At The Table
In today’s first reading, Wisdom is imagined as a woman rich in poise and grace. She moves smoothly and confidently about
her temple like home. She doesn’t flutter about, nervous with worry. Wisdom sends her maidens to invite all to her open house. The
guests do not possess any particular genius or insight. They need only be a people of good will and common sense. They are summoned to leave behind foolishness and to find for themselves a place at Wisdom’s table. There they may and can eat and drink
deeply.
Today’s Gospel draws us back to the table of the Eucharist. Jesus addresses those who seek to understand his words and, sadly,
those who seek to avoid them. As people born of God, we are called and equipped to seek God’s will and act on it.

cones in the parking lot for everyone’s safety, and instruct your

Lord Jesus, you call us to the banquet table to eat the food
that will nourish us for eternal life, bringing us into communion with you, the Father; and the Holy spirit. Give us an
appetite for this food you so generously offer. May we not
turn away from it for other food that neither nourishes nor
satisfies.

“DO NOT BE AFRAID!
OPEN WIDE THE DOORS TO CHRIST!”

According to the Mobile Consumer Habits survey
conducted a couple years ago by Jumio, a
mobile credit card verification and validation
company, 12% of the respondents admitted to
using their phone in the shower, while 19% admitted to using it
in church, 55% admitted to using their smartphone while driving,
35% admitted to using it in a movie theater, and 33% admitted
to using the device during a dinner date. The use of
smartphones has become most fundamental of social encounters
and is increasingly the norm. “The presence of mobile technologies has the potential to divert individuals from face-to-face
exchanges, thereby undermining the character and depth of
these connections,” reads a disturbing study from researchers at
Virginia Tech. In order to counter this mobile phone culture, we
need to come out of our comfort zone, appreciate the presence
of other people, and have willingness to overcome what we
may lack of respect, attention, and listening. We have to appreciate the happy hour that we have with one another.
The Eucharistic Celebration
An eternity of preparation
and of thanksgiving alone suffice
to appreciate one Eucharistic Celebration
The Eucharist shapes Christians; Christians shape the Eucharist. The Eucharist shapes the Church; the Church
shapes the Eucharist.
Non-Catholic think it is strange: they ask, “If day after day
the priest does the same things at Mass, why do Catholics continue gathering together to celebrate?” What
they say is partly correct; the Eucharist Celebration is
the one sacrifice of Calvary. But it is the power of
mystery that draws people, for it is Jesus himself who
offers the sacrifice.
Some people contend that only by going to Mass when
they feel fervent are they being sincere with God.
This is not true; in fact, such people go to Mass for
their own self-satisfaction.
If you appreciate the value of the Eucharist Celebration
you will participate in it no matter how far away or
difficult it is. The greater the sacrifice involved, the
more evident is your love of God.
Today is a happy day for our parish community. We come together to celebrate the parish festival. This gathering has three
good benefits.
Fellowship. The parish festival enhances the fellowship among
parishioners and makes us who we are – a welcoming community. At Mass we are brothers and sisters in Christ. As we leave
church, we must be the same. As we gather for worship and
social encounters, we are strengthened as one body of Christ.
As Saint Paul encouraged the Hebrews, “We must consider
how to rouse one another to love and good works. We should
not stay away from our assembly, as is the custom of some, but
encourage one another.” (Heb 10:24-25)

Fun. The parish festival brings a lot of fun and reminds us that
we are so blessed. We are blessed with dedicated volunteers,
generous sponsors, great weather, wonderful entertainment,
excited rides, attractive games, good food, good laughs, and
good times! Just as we have a good time in church when we
celebrate Mass (despite we may have worries or wounds), St.
Elizabeth church would like to be a gathering where everyone
comes to have a good time. And you’ve got it!
Multicultural Treasure. The parish festival embraces “unity in
diversity” as our chosen theme “Many Faces – One Church.”
On this day, we come to discover the wonders of many cultures
at our community through the dances, foods, talents, songs, and
costumes. We don’t need to travel across the world to explore
different cultures and their richness. The world is here among
us. Meeting people from different cultures and traditions and
learning what they share will teach us that the way we look at
the world is not the way everybody does.

Kính thưa Quý Cụ, Quý Ông Bà và Anh Chị Em thân mến,
Theo một cuộc thăm dò về Thói Quen Xài Điện Thoại Di Động cách đây vài năm do công ty
tín dụng Jumio thực hiện, có 12% người được thăm dò thú nhận là họ dùng điện thoại trong lúc đi tắm, 19% dùng trong
nhà thờ, 55% dùng trong lúc lái xe, 35% dùng trong lúc xem phim, và 33% dùng trong bữa ăn với người yêu. Việc sử
dụng điện thoại trở nên một hiện tượng phổ quát trong các cuộc gặp gỡ và sinh hoạt của nhiều người. Một cuộc nghiên
cứu khác của Đại Học Virginia Tech ghi nhận, “Sự hiện diện của các phương tiện di động có khả năng phân tán con
người từ những cuộc tiếp xúc trực tiếp, và vì thế mà làm suy giảm nét đặc trưng và chiều sâu của những mối tương
quan.” Để đối phó với tình trạng văn hoá di động này, chúng ta cần phải bước ra khỏi chính mình, trân quý sự hiện
diện của người khác, và có thiện chí muốn vượt qua những gì mình có thể thiếu (tôn trọng, chú tâm, và lắng nghe).
Chúng ta phải trân quý thời gian vui vẻ chúng ta đang có với nhau.
Hôm nay thực là một ngày vui vẻ của cộng đoàn giáo xứ. Chúng ta đến với nhau để chung vui ngày Hội Chợ Giáo Xứ.
Ngày qui tụ này mang đến ba lợi ích.
Tình Bằng Hữu. Hội chợ giáo xứ làm tăng thêm tình bằng hữu giữa các giáo dân và làm cho chúng ta ở đúng chỗ dứng
của mình – đó là một cộng đoàn thân thiện. Trong Thánh Lễ chúng ta là anh chị em trong Đức Kitô. Ra khỏi nhà thờ
chúng ta cũng vẫn phải vậy. Khi chúng ta qui tụ để thờ phượng và gặp gỡ, là khi chúng ta được vững mạnh như một
nhiệm thể của Đức Kitô. Như Thánh Phaolô đã thúc đẩy các tín hữu Do Thái, “Chúng ta hãy để ý đến nhau, làm sao
cho người này thúc đẩy người kia sống yêu thương và làm những việc tốt. Chúng ta đừng bỏ các buổi hội họp, như vài
người quen làm; trái lại, phải khuyến khích nhau.” (Heb 10:24-25)
Vui Vẻ. Hội chợ giáo xứ đem đến nhiều điều vui và nhắc nhở chúng ta nhận ra là mình thật được chúc phúc. Chúng ta
được chúc phúc với nhiều tình nguyện viên nhiệt tâm, những nhà bảo trợ quảng đại, thời tiết đẹp, các chương trình giải
trí hay, các trò chơi hấp dẫn, các phần ẩm thực ngon, nhiều tiếng cười, và thời gian vui vẻ! Cũng giống như chúng ta có
thời vui vẻ trong nhà thờ khi tham dự Thánh Lễ (cho dù chúng ta có thể đang có những lo lắng hay tổn thương), thì
giáo xứ Thánh Elizabeth cũng muốn trở thành điểm qui tụ, nơi mà mọi người đến để có những giờ phút vui vẻ. Và đó
là điều anh chị em đang tận hưởng!
Di Sản Đa Văn Hoá. Hội chợ giáo xứ nâng niu tính “hiệp nhất trong đa dạng” như chính khẩu hiệu của hội chợ “Nhiều
Gương Mặt – Một Hội Thánh”. Trong ngày này, chúng ta đến để khám phá những điều thú vị của nhiều văn hoá trong

Lương thực thần linh
Mẹ Têrêxa Calcutta có một quy luật là khi một thiếu
nữ nào đến xin nhập Dòng thì ngay ngày hôm sau sẽ
được gửi tới Nhà Lâm Chung (nơi chăm sóc những người
sắp chết).
Một hôm, có một thiếu nữ đến xin nhập Dòng. Theo
thông lệ, Mẹ Têrêxa gửi chị này đến Nhà Lâm Chung.
Mẹ căn dặn: "Con đã thấy các linh mục chạm đến Mình
Thánh Chúa một cách cung kính và trìu mến thế nào. Bây
giờ con hãy đến Nhà Lâm Chung và cũng hãy làm như
thế, bởi vì Ðức Giêsu trong Mình Thánh Chúa cũng là
một với Ðức Giêsu đang ở trong những người khốn khổ
ấy".
Ba giờ sau, thiếu nữ trở về với một nụ cười rạng rỡ
trên mặt. Cô trình với Mẹ Têrêxa: "Thưa Mẹ, con đã
được chạm đến Mình Thánh Chúa suốt 3 giờ đồng hồ".
"Sao? Con đã làm gì?" Mẹ Têrêxa hỏi. Cô đáp: "Khi con
đến đấy thì người ta cũng vừa mang đến một ông bị rơi
vào một cái cống và phải nằm trong đó
một thời gian. Mình mẩy ông rất dơ
bẩn và rất nhiều thương tích. Con đã
rửa cho ông và lau các vết thương của
ông. Ðang lúc con làm thế, con biết là
con đang chạm chính Mình Thánh
Ðức Kitô".

Queridos feligreses y amigos:
Si no comen la carne del Hijo
del hombre
y no beben su sangre,
no podrán tener vida en ustedes.
Hace dos años atrás Jumio hizo una encuesta según
la Costumbre del Consumidor al Teléfono Celular, una compañía de crédito y de verificación celular, el resultado fue: 12%
de los que respondieron admitieron que usaban el teléfono en la
ducha, mientras que el 19 % lo usa en la iglesia, 55 % usan el
teléfono inteligente mientras conducen, 35% admiten usarlo en
el cine, y 33 % lo usan cuando están en una cena de pareja. El
uso de éstos teléfonos se ha hecho fundamental en los encuentros sociales y está sobrepasando las normas. “La presencia
tecnológica de estos teléfonos tiene una posibilidad de desviar a
los individuos del intercambio cara a cara, por ésto debilitan el
carácter y la profundidad de estos vínculos”, los investigadores
de Virginia Tech lo ven como un estudio alarmante. Para poder
argumentar la cultura telefónica celular, necesitamos salir de
nuestra comodidad, apreciar la presencia de las otras personas,
y tener disposición de vencer la pérdida de respeto, atención y
escuchar. Debemos apreciar la hora de alegría que compartimos el uno con el otro.

A la Mesa
En la primera lectura de hoy, la sabiduría se presenta como una mujer rica en aplomo y gracia. Se mueve fácilmente y
con confianza en torno a su templo-hogar. No anda mariposeando, nerviosa y preocupada. La sabiduría envía a sus doncellas a invitar a todos a su casa. Los invitados no tienen que
tener ningún talento o conocimiento en particular. Tan sólo
necesitan ser personas de buena voluntad y sentido común. Se
les llama a dejar atrás las tonterías y buscar para sí mismos un
lugar a la mesa de la sabiduría. Ahí pueden comer y beber a
fondo.
El Evangelio de hoy nos lleva de nuevo a la mesa de la
Eucaristía. Jesús les habla a aquellos que buscan entender sus
palabras, y, tristemente, a aquellos que tratan de evadirlas.
Como pueblo nacido de Dios, estamos llamados y preparados
para buscar la voluntad de Dios y ponerla en práctica.
Hoy día es un día de alegría para nuestra comunidad parroquial.
Nos reunimos a celebrar el festival parroquial. Esta reunión
tiene tres beneficios buenos:
Compañerismo. El festival parroquial mejora el compañerismo
entre los parroquianos y nos muestra lo que somos – una comunidad acogedora. En la Misa somos hermanos y hermanas
en Cristo. Al dejar la iglesia, debemos seguir siendo lo mismo.
Cuando nos reunimos para adorar y en reuniones sociales, somos reforzados como uno en el Cuerpo de Cristo. Así como
San Pablo alentó a los Hebreos, “Que cada uno descubra en el
ejemplo de los demás nuevos motivos de amar y de hacer el
bien. No abandonen sus asambleas cómo algunos acostumbran
hacerlo, sinó que más bien anímense unos a otros, tanto más
cuanto ven que se acerca el día” (Heb 10:24-25)

Tradiciones de Nuestra Fe
Según la creencia de los aztecas, toltecas y otros indígenas,
los niños y las niñas nacen sin rostro y corazón. Corresponde a
la familia formar en ellos y ellas el rostro (la personalidad), y el
corazón (ánimo/ motivación) durante los primeros siete años de
su vida.
Rostro y corazón son una combinación para hablar de un
tercer aspecto. En este caso rostro y corazón indican la persona
bien formada. Los judíos de la época de Jesús también usaban
ciertas palabras para indicar otras realidades. Cuerpo y sangre,
por ejemplo, indican a la persona en su totalidad. El cuerpo
muestra el carácter de la persona, mientras que la sangre indica
su ánimo o motivación.
Cuando Jesús nos invita a comer su Cuerpo y beber su
Sangre nos está invitando a tomar su rostro y corazón. Nuestra
personalidad debe ser como la suya y nuestra motivación también. De esta manera entramos en íntima comunión con él, a
quien comulgamos. En nuestro interior vamos aprendiendo a
pensar y amar como él, mientras que exteriormente vamos
aprendiendo a comportarnos como él.
Diversión: El festival parroquial tráe mucha diversión y nos
recuerda que estamos muy bendecidos. ¡Estamos bendecidos
por los voluntarios tan dedicados, por los patrocinadores tan
generosos, por el hermoso clima, por el entretenimiento tan
maravilloso, por los alborotados juegos, por la atracción de los
juegos, por la sabrosa comida, por las sonrisas, y por el maravilloso momento! Así como tenemos buen tiempo en la iglesia
cuando celebramos la Misa (a pesar de nuestras preocupaciones, o nuestras heridas), la Iglesia de Santa Elizabeth
puede ser un lugar de encuentro donde cada uno viene a disfrutar del buen momento. ¡Y ustedes lo tienen!
Tesoro Multicultural. El festival parroquial acoge “unidad en
diversidad” es nuestro tema escogido “Muchas Caras – Una
Iglesia”. En este día, venimos a descubrir las maravillas de las
muchas culturas de nuestra comunidad por medio del baile,
comida, talento, canciones, y costumbres. No necesitamos viajar a travéz del mundo para explorar las diferentes culturas y
sus riquezas. El mundo esta aquí entre nosotros. Conociendo
gente de diferentes culturas y tradiciones y aprendiendo lo que
ellos compartiran y nos enseñaran que como miramos al mundo
no es de la manera que todos ven.
