The Most Holy Trinity: May 22, 2016 “Before anything was created, the wisdom of God was brought forth” -Proverbs 8:22 Reflection INCOMPLETE ANSWERS Today’s reading from Proverbs describes the power of beginnings, when what is most beautiful and central in our relationship to God is a hope in our minds and the mind of God. When there was nothing but our relationship, there was still power enough to generate an entire world, a heaven and an earth. The psalm that we sing today tells about the power of possibility and responsibility. We are responsible to safeguard what has been created through our relationship. The Letter to the Romans reminds us that we are not alone in this relationship. We endure what seems unendurable because of the hope and grace that are part of our relationship with our Savior and the Holy Spirit. Finally, John emphasizes that not even death itself will end our relationship with the One whom we love and who loves us. Our relationship with God—Creator, Savior, and Holy Spirit—is one in which all is possible, all is given, and all is lived fully. This is the Holy Trinity. News Dia De Los Niños—Kid’s Day! Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship - Part I The U.S. Bishops’ Reflection on Catholic Teaching and Political Life Our redemption has a social dimension because "God, in Christ, redeems not only the individual person, but also . . . social relations." To believe that the Holy Spirit is at work in everyone means realizing that he seeks to penetrate every human situation and all social bonds. . . . Accepting the first proclamation, which invites us to receive God's love and to love him in return with the very love which is his gift, brings forth in our (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, no. 178) lives and actions a primary and fundamental response: to desire, seek and protect the good of others. PART III …..Continued from last week. 8. During election years, there may be many handouts and voter guides that are produced and distributed. We encourage Catholics to seek those resources authorized by their own bishops, their state Catholic conferences, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. This statement is intended to reflect and complement, not substitute for, the ongoing teaching of bishops in our own dioceses and states. When using this document, it is important to remember that Church teaching is coherent and rests on a comprehensive vision of the dignity of the human person, a dignity that St. John Paul II described as "manifested in all its radiance when the person's origin and destiny are considered: created by God in his image and likeness as well as redeemed by the most precious blood of Christ, the person is called to be a 'child in the Son' and a living temple of the Spirit, destined for the eternal life of blessed communion with God'" (Christifideles Laici, no. 37). Thus, the particular judgments of the document may fall at various points along the political spectrum, but the foundational principles that guide these teachings should not be ignored in any case nor used selectively in order to serve partisan interests. In light of these reflections and those of local bishops, we encourage Catholics throughout the United States to be active in the political process, particularly in these challenging times.
