THE FIGHT WITHIN
“You shall not bear hatred . . . take no revenge and
cherish no grudge,” says God through the prophet
Moses (Leviticus 19:17, 18). Jesus says, “You have
heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your
neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you,
love your enemies and pray for those who persecute
you” (Matthew 5:43–44). The struggle begins
within our own hearts.
A Cherokee story tells of a boy angry over some
slight. His grandfather said, “I have known hate. It
wears me down.” He continued, “It is like two
wolves inside me. One is good, does no harm, and lives in harmony with
others. He rarely takes offense. But the
other wolf is full of anger. The smallest
thing sets him to fighting anyone for no
reason. He cannot think for his hate and
anger. It is hard with these two wolves
trying to dominate my spirit.” The boy
looked intently at his grandfather.
“Which one wins, Grandfather?” The
old man smiled and said, “The one I
feed.” Copyright © 2010, World Library Publications.
Monday through Friday at 3:00pm for the safety of the Blessed
Sacrament, our Chapel, parishioners and visitors with exception to
Legal Holidays. On those special
days, the Chapel will be locked
after
morning
liturgy.
This
decision, although difficult, is in
the best interest of our parish
community due to shortage of
staff to properly monitor our
Chapel past 3pm and due to
safety concerns from other
parishes
and
recent
past
experiences. Thank you for your
understanding!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one
another as good stewards of God's varied grace.

In today's society, and simply being a
teenager, I think it's difficult to find current
day examples of selfless people that Jesus is
calling us to be. He is asking of us to put
others before ourselves, especially those
who we believe might not be deserving of it.
It takes a lot for a person to swallow their
pride and kill others with kindness when we
are not getting the same treatment back. But
like the Gospel says, "If you love those who
love you, what recompense will you have?"...
Jesus died on the cross for sinners, reached
out to those who were excluded by society,
and was the perfect image of selflessness. He
got nothing in return for the pain and taunts
he endured, and he continued to preach to
the non-believers, because it was His calling
and the instructions He had received from
God. If we all strive to humble ourselves and
live in the lifestyle of Jesus, giving without
expecting a reward, we will be fulfilling our
calling as well.

some very practical skills on how to cultivate and
nurture your faith through personal conversion and
transformation.

Cherokee cuenta
mateo 5:44
acerca de un
niño que estaba enojado por un desaire
que le habían hecho. Su abuelo le dijo:
“Yo he conocido el odio y me agobia”.

hacerlos pescadores de hombres;
atrae hacia Ti las almas ardientes y
generosas de los jóvenes, para
hacerlos tus seguidores y ministros.
Te pedimos que envíes: Sacerdotes
según tu corazón que nos alimenten
con el Pan de Tu Palabra y en la
mesa de Tu Cuerpo y de Tu Sangre;
Consagrados que, por su santidad,
sean testigos de Tu Reino; Laicos
que, en medio del mundo, den
testimonio de ti con su vida
y su palabra.
Buen Pastor, fortalece a los que ya
elegiste; y
ayúdalos a
crecer en el
amor y santidad
para que
respondan
plenamente a tu
llamada.
María, Madre de
las vocaciones,
ruega por
nosotros. Amén.

The Our Mother of Africa Chapel is
located in the Basilica of the National
Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
in Washington, DC. It was dedicated
on August 30, 1998 during the
celebration of National Black Catholic
Congress VIII. The Chapel was
presented by the African American
community as a gift to the National
Shrine and to the Catholic
community. The Chapel expresses the
values, hopes, dreams, aspirations,
and history of African American
Catholic peoples. The completion of
the chapel provides the shrine with 60
chapels, and six oratories reflecting
the ethnic and cultural diversity of the
United States Church.
