CORPUS CHRISTI BOOK CLUB NEWS
The Club met on Monday, September 14. Group
leader Veronica Hollingsworth presided. Book of
the Month was “Tattoos on the Heart” by Fr. Gregory Boyle SJ, recommended by Carol Slawson. Carol also donated copies of the book to members of the Club.
“Tattoos on the Heart” is more than a book for discussion; it is a
book for meditation. Our discussion, in fact, was a reflection, a
heart-wrenching experience that left tattoos on our own
hearts. “Tattoos on the Heart” is the story of Jesuit Father Greg
Boyle who founded ‘Homeboy Industries’ in Down Town Los
Angeles, where ‘homies’(former gang members) demonized
and shunned by society, are welcomed, provided jobs and assured of their worth as human beings. Written in typical Boyle
style with anecdotal humor and much love and compassion, the
essays are at once uplifting and deeply moving. The Jesuit Father Boyle, like the Jesuit Pope Francis, is an image of the
Good Shepherd who goes after the ‘Lost Sheep.’
The October meeting is set for Monday, Oct. 12, 1:30 PM at the
Parish Hall. Book selection for the month is “The True American
– Murder and Mystery in Texas,” by Anand Giridhardas.

Corpus Christi Catholic School is
blessed to have an onsite conservation
site. Teachers are able to present integrated lessons in the science, math, writing, art and religion
subject areas. Students and teachers alike enjoy the outdoor
classroom and take full advantage of it! The second graders
experienced the fall like weather as they collaborated on a
writing assignment.

EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT SEEKS SUPPORT! My name is Aaron Goodman, I am a
graduate of Corpus Christi School and my family is a member of the parish. In the spirit of
Saint Francis my Eagle Scout project is to make
elevated dog beds for a local no kill animal
shelter. My intention is to give dogs a comfortable bed for them
to lay on while they wait for their forever home.
I am asking for your help with donations for the shelter of dog
food, gently used blankets, towels or toys. These items will be
collected at the pet blessing this Sunday at 4:00 pm. If you are
unable to attend, there will be a box in the parish office until
October 12th, so feel free to drop off items. I will be at the pet
blessing to help Fr. Tom and would appreciate your support.
Thank you,
Aaron Goodman
