WE LONG TO SEE GOD’S FACE
“Lord, this is the people that longs to see
your face.” This antiphon for today’s
responsorial psalm offers the focus for
today’s readings. As we on earth celebrate
the triumph of all the saints—the ones
officially canonized by the Church, and the
countless others who have also reached
heaven—we add nothing to their glory. But
we give ourselves reason to hope. We too
long to see the face of God and believe
that we can one day be counted among
those whose robes, as John tells us in the
book of Revelation, are washed “white in
the blood of the Lamb.”
The passage from John’s First Letter offers
further assurance: we are God’s children
who will one day see God. But today’s
Gospel pulls us past longing and
reassurance into action. Jesus clearly tells
us what we must do to be counted among
the saints. We must be poor in spirit,
hungry for holiness, merciful, singlehearted, and peacemakers! Then we too
will see the face of God.

paz. Entonces, nosotros también veremos el
rostro de Dios. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

The Savio Oratory
(Youth Ministry at St. Dominic Savio Church)
By Dianna Rodriguez
Reason, religion, and loving kindness.
Here at the Savio Oratory, Don Bosco’s
Preventive System is integrated into the heart
and soul of every activity planned and
executed. From recreational workshops to
Gospel time, you can expect the kids’ growth in the faith, their joy, and their
safety to be the priorities of the youth animators accompanying them. The
Savio Oratory is a great place for kids and teens alike to become the good
Christians and honest citizens our society needs.
Every Saturday, the kids of the Oratory follow a jam-packed schedule
from 2:00-5:30 that consists of: a welcoming skit and prayer, an icebreaker,
Gospel time followed by worship songs, workshops, snack, Oratory Time, and
a Good Night. Throughout the afternoon, children, ages 5-10, also have the
opportunity to interact with their peers as well as follow in the footsteps of the
animators who serve as their role models. The kids are encouraged to be
themselves because of the welcoming atmosphere instilled by the youth
animators. The space of the youth center adds onto this encouragement because
it provides the boundaries that kids view as security and knowing that they are
safe invokes a sense of freedom. The kids are then, during a specific point in
the day, taught life lessons that come along with reflecting on the Word of
God. The animators help enforce this as they act as guides throughout the day
by motivating the children to share, love, show respect, be considerate, be
humble, and live out so many other virtues that God calls us all to embody.
Reflecting on the Word of God simultaneously inspires the children to further
their spiritual journey. The youth animators, Sisters, Postulants, and priests are
available there to answer any faith-based questions the kids may have.
This dynamic environment is meant to sprout servant leaders out into
the community. Supporting the children enough so that they feel inclined to
serve others out of the goodness of their heart is an outcome we aspire to
accomplish. We foremost want more children to encounter Christ in everyday
life so we are doing our best to provide a striking approach to religion that
appeals to every child. Now this Oratory was only started just a few years ago
so the fruit of our works have yet to ripen. In the meantime, we will
continuously work hard to carry on Don Bosco’s dream.
