Countdown to Pope Francis arrival to the US: 38 days!
I
n keeping with the overall "struggle
theme" in Cycle B's annual readings,
this weekend, the Bible readings speak
of an internal struggle about which path to follow. In
the first reading, "Wisdom" has set up her sevencolumned house and set out her refreshments, and is
asking folk to come in and sample her
wares..........but, of course, across the street, "Lady
Folly" has set up HER house, too, and she is beckoning us to enter, and her hors d'œuvres look especially
scrumptious! Which path will we follow? It's always
a struggle. This is the theme the Letter to the Ephesians takes up, as it adjures us to avoid the path of
the dissolute and to struggle to keep on a straight
course. In the Gospel--Chapter 6 of John's Gospel-his chapter on the Eucharist--people struggle to
imagine "eating the flesh of Jesus." It sounds disgustingly unappetizing--which is a metaphor for life, isn't
it. The "true path" often isn't appetizing. The "liquor
is flowing" on the other path, and this one just looks
DRY and desolate. Yet, looks can be deceiving. Wisdom's banquet leads to meaning and purpose. And
the Eucharist leads to eternal life. A good meditation,
don't you think, as we move into vacation season?

L
vamos a seguir?

“Authentic human development has a
moral character. It presumes full respect
for the human person, but it must also be
concerned for the world around us and
'take into account the nature of each being
and of its mutual connection in an ordered
system.' Accordingly, our human ability to
transform reality must proceed in line with
God’s original gift of all that is" (5).
- Pope Francis in Laudato Si

n the Old Testament, “wisdom” refers
not simply to an intellectual attainment, but rather to a life lived in accord with God’s will for human beings. Lady wisdom depicts this sort of life. We see this also in the
letter to the Ephesians, who are exhorted to live
“not as foolish persons but as wise. How do we
live our lives today? I think we are being asked to
look at our decisions and choices in light of what
God wants for each of us. Let us ask God to give
us the strength of mind, heart and will to do what
will help us toward living “eternal life”.
vida eterna.”
Perhaps the upcoming chances to discuss the

Reflections from The Joy of the Gospel
Espacio para el Papa Francisco
Reflexiones de La Alegría del Evangelio
“This is why I want a Church which is poor and
for the poor. They have much to teach us. Not
only do they share in the sensus fidei, but in their
difficulties they know the suffering Christ. We
need to let ourselves be evangelized by them
” (198).
“The dignity of each human person and
the pursuit of the common good are
concerns which ought to shape all economic policies” (203).
St. Agatha Trivia
Did you know? The first Baptism performed in St.
Agatha was on January 6th, 1924, and the First Communion Mass was May of 1926 with 22 children.
Lines of communication
Your relationship with your child will go through several
stages, but one thing to keep as a priority is the importance of honest, open communication—both from your
kids, and from you. Your children should always know
that they can come talk to you about anything, no matter
how serious, and that you will make time to listen and
respond. Without communication, parents don’t know
important things about their kids’ lives who they talk to,
where they go, who their friends are. These parents are far
more likely to miss danger signs about potential bad influences or predators as well. For more information email:
