PASTOR’S REFLECTION — This season is so full of magnificent feasts commemorating such powerful moment of faith. One after another, our celebrations have shown us the great love of our God for us. – The Birth of Our Lord; the Holy Family, Mary the Mother of God, and today the Epiphany. All of these great feasts have offered us an opportunity to reflect more deeply and with a renewed faith how much God loves us and the world. Today’s feast is one more in the long line of celebrations of faith. Epiphany literally means: “manifestation” or “to show.” And this show is surrounded by Light. We see a star and are led to a humble place where the newborn king of the Jews lives. Although it is a star, shining brightly and boldly in a world filled with darkness and suspicion, the real “Light” is the baby – the newborn life sheltered in a stable and lovingly protected by Mary and Joseph. This Child is the Light that will show us the way through the darkness – away from sin and death into new life. He shows us the way to heaven. He shows us the way to His Father. The “show” then is not a Broadway play or a movie. Rather it is the revelation of the Son of God as our Savior and Lord. More than a show – more than acting out some drama, Jesus is the star; He is the stage; He is the Light! On this Feast of the Epiphany, let’s be like those Wise Men and see Jesus as the One who brings Light into the world. But let’s go farther – let’s not just see Jesus, but let’s share Jesus so His Light will light up our world in faith and hope. They may have their marriage validated (sometimes called blessed) in the Catholic Church! Please call the Parish Office at 734-9522, to make an appointment to see a priest. The marriage can be validated (blessed) in a simple, private ceremony in the Catholic Church (the six-month waiting period would usually not apply to marriage validations).
