Michael Shanahan, our Pastor Del Padre Michael Shanahan, nuestro Párroco There is a good reason to name our campaign as Living Stewardship Now. Stewardship is not simply a fancy way to raise money. Stewardship is a way of thinking and living. With Stewardship we take personal inventory of the gifts that God has given us. There are many ways to do that but one good way of doing this would be to make a list of ten things you are grateful for, and post it in a visible place in your home. This simple exercise brings instant hope and joy to your life, especially when we find ourselves only focusing on what is wrong with the world. There is also plenty that is right with the world. This is God’s grace among us. I myself am grateful for the encouragement that we find here in the parish every day. Tonight, we celebrate our 12th Annual Joy and Celebration Dinner Dance. Parishioners have given immense amounts of time and energy to make this a successful event. Of course, it is our primary fund raiser of the year, but there is more to it than that. We believe we are about God’s Mission in the world today. You have donated, sponsored others, placed advertisements in our Dinner Dance Ad Book and you will celebrate this evening. These are all signs of God’s work alive among us. May God’s abundant blessings be upon everyone in your generosity in this and many events throughout the year here, at the parish. Jesus tells us we are the Light of the World. I am grateful for the Light of Christ among us. When we choose to be grateful, it become natural to share with those around us and take part in the Mission that God has given us. Our parish mission is to Seek Unity. Celebrate Diversity by Praying, Caring and Sharing. Our goal is to reach out and serve as the unified Body of Christ. This is our destination and it is the way in which we work together. Please take a look at the list of all the groups who have contributed to the Living Stewardship Now Campaign in this past year. This list can be found on page five of today’s bulletin. It is a testimony to our Mission being lived out. What an awesome gift we have in our generous, hard working parishioners! Thank you for an entire year of ministry shown below here. God bless you! God bless them and our people who come to the Soup Kitchen! From the Soup Kitchen Team Volunteer opportunities! Do you know how to wash dishes...? Open cans…? Put food on a plate…? Serve juice…? Sweep the floor? No special skills are required to help feed the homeless and working poor. We serve an average of 200 hundred people every Wednesday. Preparation begins at 3:30 p.m.; and we serve from 5:30– 6:30 p.m. and clean up, which is usually finished by 8:00 p.m.—if we have enough help! Many people ask us if they can help in another way. In your package of envelopes there is a blue envelope marked “Soup Kitchen Support”, please use it and give as much as you can. Change goes a long way to people who have nothing, especially in these days of a hard economy.
