What is Proper? When participating at Holy Mass or other services when it is customary to kneel, if no kneelers are provided, then it is proper to remain standing at those parts. This is the case in St. Joseph Chapel. Of course, if kneeling or standing for long periods is medically difficult anywhere, then remain seated. These body positions are signs of respect: sitting and listening attentively to the reading of the Word of God, standing for the proclamation of the Gospel, kneeling in the presence of the Holy Eucharist, genuflecting before the Tabernacle when entering or leaving the Church, making the sign of the Cross when arriving in Church, properly positioning your clean hands for the reception of Holy Communion, physically preparing our whole body for the reception of Holy Communion by fasting for one hour before coming to Mass, (this includes no gum, mints, candies, coffee, etc.), even showing respect by how we dress for Mass. The celebration of Holy Mass is God's gift to us to strengthen and nourish us in our daily life. We show our appreciation for this gift by preparing for it, respecting it, and knowing what all of it means. Msgr. You certainly can be comfortable and respectful at the same time. The church is the House of God. He is physically present here. A little bit of extra respect for the sacredness of the church goes a long way in teaching what we believe by our actions. Remember, comfortable but respectful. If you are interested in joining these volunteers, please contact Josephine Sarcona at 718-331-0936. This is the way of the Holy Spirit, this is the work of the Holy Spirit. For it is he who moves the waters, who stirs a little disorder, who seems to throw us into a storm, to torment — think of Pentecost — and then he brings harmony, unity: he has these two characteristics. Indeed, the Spirit is what brings newness, moves situations forward, creates new spaces, brings the wisdom that Jesus promised: ‘He will teach you’. The Spirit, therefore, moves but in the end creates harmony among all people. Lord Jesus, who is always present among us, send always the Holy Spirit among us, to each one of us; send Him to the Church and enable the Church to be faithful to the movement of the Holy Spirit.
