GOD’S WORDS
LAS PALABRAS DE DIOS
Each day we are bombarded with thousands
of words. From the moment our clock radios
click on in the morning, until the last moment
of the day when the television is turned off or
someone bids us ―good-night,‖ our life is filled
with words. Some words that we hear bring
news that leaves us feeling low. Some words lift our
spirits. Many of the words we hear are trying to get us
to buy something. Some words are hurtful. Today the
Church focuses our attention on hearing the word of
God. Are God’s words just more of the same—part of
the endless stream of words that flow into our ears each
day? The challenge today is to allow God’s word to inspire us in new ways so that our outlook and attitudes
align themselves more closely with the heart and mind

Cada día somos bombardeados por miles de
palabras. Desde el momento en que suena el
despertador en la mañana, hasta el último momento del día cuando apagamos el televisor o
alguien nos dice ―buenas noches‖, tenemos la
vida llena de palabras. Algunas palabras nos
traen noticias que nos deprimen. Algunas palabras nos

palabras son hirientes. Hoy la Iglesia nos hace prestar
atención a la Palabras de Dios. ¿Son las Palabras de Dios
igual que las demás –parte de una corriente sin fin de
palabras que fluyen por nuestro oídos todos los días? El
reto hoy es permitir que las Palabras de Dios nos inspiren renovando nuestra perspectiva y actitudes para
que estén en mayor consonancia con el corazón y la

Second Sunday Sharing Envelopes

For many years it has been our parish’s custom to include a
Second Sunday Sharing envelope in the packet of donation
envelopes. On the envelope there are several outreach ministries listed as options for the user to choose in designating
where their donation should go. On this Second Sunday of the
month, it is an opportunity to review what these different options are:

an organizing agency which works with various faith communities to empower them to work towards changing unjust structures as well as to promote involvement in civic affairs.

provides a simple lunch for the homeless who are served by

Low-gluten hosts are available
People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, a
protein in wheat, rye and barley. This is problematic for
Catholics who have this disease since in order for the bread
that is used at Mass to be a valid substance for
the sacrament it must include wheat. In recent
years, the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Missouri (the motherhouse of
the Benedictine sisters here in Tucson) have
developed a low-gluten host. Many who suffer
from this disease have been able to consume
these hosts without any ill effects. These altar
breads have been approved by the Vatican as
meeting the standards required for the host to
be considered valid substance for the sacrament.
If you suffer from celiac disease, and would like to be
able to received the Body of Christ at communion, please let
us know in the Parish Office. If there is a need in our parish,
we will make the necessary arrangements to make reception
of the communion under this species available to you.

When your baby cries
Babies and children in our midst are signs of a living Church,
and so are a delight to have with us during Mass. However,
when they cry, scream, or jump around they are, at best, a
distraction from worship and, at worst, a hindrance to worship (preventing others from hearing what is being said).
Everyone knows that keeping the young ones quiet is a
tough challenge for parents. When they begin to squirm,
most people can tolerate the initial stages of their noise making. But when the parent does not make a
move to take them out of the worship
space, the interruption becomes irritating.
It is good etiquette, and far less distracting, for the parent to get up with the child
and move into the vestibule until the child
quiets down.

American Red Cross, the Ave Maria Council
#9380 - Knights of Columbus will host the
first of two semi-annual blood drives for
2011 on Sunday July 24th from 8:00 AM through Noon in
Nicholson Hall. Members of the Knights will be at a table in the
church vestibule on the preceding weekend (July 16-17) after
most of the Masses to solicit sign-ups. You can also call ahead
of that weekend to make a reservation with Timothy
