Stewardship of Treasure Actual Week Ending 8/9 Week Ending 8/16 Week Ending 8/23 Total Actual Budgeted Dear Friends of Holy Spirit, Six months ago 18 people arrived at a meeting to discuss how we could support those people in our community who needed the most help. Each person talked about their passion and interest, resulting in four primary focuses: the unborn, at-risk teenagers, the homeless and the elderly. A sub-committee was formed for each group and activities have been developed. You may have noticed the Protection of the Unborn booth at the festival this year. Located just inside the school door, the display included an amazing video on the development of the child in the womb, from embryo to 40-week baby. The process of life is so profound and speaks to the power and life of God at work. The booth also had many items to view and take with you. At first, it seemed like an odd location (next the gym), but this proved to work out very well. Another sub-committee is working with the elderly. This year we are planning to get our grade school (junior high) students involved with visiting one of our healthcare facilities. So many people in such facilities receive few, if any, visitors. So many youth (and adults) are uncomfortable with these facilities. Hopefully, through this program, both the students and the elderly will be blessed and see each other as human beings, deserving of love and care. Other things are being planned by the sub-committees (e.g. the cookie drive for the homeless). If this work interests you, give me a call. We would love to have more participation. New Bible Stud The next Bible studies begin the week of Sep. 14th. They will be offered three times: Monday evenings beginning on Sept. 14, from 7 to 9pm Thursday afternoons beginning Sept. 17, from 12:30 to 2pm Thursday evenings beginning Sept. 17, from 7 to 9pm All three sessions will be a 10 week study on the book of James. Please join us at any of these sessions as we study the book of James. James is one of the most practical books of the Bible. Like the book of Proverbs, it is a book of wisdom, a collection of teachings on issues faced by ordinary Christians in everyday life. These teachings speak loudly to all those who feel torn between the competing demands of this world and their faith. The study offers "pearls of wise living" by applying the wisdom of James to the present day. For anyone who has struggled to live a truly Christian life, James offers a wealth of practical solutions for handling and even sanctifying everyday circumstances. 22ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Holy Spirit School Mary Kate Shanahan, Youth Director Founded in Faith, Faithful in Spirit [email protected] Rite of Confirmation: September 8 • Arrival Time: The Confirmation Liturgy will begin promptly at 7:00 pm, however ALL candidates and sponsors must arrive absolutely no later than 6:15 pm to Sts.
