We, a Catholic community of diverse multicultural backgrounds, unite as a family under one Baptism in Christ. We
come together to pray, evangelize, learn and serve one another, the community and humankind. Guided by the Holy
Spirit, we pursue this mission by participation in the liturgical,
educational, outreach and social ministries of the Church.

This weekend about 375 youth will share in the Eucharist
for the first time. Thank you – our parish family for joining
us for the celebration. We often ask – “why we stand following reception of Communion?” We stand to show we
are in Communion with the Lord and our parish family. Truly we are one body in Christ – many parts, but one body.
Many people have helped to make this moment possible
for each of our students. First and foremost, the parents
and Baptismal Godparents of the children. They are the
first and usually the most influential mentors of the faith to
their children. Second our parish priest and deacons that
give so freely their time to support our parish formation programs and formation staff. Last but just as important, the
village of volunteers. From the 100 or so volunteer catechists and small group leaders in our Wednesday and
Sunday programs, to the teachers in our parish sponsored school, and the many who give not only one day a
week to teach but also the occasional weekend for retreat.
Just this past Saturday we held a Eucharist Experience Day for the First Communicants. 50 or more volunteers gave up their time and lots of energy to help the youth of our parish practice receiving Eucharist and
deepen their faith by exploring the sacrament through role playing, painting, bread baking, and service projects. It was a busy event filled day and these volunteers were Christ by their actions and deeds. Some were
first time volunteers at the event but many of them have helped for years and always with great joy. I know
they, like all of us, are busy and find it hard to have relaxing down time, but yet they say yes to the call to
spend the day in constant motion with our youth. I have been truly blessed to work with a wonderful group of
volunteers and I pray that they know their service is appreciated. Their names are too numerous to mention
– and I know they do it for Christ but these events could not happen without you – Thank you!
Jesus said, “let the little children come to me..” (Matthew 19;14)
let us all come to Him in the Eucharist this weekend and always.

Este fin de semana apróximadamente 375 jóvenes compartirán la Eucaristía por la primera vez. Muchas
gracias a nuestra familia parroquial por acompañarnos en nuestra celebración. A menudo nos preguntan –“
¿Por qué nos quedamos de pie después de comulgar?” Nos quedamos de pie para demostrar que estamos
en Comunión con nuestro Señor y nuestra familia parroquial. En verdad somos un cuerpo en Cristo –
muchas partes, pero un solo cuerpo.
Este momento se ha hecho posible para nuestros estudiantes gracias a la ayuda de mucha gente. Primero y principal, los padres y los Padrinos Bautismales de los niños. Por lo usual, ellos son los primeros y
los que más influyen en la fe de sus hijos. Segundo están nuestros padres parroquiales y diáconos que ofrecen libremente su tiempo para apoyar nuestros programas de formación parroquial y a nuestro equipo de formación. Por último pero no menos importante, la aldea de voluntarios: a los 100 catequistas voluntarios y
los líderes de grupos pequeños en nuestro programa del Miércoles y Domingo, a los maestros de nuestro
colegio parroquial, y a los muchos que no solo proporcionan un día a la semana para enseñar, sino también
ocasionalmente un fin de semana para un retiro.
Justo este fin de semana pasado los Primeros Comulgantes tuvieron una Experiencia Eucarística. Más de
50 voluntarios regalaron su tiempo y energía para ayudar a los jóvenes de nuestra parroquia a practicar el
recibir la Eucaristía y a profundizar su fe explorando el sacramento a través de representación, pintura, horneando pan, y proyectos de servicio. Fue un día de eventos muy ocupado y estos voluntarios, por sus acciones y obras, eran Cristo. Algunos eran voluntarios por primera vez pero muchos han ayudado por muchos
años y siempre con mucha alegría. Yo se que ellos, como todos nosotros están ocupados y se les hace
difícil conseguir tiempo para relajarse; aún así, dicen que si a pasar todo el día en constante movimiento con
nuestros jóvenes. Realmente he sido bendecida de trabajar con un grupo maravilloso de voluntarios y rezo
para que ellos sepan que su servicio es apreciado. Sus nombres son muchos para ennumerarlos y yo se
que ellos lo hacen por Cristo. Estos eventos no serían un hecho sin ustedes – Gracias!
Jesus dijo, “dejad que los niños vengan a mí…” (Mateo 19:14)
Que todos vayamos a El en la Eucaristía este fin de semana y siempre.

Pope Francis on Mary, the Untier of Knots
The month of May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to
Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world pay to the Queen of Heaven. During this month we will look
at a three part series on Mary’s faith from Pope Francis.
Part 1. The first aspect of her faith is this: Mary's faith unties the knot of sin (cf. Lumen Gentium, 56). What does that mean? The Fathers of the Second Vatican Council took
up a phrase of Saint Irenaeus, who states that "the knot of Eve's disobedience was untied
by the obedience of Mary; what the virgin Eve bound by her unbelief, the Virgin Mary loosened by her
faith" (Adversus Haereses, III, 22, 4).
The "knot" of disobedience, the "knot" of unbelief. When children disobey their parents, we can say that a little
"knot" is created. This happens if the child acts with an awareness of what he or she is doing, especially if
there is a lie involved. At that moment, they break trust with their parents. You know how frequently this happens! Then the relationship with their parents needs to be purified of this fault; the child has to ask forgiveness so that harmony and trust can be restored.
Something of the same sort happens in our relationship with God. When we do not listen to him, when we do
not follow his will, we do concrete things that demonstrate our lack of trust in him - for that is what sin is - and
a kind of knot is created deep within us. These knots take away our peace and serenity. They are dangerous,
since many knots can form a tangle which gets more and more painful and difficult to undo.

Papa Francis sobre María, el Untier de nudos
El mes de María es “el mes en el que la devoción de los fieles se
dedica particularmente a la Santísima Virgen María” y es una
ocasión especial para un emotivo tributo de fe y amor que los
católicos de todo el mundo ofrecen a la Reina del Cielo. A lo largo
del mes analizaremos una serie del Papa Francisco sobre tres
aspectos de la fe de María.
1) La fe de María desatanudo del pecado ( Lumen Gentium 56)
¿Qué significa esto? Los Padres Conciliares durante el Concilio
Vaticano II citaron a San Irineo quien dijo “El nudo de la desobediencia de Eva fue desatado por la obediencia de María; lo que la
virgen Eva amarro por la incredulidad, la Virgen María lo desato
por la fe” (Adversus Haereses, III, 22,4) El “nudo” de la desobediencia, el “nudo” de la incredulidad. Cuando los hijos desobedecen
a sus padres podemos decir que se forma un pequeño “nudo”.
Esto sucede cuando el niño actúa plenamente consciente de lo
que están haciendo, especialmente si hay una mentira involucrada. En ese momento la confianza con sus padres se quiebra.
¡Todos sabemos con cuanta frecuencia sucede esto! Es entonces
que la relación con sus padres necesita ser depurada de esta falta; el hijo debe pedir perdón para restaurar la armonía y la confianza.
Algo similar ocurre en nuestra relación con Dios. Cuando no lo
escuchamos, nos alejamos de Él y pecamos, un “nudo” se forma
en lo profundo de nuestro corazón. Estos “nudos” nos quitan la
paz y la serenidad.
El peligro es que muchos “nudos” pueden formar una maraña que
se vuelve cada vez más difícil y dolorosa de desenredar.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
The image of the Vine
and the Branches is one which has meant a great deal to people in the Mediterranean world. A vineyard is
very familiar to them. We know a little about Napa Valley in California, and long time residents to this area
remember a plethora of vineyards in the area, especially in Tontitown and Springdale. Surely, we can conjure
up the image of a vine which has a single trunk going into the ground but branches out into a multitude of
segments with leaves and bunches of grapes. Pruning
helps keep the branches strong and fruit filled. Cut
any branch off from the trunk and it certainly dies.
The early Church fondly remembered the image of the
Vine and the Branches from the words of Jesus. They
knew that the Church community was now the Vineyard of the Lord. God loved the Vineyard. God had
surely planted this Vineyard. Who else but God could
care for and protect and give fruit to the Church? Unity with Christ was seen as totally essential. Cut off
from Christ, the members of the Church would wither
and die. The Vineyard itself was threatened if Christ
were not its center and its very life. Nurtured by the
risen life of the Savior, the Vineyard thrived in spiritual
health and produced much fruit for the Kingdom of
God.
Unity with one another in the Church also finds a basis in this image of the Vineyard. Surely, the branches of a vine cannot exist without one another. In the
Church, we very much need each other for our spiritual growth and development. We contribute and receive
from each other the vital life that comes from the risen Lord Jesus Christ. Any behavior which threatens the
unity of the Church community blocks the lifeblood given by Christ for the holiness of all the members. The
Vineyard of the Lord continues to thrive and we within it. God's grace continues to be poured into our lives
from the risen life of Christ. The faith community lives off the life that flowed from the side of Christ as he
hung on the Cross. We live the life of the Risen Lord already as we renew our baptism on Sundays in the Eucharist. The Spirit of Christ breathed upon us continues to give us divine energy to live out the precepts of the
Lord. There is no greater power than that which we get from Christ as we celebrate his death and resurrection in liturgy

La imagen de la vid y los sarmientos es una que ha significado mucho para las personas del mundo mediterráneo. Un viñedo es algo muy familiar para ellos, quizás menos para nosotros. Conocemos un poco acerca del Valle Napa en California. Ciertamente, podemos evocar la imagen de una viña con un solo tronco en
la tierra pero con muchas ramas que lleven a multitudes de hojas y racimos de uvas. La poda ayuda a que
las ramas sean fuertes y den frutos en abundancia. Si uno corta una rama de un arbol, ciertamente muere.
La Iglesia primitiva recuerda con cariño la imagen de la vid y sus sarmientos extraída de las palabras de
Jesús. Ellos supieron que la Comunidad de la Iglesia era ahora el viñedo del Señor. Dios ama su viñedo. Dios planto el viñedo. Quien más que Dios podría haber cuidado, protegido y dado frutos a la Iglesia.
La unión con Cristo ha sido esencial. Separados de Cristo los miembros de la Iglesia se marchitan o mueren.
El viñedo se vería amenazado si Cristo no fuera su centro y su vida. Nutrido por la resurrección del Salvador,
el viñedo creció en salud espiritual y produjo mucho fruto para el Reino de Dios.
La unidad dentro de la Iglesia también tiene su cimiento en la imagen del viñedo; las ramas de una vida no
pueden existir separadas las unas de las otras. En la Iglesia todos nos necesitamos para nuestro crecimiento
espiritual y desarrollo. Contribuimos y recibimos los unos de los otros la Vida que nos es dada por Cristo
resucitado. Cualquier comportamiento que atenta contra la unidad de la comunidad eclesial frena la vida por
Cristo para la santidad de sus miembros. La viña del Señor continua progresando y nosotros dentro de ella.
La gracia de Dios sigue derramándose en nuestras vidas.
La fe de la comunidad vive de la vida que brota del costado de Cristo clavado en la cruz. Vivimos la Vida de
Cristo Resucitado cuando renovamos nuestro bautismo los domingos en la Eucaristía. El Espíritu de Cristo
que soplo sobre nosotros continua dándonos energía divina para vivir los preceptos de Dios. No hay mayor
poder que el que recibimos de Cristo al conmemorar su muerte y resurrección en la liturgia.
Parish Council Nominees
Oneyda Reyna has been a parishioner of our parish for 13 years. She has been married to Rigoberto Bernal for 20 years and they have three children: Emily 18, Melani 16, and Rigoberto 11. Oneyda is a partner in
a cleaning service.
Oneyda has serves as EMC for 7 years, has been involved with the baptism ministry for 3 years, and has
participated in Bible study for 2 years. She enjoys reading and staying abreast of what is happening in the
community. She is originally from Tamaulipas, Mexico and has lived in the United States
for 19 years and she would love to serve her community by participating on the Parish
Council.

Peter C. (Pete) Metzger, currently retired, is the Co-Founder and was COO / CFO of ASPIRE assisting single parents in realizing education, a start-up national organization based in Arkansas. Previously Pete
served in a variety of capacities spanning twenty plus years with Walmart Stores Inc. His last position was
Vice President and Managing Director of Walmart South East Asia.
Pete was also on the Board of Directors of the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund having served as a
member-at-large, Vice President of the Board and was President of the Board and Chairman of the Executive Committee. In addition Pete has also served on the Advisory Council, held the office of Finance Chair,
served as Chairman of the Board and is currently on the Advisory Council of the Single Parent Scholarship
Fund of Benton County. He also serves on the Executive Board of the ALS Association Arkansas Chapter
which covers the entire State of Arkansas with Patient Care Services and provides research dollars to the
National Association.
Pete severed in the U. S. Air Force and was a member of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) from 1957 to
1962.
He has been married to his wife Marj for 52 years. They have two children: Tracey Ann Gibson and Eric
Metzger and four grandchildren.
Pete has been in the parish approximately 22 years, and is involved in various ministries: St. Andrews
School, Cursillo, Ultreya, Bible Study and EMC.
Peter C. (Pete) Metzger, actualmente jubilado es el Co-Fundador y fue Director de
Operaciones/Director Financiero de ASPIRE ayudando a padres solteros en la realización de educación. Una organización iniciada a nivel nacional con sede en Arkansas.

Kerry Laman has been married for 26 years to Regina. They have three children: Jennifer 18, Grayson 15, Meredith 13 – all attended St. Vincent.
He is employed in the Consumer Products Field managing SAM’s and Walmart.
He has been a member of the parish for 13 years when he and family relocated to Rogers from Minneapolis (2002).
Kerrys’ involvement historically has been with the School. He has served as assistant
coach for 5 – 6 grade girls basketball and 5 – 6 grade boys basketball. From 1995 to
1999 he was Chairman of the Northwest Arkansas Catholic High School Committee and
was appointed to that position by Bishop Sartain before he left.

Pero sabemos una cosa: ¡Nada es imposible para la
misericordia de Dios! Hasta los nudos más enredados
son desatados por su gracia. Y María, cuyo “Si” le
abrió la puerta a Dios para soltar el nudo de la antigua desobediencia, es la Madre que paciente y amorosamente nos acerca a Dios para que Él pueda desatar los nudos de nuestra alma con su paternal misericordia. Todos nosotros tenemos estos nudos y podemos preguntarnos con total sinceridad: ¿Cuáles
son los nudos en mi vida? “¡Padre, mis nudos no
pueden ser desatados!” “Es un error pensar esto”
Todos los nudos de nuestro corazón y de nuestra
conciencia pueden ser desatados. ¿Le pido a María
que me ayude a confiar en la misericordia de Dios
para desatar los nudos, para cambiar? Ella como mujer de fe seguramente te diría: “levántate y ve hacia el
Señor, Él te comprende”. Y ella nos lleva de la mano

But we know one thing: nothing is impossible for
God's mercy! Even the most tangled knots are loosened by his grace. And Mary, whose "yes" opened
the door for God to undo the knot of the ancient disobedience, is the Mother who patiently and lovingly
brings us to God, so that he can untangle the knots of
our soul by his fatherly mercy. We all have some of
these knots and we can ask in our heart of hearts.
What are the knots in my life? "Father, my knots cannot be undone!" It is a mistake to say anything of the
sort! All the knots of our heart, every knot of our conscience, can be undone. Do I ask Mary to help me
trust in God's mercy, to undo those knots, to change?
She, as a woman of faith, will surely tell you: "Get up,
go to the Lord: he understands you". And she leads
us by the hand as a Mother, our Mother, to the embrace of our Father, the Father of mercies.

Attention students and parents who just completed their First Year of
preparation to receive Sacraments and were following a Blue or Green
schedule during 2014-15. Please note that reenrollment is necessary
for the second year of preparation for the 2015-16 Religious Education
year. Please plan to reenroll Wednesday May 20th at the Church office from 10am to 4pm. Please contact the Church office if you have
any questions regarding reenrollment.

MAY CROWNING
All First Communicants are invited to participate in the May crowning celebration scheduled
for Wednesday, May 6th, prior to the 5:30 pm Mass. This is the last date and event listed on
all of the 2nd – 5th grade Red group student’s schedule. Please meet outside the church at
5 pm. We will line up, Aprocess in before Mass starts, have the crowning of the Blessed
Mother and then celebrate Mass and Eucharist together. All students will be dismissed
from the church immediately after the conclusion of the Mass. We invite you to wear
your First Communion dress clothes if you want to and have time to change.
Todos los niños que hicieron su Primera Comunión están cordialmente invitados a la celebración de la Coronación de Maria que será el Miércoles 6 de Mayo, antes de la Misa de 5:30 pm. Esta es la última fecha y evento
en el horario rojo de los de 2do a 5to grado. Por favor reunirse afuera de la iglesia a las 5pm. Haremos una fila,
iremos en procesión adentro y antes de que comience la Misa, tendremos la coronación de la Santísima Madre y
después juntos celebraremos la Misa y la Eucaristía.
Todos los estudiantes serán recogidos en
la iglesia inmediatamente después de Misa. Los invitamos a que se vistan con su ropa de Primera Comunión si

Little Rock Theology Institute is a three-year academic program for adults wishing to learn more about the
Catholic faith. Students may attend for personal enrichment, catechist certification or to earn a bachelor's degree in theology. Learn more about earning a bachelor's degree.
The classes, which are offered one weekend a month from September to June, are taught by diocesan staff
and professors from various Catholic colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
Participants meet on Fridays from 7-10 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at St. John Catholic

Open registration is held each year from May 1 to Aug. 14. Whether attending for personal enrichment, catechist certification or to pursue a bachelor's degree, ALL students must register. You may register online or

Can Mary really help us?
Yes. Since the beginning of the Church, experience has taught that Mary helps. Millions of Christians testify to
it. Being the Mother of Jesus, Mary is also our Mother. Good mothers always stand up for their children. Certainly this Mother does. While still on earth she interceded with Jesus for others; for example, she protected a
bride and groom in Cana from embarrassment. In the Upper Room on Pentecost she prayed in the midst of
the disciples. Because her love for us never ceases, we can be sure that she will plead for us in the two most
important moments of our life: "now and at the hour of our death"
May we worship Mary?
No. Only God can be worshipped. But we can revere Mary as the Mother of our Lord. By worship we mean
the humble, unconditional acknowledgment of the absolute superiority of God over all creatures. Mary is a
creature like us. In faith she is our Mother. And we should honor our parents. There is a biblical basis for this,
since Mary herself says, "For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed" (Lk 1:48b). So the
Church has Marian shrines and places of pilgrimage, feast days, hymns, and prayers, for instance, the Rosary. It is a compendium of the Gospels. CCC section (967-971)
¿Puede María realmente ayudarnos?
Sí. Desde el principio de la Iglesia, la experiencia ha mostrado como María ayuda. Millones de Cristianos dan
testimonio de ello.
Al ser Madre de Jesús, María es también nuestra Madre. Las buenas madres siempre defienden a sus hijos.
Definitivamente María lo hace, Estando aun en la tierra intercedió con Jesús por otros; por ejemplo, protegió
a los novios en Cana de pasar vergüenza. En el Cenáculo en Pentecostés rezo en medio de los apóstoles.
Ya que su amor por nosotros nunca se acaba, podemos estar seguros que estará rogando por nosotros en
los dos momentos más importantes de nuestras vidas “ahora y en la hora de nuestra muerte”.
¿Podemos adorar a María?
No. Solamente Dios puede ser adorado. Pero podemos venerar a María como Madre de Dios. Entendemos
por adorar: el reconocimiento humilde, incondicional de la absoluta superioridad de Dios por sobre todas las
criaturas. María es una criatura como nosotros. En la Fe, nuestra Madre. Y debemos honrar a nuestros padres. Hay un fundamento bíblico para esto, ya que María misma dice “Pues he aquí, desde ahora en adelante todas las generaciones me dirán bienaventurada” (Lucas 1,48b) Es así como Iglesia tiene santuarios
Marianos, lugares de peregrinación, días festivos y plegarias. Por ejemplo el Rosario. Es un compendio de
los Evangelios. (Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica sección (967-971)
