OUR DEEPEST NEEDS
The word of God serves up a tremendous feast for
us today. Isaiah beckons all who hunger and thirst
to come to the Lord for satisfaction. The psalmist
cries out, “The hand of the Lord feeds us; he answers all our needs” (Psalm 145:16). Saint Paul
tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of
God. Finally, in the Gospel, we hear the story of the miraculous feeding of over five thousand people from a
mere five loaves and two fish. Most of us have our material needs met on a day-to-day basis. These scriptures,
nevertheless, have much to say to the contemporary believer. We must ask ourselves, “Where are my deepest
hungers? Where are my thirsts?” After material needs
are satisfied and, in some cases, over-satisfied, many
people still experience a deep longing for spiritual balance and well-being. As the loaves and fish are multiplied in today’s Gospel, perhaps our prayer can be a
longing for the satisfaction of the deepest needs that

NUESTRAS NECESIDADES MÁS PROFUNDAS
La Palabra de Dios nos brinda hoy una tremenda
fiesta. Isaías llama a todos los que tienen hambre y
sed para que vengan a satisfacerse en el Señor. El
salmista proclama: “Abres tú la mano, y sacias de
favores a todo viviente” (Salmo 145:16). San
Pablo nos dice que nada puede separarnos del
amor de Dios. Finalmente, en el Evangelio, escuchamos
sobre el milagro de la multiplicación de los cinco panes
y dos pescados con que se alimentaron a más de cinco
mil personas. Nuestras necesidades diarias suelen estar
cubiertas. Sin embargo, estas lecturas tienen mucho
que decir al creyente contemporáneo. Debemos
preguntarnos: “¿Dónde está mi hambre más profunda?
¿De qué estoy sediento?”. Una vez satisfechas las necesidades materiales y, en algunos casos, más que satisfechas, mucha gente sigue ansiando tener equilibrio y
bienestar espiritual. Al multiplicarse los panes y pescados en el Evangelio de hoy, tal vez nuestra oración es
anhelar que nuestras necesidades más hondas sean
satisfechas por el único que puede hacerlo: Dios.

A Special Thank-You from Our Knights
Last weekend’s American Red Cross blood
drive, sponsored by our Knights of Columbus, was a big success! We exceeded our
goal (given to us by the Red Cross) of collecting 25 units.
Below are the results:

Celebrate the Independence of Sudan

the independence of Sudan will begin with lunch at
St. Cyril at 1:00 PM in Nicholson Hall. A Mass at 3:00
PM in the church will follow. All are invited to come

For Your Information…
Who is this man we call St. Vincent de Paul?
Vincent was born on April 24, 1581 in Pouy, Landes, Gascony, France. He died in Paris, France on
September 27, 1660 at the age of 79. He was
ordained a Priest in 1600. He was captured by
pirates and sold into slavery before converting his
owner to Christianity and escaping in 1607.
He continued his studies in Rome and later became confessor and spiritual director to the Gondi
family, an illustrious family in France. The Gondi’s
aided Vincent in his work conducting missions.
In 1625, Vincent founded the Vincentian Priests
and with the help of Louise de Marillac he
founded the Daughters of Charity in 1633.
Vincent was renowned for his compassion, humility and
generosity. He was a man of deep faith, keen intellect and
enormous creativity. He has become known as the
“Apostle of Charity” and “Father of the Poor.”
Inspired by Vincent, Blessed Frederic Ozanam founded
the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in 1833. The Society is
dedicated to the service of the poor and is present in 132
Countries.
“Sonoran Spirit”
Diocese of Tucson Fine Art Exhibit
The Diocese of Tucson is sponsoring a Fine Art Exhibit called
the “Sonoran Spirit”. This Fine Art Exhibit features original
artwork of the Clergy and Vowed Religious in the Diocese of
Tucson. Everyone is invited to come and see these wonderful works of art and to meet the artists. Also on display will
be: silversmiths at work, weavers, icononagraphers, painters, caligraphers, sculpters and photographers. The Fine Art
Exhibit is free to the public. Some artwork is available for
sale and commission. The exhibit is available for only one
day: Saturday, September 17th from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at
St. Augustine Cathedral in the Parish Hall and Placita.

¿Quién es este hombre que llamamos
San Vicente de Paul?
Vicente nació el 24 de abril de 1581 en Pouy,

Exhibición de Bellas Artes de la Diócesis de Tucsón
La Diócesis de Tucsón está apoyando una Exhibición de Bellas
