(Monday & Thursday 8:00 am only) 4 7:00 3:15 PASTOR'S NOTES Our Campus Security Over the past few months, I have grown concerned at the increase in incidents occurring on the grounds here at St. Francis. Such incidents include the vandalizing of the Guadalupe chapel and intoxicated persons threatening members of our parish community. As a result of these recent events, members of the pastoral staff and I have discuss options available to us with which we can keep our campus safe. The input I received from the staff was very helpful. We have begun to move forward with some ideas and I want to share them with you. First and foremost, because we are currently unable to hire 24 hour security to protect our campus, we have begun to set up our own “neighborhood watch” or as I like to call it, a “parish watch” program. The purpose of this “parish watch” is to have volunteers come on campus during certain peak hours of the day to walk around campus as a watchful presence and to ensure that anyone who should not be on campus is asked to leave. This includes addressing people who are under the influence or soliciting money from our parishioners. These volunteers will wear a vest or shirt to make them identifiable to our parishioners, and will have two-way radios to communicate with other volunteers who on campus. The hope is that the presence of our “parish watch” will deter potential issues and keep our campus safe for all who come to work, pray, attend a meeting, a class, or to receive a service. In addition to our “parish watch”, I have asked all staff to continue wearing their badges regularly when on campus, especially during school hours. We are also working to ensure that all gates and access to campus are secured through out the day. Finally, if you have some time and would like to be part of our “parish watch” program, please contact the parish office for information on how to become a member. I believe that if we work together as a community, we can continue to make our campus safe for all. ~Fr. Efrain Together in the Work of the Lord: Accomplishing far more than all we ask or imagine cf. Divine Mercy Prayer Group Please join us at 3:00 pm every first & third Sundays in front of the Divine Mercy Statue for a Bilingual Holy Hour of Prayer. We will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Seven Sorrows Rosary for an increase of vocations to the Priesthood and Religious life. SHARING OUR BREAD Within our community in Vista, there are a lot of families that are in need of “their daily bread” We have boxes outside the church, by the entrance of Father Ullman and Saint Claire Hall, and they are available to receive “the bread and the food” that we would like to share with our brethren that are in need. Please bring canned goods and other non-perishables to share with our needy brothers and sisters. They are in desperate need of our help. We invite you to join us for A Night of Prayer and Recollection on September 26, 2013 at 7:00 PM at St. Francis Church followed by fellowship in Fr. Ullman Hall. Hosting the evening will be John and Kelly Telles reflecting on Faith and Family (God always provides). Are all religions the same? That seems to be the message our culture and our well-meaning friends and family members tell us, but is it true? The Legion of Mary at St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish invites you to our first “Patrician Talk” for a discussion, presentation, and refreshments on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held in the Guadalupe Room near the corner of Pier View and Freeman, across the street from the Oceanside Public Library. Please come join us. Many people who have suffered this loss feel left out by their church, uneasy around married friends, unsure of themselves and uncertain about their futures. This program is intended for those suffering the loss of a love relationship through death, divorce or separation who are ready to come to terms with that loss and begin to move forward with their lives. The structure of this weekend program helps grieving persons focus on their experience and emerge from the darkness of grief into the light of a new beginning. The program helps deal with the natural grief process and offers an opportunity, through God, for turning the pain of loss into an experience of positive growth. Founded by a Catholic nun and rooted in the Christian tradition, the ministry's open, inclusive spirit serves those of all faiths. The next weekend will be: Nov., 8-10, 2013 at Prince of Peace Abbey, Oceanside. 211 - San Diego Resource Information Dial –211 OR from some cell phones (858) 300-1211 RESOURCEs FREE, CONFIDENTIAL, MULTILINGUAL SOURCE OF NON-PROFIT SERVICES OR AGENCIES THROUGHOUT SAN DIEGO Oceanside Pregnancy Resource Center………...…(800) 395-4357 Birth Choice…………………………..………..….(760) 744-1313 Retrouville……………………………………........(951) 259-9474 Retrouvaille Español……………………………....(951) 259-9474 Catholic Charities, Thrift Store -Vista……….…....(760) 631-2819 Catholic Charities, Emergency Services…….….....(760) 631-4792 North County Lifeline……………………………..(760) 726-4900 St. Vincent de Paul………………………….……..(760) 407-8900 Prayer Line……………………………………..…..(760) 419-9869 Rachel’s Hope……………………………….…... ..(858) 581-3022 Interfaith Community Services Coastal…….…..….(760) 721-2117 Brother Bennos’ Kitchen……………………......…(760) 439-1244 Women’s Resource Center……………….………...(760) 757-3500 Catholic Charities Immigration………….……...….(760) 631-5890 San Diego Housing Federation………………….….(619) 239-6693 Employment Services……………….………...…...(760) 929-8121 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time ALTAR SERVER TRAINING Being called to serve God as an Altar Server is both a privilege and an important responsibility All those who are in 4th grade and older (including adults), who have already been baptized in the Church and have received their First Holy Communion, are eligible to register to be trained as new Altar Servers.
