The SYLVANIA ULTRA RT4 unit is a four-inch LED recessed downlight
kit creating high performing white light which is optimized for new
construction and retrofit applications. Installation is done quickly and
easily in most standard four-inch Insulated Ceiling (IC), Airtight (AT)
and non-IC housings.
The SYLVANIA ULTRA RT Series recessed downlight kits are
dimmable to 20% with standard 120V electronic low voltage
dimmers (recommended), incandescent or magnetic low voltage
dimmers. In some cases, standard incandescent dimmers require
a minimum load of typically >40 watts on the circuit for full range
dimming performance (four fixtures). For dimming with digital (smart)
multi-location dimmers or when dimming fewer than four LED kits,
Electronic Low Voltage (ELV) dimmers are required (some ELV dimmers need a neutral connection in the wallbox).

The SYLVANIA ULTRA RT Series provides good color rendering (82 CRI), and
a selection of color temperatures (2700K, 3000K). LEDs radiate virtually no
UV or heat to damage or fade furnishings, art or other objects.
Engineered optics efficiently direct light output in an 80 degree beam with
low glare.

3. What are the color temperatures and the CRI?
The ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 are offered in 2700K
and 3000K with a CRI of 82.
4. What is the expected life rating of the ULTRA RT4
and ULTRA RT6?
The average rated life for the ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6
is 35,000 hours (L70) in Insulated Ceilings (IC), Non-IC, and
Airtight**(AT) housings. LED lamp life is defined as the number of hours when 50% of an average group of identical
lamps reaches 70% of its initial lumens.
5. What finishes are available?
The ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 come with an integrated
white trim. For additional finishes please contact your
SYLVANIA sales professional.
6.Are the ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 LED downlights
dimmable?

housing. The ULTRA RT6 offers a positive fit to ensure
proper installation.

listed?
Yes, they are damp location listed and can be used in areas
that are protected from direct contact with rain (example:
shower application).
13.Are the ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 wet location
listed?
No, the ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 are not wet location
listed and cannot be used in unsheltered outdoor areas
that are exposed to direct contact with rain, etc.
14.Are the ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 ENERGY STAR®
qualified?
Yes, both the RT4 and RT6 are ENERGY STAR qualified.
15.What are the warranties on the ULTRA RT4 and

ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 LED downlights are covered

16.What is the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the
ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6?
Total Harmonic Distortion of a signal is a measurement of
the harmonic distortion present and is defined as the ratio
of the sum of the powers of all harmonic components to
the power of the fundamental frequency. The THD of the
ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 is 60% at a power factor of
0.81 and will be improved to meet <20% THD. Some
California utilities require LED systems to have a THD factor
of <20% at full light output to be eligible for utility rebates. 17.Do the ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 have external
power supplies?
The LED driver/power supply is fully integrated in the
housing for optimized lumen delivery and superior
thermal management of the LED package.

Certain Photography
ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 are compatible with most
standard 4" housings and 6" housings with torsion spring
brackets, respectively. ULTRA RT6 is not currently compatible with commercial housings (i.e. without trim brackets inside). SYLVANIA will offer an accessory to ensure compatibility. (See www.sylvania.com/RT6 or www.sylvania.com/
RT4 for specific details.)

11.Are the ULTRA RT4 and ULTRA RT6 LED downlights
IC rated for use in insulated ceilings?
Yes.

Installation Instructions
The SYLVANIA LED recessed kit ULTRA RT4 is designed to install in standard 4” insulated and
non-insulated recessed downlight housings. For a list of compatible housings, please refer to
www.SYLVANIA.com/RT4.
The ULTRA RT4 LED recessed kit can be dimmed, however updates on dimmer technology and special
conditions may apply depending on dimmer type being used. To be assured of the latest information
regarding recessed kit and dimmer compatibility, please reference www.SYLVANIA.com/RT4
to find the latest list of compatible dimmers when using multiple ULTRA RT4 recessed kits.
Note: It may be necessary to remove a socket mounting plate for adequate clearance in the compatible
housing. Each lampholder shall be installed only in its intended manner and orientation. Not all existing
recessed housings that meet these requirements will be compatible with the SYLVANIA ULTRA RT4.
To ensure compatibility, a test installation should be conducted.

How to install
Important safety information - read all instructions before installation.
WARNING
• Risk of electrical shock. Disconnect power at fuse or circuit breaker before installing or servicing.
• To prevent early lamp failure, lamp should only be installed in operating environments ranging
between 0°C and +30°C (32°F and +86°F).
• To prevent overheating do not install in totally-enclosed recessed fixtures.
• No user serviceable parts inside. To avoid electrical shock do not disassemble product.
• This product is not intended for use in emergency light fixtures or exit signs. Not for use where
exposed directly to the weather or water.
• This product contains a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or
other reproductive harm.
• Risk of fire or electrical shock. Install this kit only in the luminaires that have the construction features
and dimensions shown in the photographs and/or drawings.
• Do not make or alter any open holes in an enclosure of wiring or electrical components during
kit installation.
• To prevent wiring damage or abrasion, do not expose wiring to edges of sheet metal or other sharp objects.
CAUTION:
• Turn power off before inspection, installation or removal.
• The lamp is suitable for use in damp locations. Use only on 120 VAC, 60Hz circuits.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules and has been tested and found to comply with
the limits for a Class B digital device. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection
against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can
radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions,
may cause harmful interference to radio communications.
Step 1: Make sure the power is turned off at the source to the recessed housing(s) that you are installing
the fixture(s) in. Remove existing trim and CFL, or Incandescent bulbs.
Step 2: Screw Edison base adaptor into socket
in recessed housing.

the friction clips, guide fixture into the housing
for a tight fit.
