Los almonteños ni han cesado ni cesan actualmente de embellecer las calles y plazas de su localidad recordando, con
monumentos, de qué se sienten más orgullosos.
People from Almonte have never stopped embellishing the
streets and plazas of their town, remembering with monuments those things or people they are most proud of.
Uno de los más hermosos es el monumento “A las Yeguas”,
que representa la Saca de Yeguas que se celebra desde la
Edad Media durante el último fin de semana del mes de
junio. Realizado en bronce, representa al yegüerizo y a la
yegua con su potrilla en su camino desde Doñana hasta
Almonte.
One of the most beautiful ones is the monument ‘to the
mares’, in which the Saca de las Yeguas (Round up of the
mares), celebrated from the Middle Age during the last
weekend of June is represented. Made in bronze, it represents the horsemen and the mare with its filly on their way
from Donana to Almonte.
El monumento a la Aparición de la Virgen es uno de los
más queridos por los almonteños. Representa a la Virgen
del Rocío vestida de Pastora sobre un tronco de árbol. A sus
pies un cazador arrodillado, tal y como la leyenda cuenta
que fue la aparición de la Virgen.
The monument to the Apparition of the Virgin is one of the
most beloved by the people from Almonte. It represents the
Virgin of El Rocio on a log, dressed up with shepherdess
costume. At her feet there is a hunter down to his knees,
exactly as the legend describes the apparition of the Virgin.
The monument to the Virgin herself is in the Virgen del Rocio plaza, in front of the Church of Assumption. Dressed up
with the shepherdess costume, as she only does when she’s
being moved. It reminds that this is the place in the town
where she is kept every seven years.
En la plaza Virgen del Rocío se encuentra el monumento
dedicado a la misma Virgen, frente a la Iglesia de la Asunción. Vestida de Pastora, como solamente lo hace durante
el traslado, recuerda que es aquí donde se la guarda en el
pueblo cada siete años.
Y otro ejemplo es el monumento a los Héroes de Baler,
dedicado a José Jiménez Berro, quien resistió junto con sus
compañeros durante 336 días en la iglesia del Baler (Filipinas), rindiéndose en junio de 1899, tiempo después de
firmarse la paz con Estados Unidos.
Another example is the monument to Heroes of Baler, dedicated to Jose Jimenez Berro, who lived with his mates in
the Church of Baler (The Philipines) during 336 days. He
surrendered in June 1899, time after signing a peace treaty
with USA.
