The Braves home opener kicks off April 4 against
the Nationals, marking the start of the 2016
season and the team’s last year at Turner Field.
Connect with the Braves Shuttle at the West End
MARTA station starting 90 minutes before each
home game and return to the station via the
shuttle throughout the game until one hour after
the final out. Other commute options include a
25-minute walk or 12-minute bike ride from the
Georgia State MARTA station on the blue/green
line. Starting in 2017, the Braves will play at the
new SunTrust Park near Cumberland Mall.
MARTA Questions Answered
Q: How can I get reduced MARTA fare?
A: Some Atlanta employers, universities and
schools provide discounted MARTA passes.
In addition, individuals 65 or older, people with
mental or physical disabilities or those with a
Medicare card qualify for a reduced fare card.
Cards must be picked up in person at the Five
Points station or MARTA headquarters next to

Q: What are the rules for eating and drinking
on MARTA?
A: While state law allows eating and drinking in rail
stations, the consumption of food on MARTA
trains and buses is still prohibited. While on
trains and buses, customers are permitted
to bring food in closed containers and drink

EVENTS AROUND TOWN
BUCKHEAD STATION
The Buckhead MARTA station is in the middle
of the Buckhead business district near hotels,
housing, office buildings, retail stores, Lenox
Square Mall and Phipps Plaza. The recently
added Tower Place station exit shortens the
walk to the AMC Dine-In Theatre, Atlanta
Tech Village and stores including Old Navy,
DSW and Bed, Bath and Beyond. For more
destinations, connect with bus 110 at the first
Peachtree Road exit for a five-minute ride to
the Buckhead Village, Buckhead Theatre and
the Atlanta History Center.

MARTA to Festivals
Atlanta unofficially begins its festival season each
year in April with the historic Dogwood Festival.
Celebrating 80 years this month, the free festival
includes music, art and the Disc Dog Southern
Nationals. The Sweetwater 420 Fest with three
days of music and the Inman Park Festival with its
infamous parade are also this month, providing
plenty of opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy
the spring weather.
With many of Atlanta’s festivals now requiring alternative commutes due to limited public parking,
see these tips for improving your MARTA ride.
Purchase Fare Early
Lines sometimes form at Breeze Card machines
before festivals, concerts and sporting events. To
save time, load fare online (is.breezecard.com/
marta/) if you already have a Breeze Card or stop
by any MARTA station in advance of a festival
weekend to purchase fare. Don’t forget to add
at least two trips to cover your return commute.
Use Free Station Parking
Many MARTA stations have free daily parking
(view the list on http://www.itsmarta.com/parking-information.aspx), which provide easy options for riding the train to events around the city.
The Lindbergh Center Station is a great choice for
many intown festivals due to its central location
and three parking decks. Both red and gold line
trains stop at this station and commute time to
Midtown (near the Dogwood Festival) is less than
10 minutes.
Know The Train Schedules
MARTA’s On the Go app for iPhone and Android
includes rail and bus schedules as well as realtime arrivals so you can know exactly when you
need to be back at a station. Keep in mind that
trains run every 20 minutes on weekends and
evenings, so it is helpful to plan ahead to avoid a
long wait on the train platform.
Bicycles on MARTA
MARTA is proud to be one of the few transit systems in the United States to offer unrestricted
bicycle access on trains. Using MARTA in conjunction with a bicycle helps patrons to commute
safely and efficiently. Cyclists are encouraged to
be mindful of other patrons when on MARTA,
including:
•Not boarding trains that are full
•Keeping bicycles out of the aisle
and away
from the train door
•Using elevators, not escalators, when taking
bicycles in and out of rail stations
•Storing bicycles on racks on front of buses, not
inside. Each bus can only handle two bicycles
at one time, first come, first served.

Appoints
MARTA General Manager/CEO
to National Infrastructure
Advisory Council
President Barack Obama has announced his
intent to appoint MARTA General Manager/
CEO, Keith T. Parker, AICP, to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC).
The council provides the president–through the
Secretary of Homeland Security–with advice on
the security of the critical infrastructure sectors
and their information systems. The council has
a maximum of 30 members, appointed by the
president from private industry, academia and
state and local government.
“I am deeply humbled to have been asked to
serve our country in this capacity ,”GM/CEO
Keith Parker said. “I look forward to working
with the other members of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council and the Secretary of

El juego inaugural en casa de los Atlanta Braves

con los Atlanta Braves inicia sus viajes desde
la estación West End de MARTA 90 minutos

de MARTA, Keith T. Parker, AICP, para el Consejo Consultivo para la Infraestructura Nacional
(NIAC, por sus siglas en inglés).
El consejo asesora al presidente (a través del
secretario de Seguridad Nacional) sobre la
seguridad de los sectores cruciales de la infraestructura y sus sistemas de información.
El consejo tiene un máximo de 30 miembros,
designados por el presidente y provenientes de
la industria privada, la academia y los gobiernos estatales y locales.

gerente general y CEO Keith Parker. «Espero

BICICLETAS EN MARTA
MARTA se enorgullece de ser uno de los pocos sistemas de transporte en Estados Unidos que permite el acceso sin restricciones de bicicletas en los
trenes. Usar MARTA junto con una bicicleta ayuda
a nuestros pasajeros a transportarse de manera segura y eficiente. Recomendamos a los ciclistas ser
cuidadosos con los demás pasajeros cuando usen
los servicios de MARTA. Esto incluye:
•No embarcarse en trenes que estén llenos.
•Mantener las bicicletas fuera del pasillo y lejos
•
de la puerta del tren.
Usar los ascensores, no las escaleras mecánicas, cuando entren y salgan de las estaciones
de metro.
Poner las bicicletas en los soportes de la parte
delantera de los autobuses, no dentro de ellos.
Cada autobús sólo puede llevar dos bicicletas al
