From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In the Novus Ordo Masses we are now concluding
the Christmas Season but in the Traditional Liturgy
we continue with the Christmas Season until February 2nd, the Feast of the Presentation and Purification of Mary. Most of us, however, will have put
away our Christmas trees and taken down our
decorations. In the Novus Ordo Masses we go to
wearing green vestments to signify that we are in
the Ordinary Time of the year. I have been trying
to do some planning for the months ahead because
Lent comes early this year and thus Easter will be
here before we know it. On top of that we have
several big celebrations to prepare for in the coming months. The first one is the celebration of the
Day of St. Toribio’s martyrdom which falls on
Thursday, February 25th. On that day we are planning to bless the new chapel and come together as
a community to enjoy an evening of good food and
music. The second celebration besides all the Holy
Week and Easter celebrations will be the Feast of
St. Toribio Romo and his fellow martyrs to be celebrated on May 21st. This year since it is the Jubilee
Year of Mercy it will be special since the Bishop
has asked for a Mass to be celebrated for immigrants. We are planning that celebration already.
And finally the last weekend of May, Memorial
Day weekend, we will have our annual St. Toribio
Romo procession and Mass and Carnival. The next
six months will be very busy with the major Feast
Days of the church, with First Communions, Confirmations, and other celebrations as well as these
extra celebrations.
Because of the money we are receiving back from
the Diocese through our participation in the last
major fund drive that was conducted a year or so
ago we now have nearly $11,000.00 that is earmarked for restoration of the large stained glass
window in the Church. I promised the community
as we started that campaign that we would use the
January 10, 2016
money that we received back to help restore that
window. I am hoping that that work will begin
soon. I will try to keep you informed. We have
been doing a lot of work around the parish over the
past year and we are happy to have a recently renovated convent, a new chapel of St. Toribio, newly
painted buildings, and lots of other projects that
have been completed. I realize that many improvements are hardly noticed by the majority of our
parish, but nonetheless they are necessary so that
we can keep our parish in good condition. We hope
to do some additional renovations in the Church
and small chapel over the next year as well as begin planning an outside shelter area near the front
entrance to the church. These projects will gradually take place as we plan and seek the necessary
funding. You have been very patient with all the
construction and work that has been done and have
not complained about being inconvenienced. I am
grateful to you for your patience and for your support. It is a great pleasure working here with you.
I hope as this New Year unfolds we will grow
closer as a community. Indeed that has been my
constant wish.
God bless each of you and please keep me in your
prayers.
Sincerely yours,
Father Timothy Davison

From the Bishop
On Sunday, January 3rd,
Bishop Slattery read the following
message at the 10:00 am Mass:
As you may have noticed in the
latest issue of the diocesan magazine,
the Eastern Oklahoma Catholic, I am celebrating
Mass on Sunday, January 3, 2016 for any and all
victims of child sexual abuse and their families.
May God in His infinite mercy remove this terrible
evil from our church and our society.
For my part, I wish to apologize for and acknowledge any failure on my part to protect our
young people. I promise to do everything in my
power to do so in the future. Please consider this
statement as my pledge to you to make sure that
the mistakes of the past are never repeated. Please
pray for me, for our priests and deacons, for all
parents, and for their children. May this Year of
Mercy be a time of deep conversion to Jesus
Christ for all of us.
I encourage any family member, friend, or
neighbor to come forward and let me know if he or
she has ever been sexually abused as a minor by a
priest, deacon, employee , or anyone. We are here
to pray for them and minister to them.

Reconciliation: God is Rich in Mercy
An Examination of Conscience
As Socrates stated, “The unexamined life is
not worth living.” Examining your conscience provides an opportunity to recognize sin and seek
God’s grace.
How do you train your conscience? God’s
Word has provided us with the Ten Commandments for examining our consciences, as well as
the Sermon on the Mount (see Mt 5-7)., The Duties
of Christians ( Rom 12-15), and St. Pauls’ Hymn to
Love (1 Cor 13).
Using the Ten Commandments to
Examine Your Conscience
1. You shall worship the Lord your
God and him only shall you serve.
You will love and worship God when
you realize how much God loves you.
“The love of God has been poured out
into our hearts through the Holy spirit that has been
given to us” (Rom 5:5). St. Therese of Lisieux said
that from heaven she would teach us to love Love,
which is God. What or who do you love most? Is
there a false god in your life?
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord
your God in vain.
You shall respect God’s holy name. Our culture is
filled with cursing, vulgar speech and irreverence
for the name of God and Jesus. Some even use
God’s name to justify violence and anger. How do
you speak of God? Listen and practice Christ’s
prayer, “Hallowed be the name.”

Del Párroco:
Queridos hermanos y hermanas,
Toribio.
