FOLLOW ME—FISH FOR PEOPLE
Peter the fisherman—and
fisher of people—is put to
a strange and difficult test
today. First, the Lord
Jesus directs him and the
others how and where to
fish. They succeed
greatly—a Messiah catch
for Messiah nourishment.
Then Simon Peter is asked
three times “Do you love me?” He answers
wholeheartedly, and Jesus says, “Follow me!” We, too,
seek Messiah nourishment in the Messiah Eucharist. With
Peter, can we answer wholeheartedly to the “Follow me,”
“Fish for people” of Christ Jesus? Text, Philip J. Sandstrom, STD

veces: “¿Me amas?” Pedro contesta con todo su corazón
que sí. Entonces, Jesús le dice: “Sígueme”. Nosotros
también buscamos el alimento mesiánico en la Eucaristía.
Con Pedro, escuchamos la invitación de Jesús: “Sígueme;
serás pescador de pueblos”. ¿Podemos contestar con todo
el corazón? Texto: Philip J. Sandstrom, STD © 2000, OCP. Derechos

DAUGHTERS OF DIVINE ZEAL – MISSION APPEAL
The weekend of April 23-24 Sr. Mary Lilly, a native of
India and a member of the Daughters of Divine Zeal
will be here for the Mission Appeal. The “Daughters of
Divine Zeal” is an international religious congregation
founded by St. Hannibal Di Francia in 1887. Their spirituality
is founded on the command of Jesus to “Pray the Lord of the
Harvest to send workers into his harvest.” (Mt. 9: 37-38; Lk.
10:2). The sisters’ ministries include: parish and missionary
works, evangelization, social work for human and Christian
advancement – schools, homes for the elderly, nutrition
centers and clinics. Some sisters are presently working at the
St. Salle School in Reedley, CA. Sr. Mary Lilly will be speaking
at all the Masses on Saturday and Sunday. The proceeds
from this appeal will benefit the formation of Novices and
young sisters, and orphaned children in our mission in India.
The Daughters of Divine Zeal sisters will remember you and
your family in prayer. May God bless you all for your
generosity!

Christian Symbols 101
We see these images in stained glass windows,
websites and other religious literatures. But where
did they come from and what do they mean? Here is
some background…
Símbolos Cristianos 101
Podemos ver estás imágenes en ventanas de cristal,
sitios web, y otras literatures religiosas. ¿Pero de dónde
provienen y qué significan? Aquí hay algunos
antecedents...
Ichthus: The Gospels took place around the Sea of
Galilee, so fishing images resonated deeply with
early Christians. According to St. Augustine, by the
fourth century the Greek letters for this word were
used as an symbol for “Jesus Christ, Son of God,
Savior”. Tradition says that firstcentury Christians undergoing
persecution used the ichthus as a
way to communicate where
meetings would be held.
primer siglo sometidos a
persecusión utilizaban el ichthus
como forma de comunicación donde
se celebrabán reuniones.
