Februar 2013 Auguststraße 50b D - 10119 Berlin T. +49.30 30 64 62 43 F. +49.30 65 21 68 38 [email protected] www.3punts.com Juan Perdiguero Bestiarium 3 Punts Galerie freut sich die erste Einzelausstellung in Deutschland vom spanischen künstler JUAN PERDIGUERO präsentieren zu dürfen Juan Perdiguero, (Madrid *1963) wird bei 3 Punts Galerie, einen Teil seiner neuen Serie Bestiarium zeigen. Die Galerie zeigt neue Bilder hauptsächlich von Schimpansen und andere Affen aber auch eines seinen berühmten Hunden, ein Puma und ein Panther sind zu Besuch in Berlin. Die Ausstellung wird noch bis zum 23. Februar zu sehen. Die Serie Bestiarium besteht aus großformatigen Zeichnungen, schwarzweiß Darstellungen von Affen mit introspektiven, aggressiven, verfremdeten, liebevollen und passiven Blicken. Diese Zeichnungen sind mit Radierungstinte, die auf einer fotografischen Emulsion bearbeitet wird. Bei Ihnen spielt chiaroscuro eine herausragende Rolle. Die Art der Anwendung der Materialien verleiht dem Werk einen mehrdeutigen bildlichen Sinn. Inspiriert in der klassischen Tradition der Porträtmalerei, erforschen diese Bilder vielleicht des „Tierverhaltens“, die wir alle in unserer existentiellen Charakter tragen. Während diese Zeichnungen Darstellungen von Lebewesen sind, metaphorisch erstreben sie Menschenporträts zu sein. Die Mimik dieser Figuren findet Inspiration in Mienenspielen, die wir als Menschen in unserem täglichen Umgang mit unserem gesellschaftlichen Umfeld zeigen. Nach kurzer Betrachtung, identifizieren sich die Zuschauer mit den vielen verschiedenen Emotionen, welche die Zeichnungen übermitteln. Diese Zeichnungen streben danach, die psychologische zweideutige dünne Linie, wo Mensch und Tier gleich sind zu zeigen. Sie sind hybride Bilder, womit der Künstler versucht das Unterbewusstsein der Betrachter einzuholen. Sie sind Projektionen des Künstlers eigene innere Psyche und das Publikum soll sich frei fühlen ihre eigene persönliche Geschichte rund um diese Bilder zu erstellen. “Juan Perdiguero zeigt in seinem beeindruckenden Portraits, dass das Mangel an Bosheit nicht die Abwesenheit von Emotionen, Gefühle, Gewalt oder... Mit verschiedenen Materialien und Techniken (Stichtinte, Teer und Leinöl auf fotografischer Emulsion) arbeite ich langsam und präzise auf dem Papier auf dem ich vorher die Tinte mit den Händen verstrichen habe. Bei partiellen Entfernungen dieser Tinte mit verschiedenen Instrumenten entstehen die Schatten und die Lichter, welche die Figuren hervorbringen. Diese Art Anwendung der Tinte durch einen Reduktionsprozess verleiht dem Werk einen mehrdeutigen bildlichen Sinn. Vor allem strebe ich nach Einfachheit und Gleichgewicht. Ich manipuliere die technischen Grenzen zwischen Malerei, Zeichnung und Fotografie als eine Möglichkeit Bilder zu schaffen, die den Betrachter anziehen und verführen. Meine Absicht, Übergänge zwischen den verschiedenen Techniken zu schaffen, definiert meinen persönlichen Stil, meine Vision der figurativen Ästhetik und der humanistischen Ideen, welche die Basis meiner Arbeit sind. Mich interessieren die zeitgenössischen Recherchen der Psychologie, Psychotherapie, Spiritualität und Philosophie, und wie sie versuchen zu erklären, wie die aktuellen politischen-, sozialen- und kulturellen Bedienungen unsere Gesellschaft beeinflussen. Die emotionale Wirkung meiner Bilder kommuniziert eine tiefe und persönliche psychologische Darstellung unseres Zeitgeistes. Die Bilder der Tiere, die ich schaffe, symbolisieren vielleicht verborgene Aspekte des menschlichen Tiers. Die Bildnisse spiegeln den tierischen Teil unserer Existenz. Sie sind psychologische Offenbarungen einer inneren Psyche, die tiefe Gefühle von Angst und Isolation übermittelt. Meine Arbeit ist tief in die Figuration der spanischen Barockmalerei verwurzelt. Ich möchte die Grenze zwischen dem Klassischen und dem Zeitgenössischen erforschen und damit auswerten wie die konzeptionellen und ästhetischen Quellen dieser Tradition meine Kunst beeinflussen. Durch den Einsatz innovativer Methoden des Zeichnens, die sich mit fotografischen Prozessen vermischen, schaffe ich Bilder, die klassisch erscheinen aber stark zeitgenössisch sind in der Art, wie sie konzipiert und erbracht werden. The gallery will display a series of new drawings mainly from Chimpanzees and other apes, but also one of his famous dogs, a puma and a panther are visiting Berlin. The exhibition will be on until February 23rd. The exhibition consists of large-scale drawings, black and white representations of apes with introspective, aggressive, alienated and passive gazes. These drawings are rendered with a mixed media technique, etching ink on photographic emulsion, where chiaroscuro plays a predominant role, and the application of the ink, through a reductive process, gives the work an ambiguous pictorial sense. Inspired in the classical tradition of portraiture, these images explore the being’s “animal condition”, which we all carry in our existential nature. While these drawings are representations of living creatures, they metaphorically pretend to be human portraits. The facial expressions of these dogs are inspired in those that we, as human beings, show in our daily interaction with our social environment. By staring at them, we may identify with the many different emotions that they wish to transmit. Conceptually, these drawings wish to show the psychologically ambiguous thin line where the human and the animal meet. They are hybrid images where the artist, in order to attract and engage the viewer’s subconscious mind, manipulates the technical borders between drawing and photography. They are projections of the artist’s own inner psyche and the public is free to create their own personal narratives around these images. “Juan Perdiguero shows in his impressive portraits that the absence of evildoing and the true consciousness does not mean an absence of emotions, feelings, violence or…curiosity. Curiosity. That thing so innocent, so linked to childish liveliness and the best in humankind (…) And so, because there is nothing human that cannot be projected on to nature, and there is nothing in the universe that can be perceived by an unsullied gaze, these colossal portraits are always given us back the image of a giant who is beyond any species”. The drawings that I create are free hand renderings of animals and human figures, where chiaroscuro plays a predominant role, and the application of the ink, through a reductive process, gives the work an ambiguous pictorial sense. Above all, I look for simplicity and balance. I manipulate the technical borders between painting, drawing and photography as a way to create images that attract, seduce, confront and engage the viewer’s subconscious mind. My desire to find crossovers between mediums is aimed at better defining the need for a more personal vision of the figurative aesthetics of representation and the humanistic concepts that are the base of my work. I am interested on to the study of current ideas in psychology, psychotherapy, spirituality and philosophy that explore the political and socio-cultural conditioning that influences human behavior in contemporary society. The emotional impact of my images communicates a profound and personal psychological response of the time I am living. The representation of animals that I create symbolizes hidden aspects of the modern condition of the human animal, and while reflecting on the animalistic side of our alienated existence, they become psychological manifestations of the inner psyche that transmit profound feelings of solitude and anxiety. My work is deeply rooted in figuration, coming from the tradition of the Spanish Baroque School. I wish to explore the frontier between the classic and the contemporary by pushing the conceptual and aesthetical sources of this tradition and its historical influence on my art. By using innovative ways of drawing that merge with photography, I create images that are classical in appearance but strongly contemporary in the way they are conceptualized and rendered. These extreme realistic representations of animals are intertwined with abstract and surreal landscapes of pictorial marks that try to psychologically and emotionally engage the viewer. The animals shinning gaze is fixed on something that goes beyond our mental understanding and that creates a sense of restlessness. En la galería se expondrán principalmente trabajos con imágenes de chimpancés y otros simios aunque también se podrán ver obras de sus ya reconocidos perros, un puma y una pantera. La exposición se podrá visitar hasta el 23 de febrero. La serie Bestiarium se compone de dibujos de gran formato. Representaciones en blanco y negro de diversas especies de simios. Estos dibujos están realizados con tintas de grabado sobre emulsión fotográfica, una técnica en la que el chiaroscuro juega un papel fundamental. La forma en la que el artista utiliza los materiales, conceden a la obra un sentido múltiple. Inspirados en la tradición clásica del retrato, estos dibujos exploran quizás el comportamiento animal que todos llevamos dentro. Estas obras son representaciones de seres vivos, pero metafóricamente hablando, son retratos humanos. La mímica de estas figuras encuentra su inspiración en nuestros gestos, gestos humanos cotidianos. Tras breve observación de las obras, el espectador se puede identificar con las distintas emociones que los retratos transmiten. Estos dibujos aspiran a mostrar la delgada línea en la que el hombre y el animal se unen. Son retratos híbridos con los que el artista intenta seducir el subconsciente del observador. Son también proyecciones de la psique del artista y público ha de sentirse libre para ver su propia historia reflejada en estos rostros. „Juan Perdiguero muestra en estos impresionantes retratos, que la inexistencia de una verdadera conciencia no implica inexistencia de emociones, de sentimientos, de violencia o de curiosidad. Curiosidad: esa emoción tan inocente, esa palabra tan ligada a la viveza infantil y a lo mejor del hombre, al conocimiento y al progreso de la humanidad (...). Creo representaciones de animales y figuras humanas, trazadas a mano alzada, mediante una tecnica reductiva de claroscuro, que consiste en ir eliminando parcialmente, de forma lenta y precisa, la tinta previamente aplicada con mis manos, sobre la superficie de la emulsion fotografica. Este proceso me permite ir generando tonos, transparencias y efectos luminicos fotorealistas de sentido pictorico ambiguo. Sobre todo, busco simplicidad y equilibrio en la organizacion espacial de las imagenes. Manipulo los limites tecnicos entre pintura, dibujo y fotografia como forma de crear imagenes que atraen, seducen y confrontan la mente subsconsciente del espectador. Mi deseo por encontrar interconexiones entre medios plasticos, esta dirigido a definir una vision personal de la estetica de la representacion figurativa y de los conceptos humanisticos que son la base de mi trabajo. Estoy interesado en el estudio de teorias e ideas contemporaneas en psicologia, psicoterapia, espiritualidad y filosofia que exploran los condicionamientos politicos y socio culturales que influencian el comportamiento humano en en nuestra sociedad contemporanea. El impacto emocional de mis imagenes comunica una respuesta psiclogica, personal y profunda del tiempo en que vivo. Las imagenes que creo, simbolizan los aspectos reconditos de la condicion moderna del animal humano. Estas reflejan la parte animalistica de nuestra existencia, convirtiendose en manifestaciones psicologicas de una psyche interna que transmite profundos sentimientos de ansiedad y aislamiento. Mi trabajo esta profundamente enraizado en la figuracion procedente de la tradicion pictorica de la escuela barroca española. Deseo explorar la frontera entre lo clasico y lo contemporaneo, analizar las fuentes conceptuales y esteticas de esta tradicion y su influencia historica sobre mi creacion artistica. Mediante la utilizacion de metodos innovadores de dibujo que se entremezclan con procesos fotograficos, creo imagenes que son en apariencia clasicas pero contemporaneas en la forma en que han sido conceptualizadas y ejecutadas.
