The Catechism of the Catholic Church
and the prayers of this Mass teach us that
the Blessed Virgin Mary was preserved
free of sin. After her death, she was
taken up, body and soul, into heaven.
This act of divine favor allows Mary to
participate in her Son's Resurrection. In her glory, she
gives us cause to hope that we, too, can one day come
to share in Christ's Resurrection.
In the next week or two, we are going to be repairing the asphalt. Both the school side and from the side
near the Parish house. This is a big project, whose costs
will be covered by the Capital Appeal. First, we will begin repairing the parking lot on the West side, near the
school, because the new school year will begin shortly.
Afterwards, we will repair the larger lot. We apologize
for any inconvenience the repairs may cause for all of
you.
The Catechism says that Mary's Assumption was a
singular participation in her Son's Resurrection and an
anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians
(CCC966). This teaching is also found in today's opening
prayer for Mass, along with our petition to God that we
might one day come to share in her glory. The preface for
today's Mass re-states this theme and reminds us that
Mary's Assumption is a sign of hope and comfort for
God's people. The preface also says that God would not
allow decay to touch Mary's body, for she had given birth
to his Son.
******************
We might wonder how today's Scripture readings
relate to the Assumption, since none of them refers to
Mary being taken up bodily into heaven. But we come to
know the Blessed Mother better through today's gospel
reading, which is the account of Mary's visitation to
Elizabeth. We can imagine Mary arriving at the house of
Zechariah. The scene is one of intimacy between two very
holy women. There is Elizabeth, who was favored by
God to conceive in her old age; and the young Mary,
who believed in the greatness of God and was chosen to
bear his Son.
The Gospel does not tell us what Mary said in her
greeting to Elizabeth, but we are told Elizabeth's words.
How does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord,
should come to me? Her words invite us to examine the
importance our Blessed Mother can play in our spiritual lives. Mary's life gives us an unequaled example of
what it means to live in humility and in perfect obedience to the will of God.
Today, let us be especially mindful of Mary's desire, that
we might one day come to share eternal life in heaven
with her and with the rest of the angels and Saints. Let
us strive to follow her example and love God with our
whole being, serving him by pouring ourselves out in
humble love and service to others. Let us also seek to
grow in our devotion to our Blessed Mother, for her
prayers help us to live more fully and faithfully as disciples of her Son.
“O Mary, Assumed into heaven, pray for us, your children, who are fighting the attacks of sin”.
Also, during this time, we will be putting in a new
telephone system – in the school, church, and parish
house. The new system will allow for much improved
communication between all of us. The cost of the new
phone system will be covered by the Capital Appeal.
******************
During the changing of the phone system, we have
been painting certain rooms in the Parish House. Some of
you may have already noticed these changes. We are trying to get many tasks done at the same time to avoid making a bigger mess than necessary. We hope you all will
enjoy and appreciate these changes.

#759 Catholic Community Hymnal
Take notice that if souls do not find themselves quite resolved to pardon any injury
or affront which may be inflicted upon
them, they cannot trust much to their
prayer. For the soul which God truly
unites to Himself by so lofty a method of
prayer, feels none of these things, and no
longer cares whether she is esteemed or
not, or whether she is spoke well of or ill;
nay rather honors and repose give her
more pain than dishonor and trials.

We are grateful to all who give regularly of

Bless you!

placer? Dios. Dios ideó la diversión que hay
e n
l a
v i d a .
D i o s
t e

y dijo: “Muy bien, Dios.
buena cosecha”. Subrayen la palabra “retienen”. No solamente
Te va a distraer, te hará
mismo resultados, si haces cosas diferentes tendrás resultados
diferentes!
