FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Parish,
In the Gospel today, Mary and
Martha represent two ways of showing
hospitality. Martha shows her
friendship by preparing and serving
food and drink for Jesus and his
disciples. Mary demonstrates another
form of hospitality by sitting at Jesus’
feet, being attentive to his word. While
both forms of hospitality are important,
Jesus values Mary’s attentiveness to
his teaching more than Martha’s
preparation of the table.
Jesus says, “Martha, Martha, you
are anxious and worried about many things; there is need for only
one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken
from her.” (Luke 10:41b-42) The message of the Gospel has to do
with how we receive Jesus, and how we receive others. More
important than the food and drink is the attention we pay to the
guest. To really receive God in our lives is to listen to his word like
Mary, and to allow our faith to show itself in acts of charity,
generosity, and compassion.
May the Holy Spirit give us a generous heart, that we might
show spirit hospitality, and so find the presence of God in others.
God’s Blessings,
Fr. Jim Schuerman
Padre Jim Schuerman

DEAR PARISHIONERS,
BIG CASH RAFFLE
Due to donations being behind budget combined
with higher than budgeted costs for parish maintenance
and healthcare, our parish is facing a budget deficit of
approximately $50,000. HERE’S HOW YOU CAN
HELP:
1) Consider a “catch up” donation if you’ve been
away or missed some Sundays (mark your donation
“catch up”) and
2) Sign up for electronic weekly or monthly giving
through our website or at the parish office. Your
consistent support is extremely helpful in maintaining a
healthy cash flow.
It’s always a challenge to create a balanced budget
with so many variables in a parish such as ours. Please
consider helping today to strengthen St. Francis de
Sales to assure a bright future!
Our Fall Festival will be here
before we know it. The Cash Raffle
is one of the biggest fund raiser of the
year. Raffle tickets are available at all
entrances of the church. Please take
some tickets and sell to your family, friends and coworkers.
Volunteers are needed to help sell raffle tickets.
Starting the weekend of July 4, we will be selling BIG
CASH RAFFLE TICKETS at all weekend Masses until
the Fall Festival. PLEASE consider giving a little bit of
your time to help out. Sign up in chapel entrance.
Blessings,
Fr. Jim Schuerman
