In today’s Gospel Jesus talks about life with his
Father and the Spirit. He tells his disciples that
what belongs to the Father belongs to him, and
that the Spirit will take from what is his and give it
to them. Jesus helps us understand that the
relationship between Father, Son and Spirit is one
of perfect sharing and loving generosity. This
shared life is the foundation for what we now
understand as part of living life in the Trinity. The
abundant generosity of those who are good
stewards of the gifts entrusted to them gives us a
glimpse into the love of the Triune God. Does the
generosity with which we live our lives bear
witness to God’s extraordinarily generous life
within us?

Fr. Joe’s Week: Last Th ur sday Fr . McK enna
and I went to a Red Wing’s game. It was a sunny day
and we had great seats behind home plate…This
weekend at Mass we began nominating folks for
Pastoral Council. The election will be in June…
Sunday morning we had our May crowning. The kids
were so cute as they placed flowers before the
Blessed Mother. After Mass I stayed for the Living
Rosary—which the kids did with such devotion.
Pictures of it are at our Facebook page (Nativity
Brockport). Take a look! It was also our last
Religious Education class and our last Sunday for
Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Thanks to all who
work so hard to pass on the Gospel to our young
people. You do such great work: God love you for it…
Monday I had the funeral for Patrick O’Hare. His
family did a fine job helping with the service, and
had a nice luncheon at the StoneYard…Monday
evening we had a nice group to discuss Pope Francis’
“The Joy of Love.” I was very impressed by the
document, and there was interested discussion and
questions. I particularly recommend chapter 5, on
love in marriage, to all married couples and those
planning to get married…Tuesday morning I went to
breakfast with a few of the Parish Center Planning
Group to set the details for Wednesday’s meeting
with design firms…Tuesday afternoon we had Mass
at Beikirch—a full group this month. Such a nice
celebration and excellent support from both
parishioners and the staff at Beikirch…That
afternoon I went to the SSJ Motherhouse for Fr. Bill
Gordinier’s wake. I got to know Gordy when he was
in Geneseo, and many of my parishioners in Fair
Haven/Red Creek remembered him fondly. While I
was at the Motherhouse I visited Fr. Jack Philipps.
He is in great spirits—it seems that he can hear
much better than before. We reminded each other of
a lot of stories from the late 70s, and Fr. Lintz. I told
him about our moving forward on a Parish Center,
and he wanted to be kept up on the project. He reads
our bulletin every week with great interest, and
wanted me to say “Hi” to all from him…Tuesday
evening our Pastoral Council met to finalize details
on the Volunteers’ Brunch this Sunday, and a few
other projects…Wednesday I went to the dentist in
the morning, then to St. John’s religious shoppe in
Spencerport. Our finance council met in the
afternoon to begin working on the budget which
should be ready for approval next month. That
evening our Parish Center Planning Group met for a
quick supper followed by the design firm interviews.
The results of that meeting are in the “God’s Call to
Nativity” column. After the meeting I had a short
glass of a lovely 18-year-old Laphroaig…God bless
and have a good week.

Call to Nativity
On Wednesday evening we interviewed two design
firms. They were both well-prepared and made fine
presentations. We decided to ask LaBella Associates to
prepare a concept for our Parish Center. This will not be
final designs or blueprints, but the first stage of design
where the architects propose placement of a building,
size and general appearance, and provide an estimate of
cost. It is a fluid process that will involve many
meetings with the designers, discussion of ideas, their
own research into our needs and use patterns, etc. The
end product is a conceptual design that we can present
to the parish. We chose LaBella because of their vision
for our project: that our Parish Center be a welcoming
statement and that it harmonize with our existing lovely
buildings. LaBella is an international firm, based in
Rochester, of some 400 employees. They have worked
closely with many parishes in our diocese, and are very
familiar with diocesan building processes. Please
continue to pray for our Parish Center Planning Group.
Please take the time to consider
persons to be elected to the
Council. We will ask the person
Parish Pastoral Council
you nominate if they are willing
to serve. Any member of the
parish may be nominated as a council member. You
may nominate yourself if you would be willing to
become a council member. Elected members serve a
term of three years.
Election will be at the Masses on June 11/12. The
specific purposes of the pastoral council are:
· To form community as a sign and witness of unity for
the larger parish community
· To provide recommendations for parish priorities,
directions and policies through pastoral planning
· To promote communication, understanding, and
collaboration among parish organizations and
between the parish, the Diocese and the universal
church.
Our Pastoral Council is comprised of ex-officio
members and parishioners elected at-large. There are 9
elected members of the council plus (up to) two youth
members. Additionally, the Pastor may appoint from 13 members to the council.
The council should be a true reflection of the parish
community. Members must be registered and
supporting members of the parish, participants in
parish life, committed to prayer, study, listening and
dialogue and committed to giving the time needed for
participation.
