Este mes de octubre, uno de los hoteles más emblemáticos de Madrid, el Ritz, está de cumpleaños, nada menos que 100 años son
los que cumple este establecimiento madrileño.
Su construcción fue promovida por el propio Rey Alfonso XIII que, con motivo de su boda, se dio cuenta de la escasez de hoteles de lujo
que había en Madrid. Así que los arquitectos se pusieron manos a la obra y el 2 de octubre de 1910 se inauguraba el tercer Hotel Ritz
que existía en el mundo, después del de Londres y el de parís. Ahora le tocaba el turno al de Madrid.
Por sus habitaciones han pasado los más ilustres personajes del siglo XX y XXI: príncipes, actores y actrices, directores de cine, políticos, etc. Son 100 años de hospitalidad, lujo, estilo y confort.
Desde este mes de octubre y hasta el mismo mes de 2011, el Ritz va a echar la casa por la ventana en celebraciones, con un amplio programa de eventos centrados en la gastronomía, la música, el arte y el deporte.
Desde Botín, de centenario a centenario, queremos felicitar al Hotel Ritz, con el que tenemos excelentes relaciones, por sus primeros
100 años de vida… ¡Y que cumpla muchos más!
This October one of Madrid's most emblematic hotels, the Ritz, is having a birthday, its hundredth since the founding of this Madrid establishment.
Its construction was promoted by King Alfonso XIII himself, who on the occasion of his wedding realised that there was a scarcity of luxury hotels in
Madrid.Architects started work and 2 October 1910 saw the inauguration of the third Ritz Hotel in the world, after the ones in London and Paris. Now
it was Madrid's turn.
The most illustrious personages of the 20th and 21st
centuries have occupied its rooms: princes, actors and
actresses, film directors, politicians, etc. It can boast
100 years of hospitality, luxury, style and comfort.

From this month of October and until the same
month in 2011, the Ritz is sparing no expense in
celebrations, with a wide-ranging programme of
events that will focus on gastronomy, music, art and
sport.

Pocos son los que conocen los orígenes franceses de este
futbolista, pero la realidad es que nació al otro lado de los Pirineos,
aunque abandonó Francia a la tierna edad de diez meses para marcharse con su familia a Argentina, país en el que creció humana
y futbolísticamente.
Botín,from one century-old establishment to another,
wishes to congratulate the Ritz Hotel, with which it
maintains excellent relations, for its first 100 years of
life… And may there be many more!

Tras destacar en el River, en 2006 fue fichado por el Real Madrid,
equipo en el actualmente triunfa como delantero. No en vano, la
temporada pasada fue el máximo anotador de su equipo, con 29
goles. Y también lo fue de la selección argentina en el pasado
Mundial de Sudáfrica, de tan grato recuerdo para todos los españoles.
El pasado verano se confirmó la renovación del "pipita", como es
conocido popularmente, con el Real Madrid, hasta el año 2016.
Así que los aficionados españoles podremos seguir divirtiéndonos
con su juego al menos seis temporadas más.

Pues bien, Gonzalo Higuaín decidió pasarse el otro día por Botín
para disfrutar de la gastronomía española a la que es aficionado. Desde aquí le deseamos la mejor de las suertes para esta temporada.
Not many people know about the French origins of this footballer, but in truth he was born on the other side of the Pyrenees, although
he left France at the tender age of ten months to go with his family to
Argentina, the country where he grew up in human and football terms.
After standing out at River Plate, in 2006 he was signed up to Real
Madrid, the team where he currently plays successfully as a forward. Not
for nothing was he the highest scorer for his team last season, with 29
goals. He was also the highest scorer for the Argentina team in the recent
World Cup in South Africa, which holds such pleasant memories for all
Spaniards.
Last summer saw the contract renewal with Real Madrid of "El Pipita", as
he is popularly known, until the year 2016.This means that Spanish fans
will be able to continue enjoying his game for at least another six seasons.
Gonzalo Higuain decided to come to Botín the other day to enjoy the
Spanish gastronomy that he is so fond of.We all wish him the best of luck
for this season.

En 1922, en la Residencia de Estudiantes, tiene lugar el primer encuentro entre estos dos controvertidos genios del arte
español, Salvador Dalí y Federico García Lorca. Entre ellos surge una fuerte amistad y también una relación intelectual.
Como consecuencia de las obras de ensanche de Madrid, a mediados del siglo XIX, surge el Barrio de Salamanca. Los personajes más destacados de la época fijan allí
su residencia en elegantes y señoriales edificios ubicados en
anchas calles. Una de estas es la calle Serrano, que originariamente se llamó bulevar Narváez, y solo tras la revolución de 1868 pasó a llamarse Serrano, en honor a Francisco
Serrano y Domínguez, último presidente de la Primera
República Española. La calle discurría entre la Puerta de
Alcalá y la avenida de Concha Espina.
La exposición que, hasta el 6 de febrero, podemos ver en el CaixaForum de Madrid, nos muestra, precisamente, esta tormentosa relación entre un pintor, que a veces deseaba ser escritor, y un escritor que ambicionaba secretamente pintar. Durante
siete años intentarán colaborar, aunque su proyecto no terminará de consolidarse y al final se distanciaran.
La primera parte de la exposición hace referencia al encuentro de ambos. En ella hay retratos y autorretratos de Dalí y los primeros proyectos teatrales de Lorca. De esta época (1925-26) es el "Cuaderno de los Putrefactos", una serie de láminas de grotescos personajes, dibujadas por Dalí y con textos de Lorca.
La segunda parte de la muestra refleja el momento de madurez de la amistad entre ambos.Y la tercera parte, nos enseña el
distanciamiento entre los dos artistas, causado por el acercamiento de Dalí al surrealismo.
La exposición se completa con la proyección del documental "Coloquio en la Residencia", dirigido por Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón.
A lo largo de los años, en Serrano han vivido personalidades
tan ilustres como Rubén Darío, Emilio Castelar, Manuel de
Falla, Cánovas del Castillo, etc. Una de sus zonas más características es la Plaza de Colón, que en la actualidad alberga los
Jardines del Descubrimiento y el Centro Cultural de la Villa.
The exhibition that we can view until 6 February at Madrid's CaixaForum in fact showcases the tempestuous relationship between a painter
who sometimes wanted to be a writer and a writer whose secret ambition was to paint. For six years they attempted to collaborate, although
their project was never fully consolidated and they were eventually estranged.
Con el tiempo, Serrano se ha convertido en el emblema del
Madrid más chic, al situarse en ella los comercios de las firmas de moda más prestigiosas, nacionales e internacionales,
así como joyerías, tiendas gourmet y hoteles y restaurantes
de lujo. Por lo que ha pasado a ser conocida como "la milla
de oro madrileña" junto con sus calles aledañas.
The first part of the exhibition makes reference to the encounter between both men.Here we find portraits and self-portraits by Dali and Lorca's
early theatrical projects. Dating from this time
(1925-26) is the "Notebook of the Putrids", a
series of plates featuring grotesque characters
drawn by Dali and with texts by Lorca.
Precisamente, el pasado 25 de septiembre, Serrano ha vuelto a ser protagonista al celebrarse la inauguración de la calle
tras su remodelación.Algo más que un "lavado de cara" con
el que el Ayuntamiento de la capital ha querido transformarla en un referente del Madrid del
siglo XXI.
In 1922, at the Students' Halls of Residence, the first encounter took place between these two uncontested geniuses of Spanish art,
Salvador Dali and Federico Garcia Lorca.A strong friendship was born of this, as well as an intellectual relationship.
The second part of the show reflects the period of
the friendship's maturity, and the third section
shows us the period when the two artists became
distanced from each other, caused by Dali's
dalliance with surrealism.
The exhibition is completed with the screening of
the documentary "Discussion in the Halls of
Residence" directed by Manuel Gutierrez Aragón.
As a consequence of Madrid's expansion works in the mid-19th
Century, the Salamanca District was created.The most noteworthy personages of the era established their residence here, in elegant and stately
buildings standing in its wide streets. One of these is calle Serrano, which
was originally called Narvaez boulevard, and only after the 1868 revolution did its name change to Serrano, in honour of Francisco Serrano y
Dominguez,the last president of the First Spanish Republic.The street ran
between Puerta de Alcala and avenida Concha Espina.
Illustrious personalities have lived in Serrano over the years, such as
Ruben Dario, Emilio Castelar, Manuel de Falla, Canovas del Castillo, etc.
One of its most characteristic zones is Plaza Colón, which is currently the
site of the Jardines del Descubrimiento and the Culture Centre of LaVilla.
Over time Serrano has become the emblem of chic Madrid, boasting the
most prestigious national and international fashion shops as well as jewellery shops, gourmet shops and luxury hotels and restaurants. It has thus
become known as "Madrid's Golden Mile", together with its contiguous
streets.
On 25 September, Serrano once again took centre stage with the inauguration of the street after being remodelled.This was something more than
a superficial cleanup, through which the capital's City Hall has decided
to transform it into the golden standard of 21st-Century Madrid.
A great party, attended by thousands of people, allowed us to view a calle
Serrano with more pedestrian space, new urban furniture, new lighting,
more trees and less traffic pressure.This is undoubtedly an added attraction that increases the pleasure of a day spent shopping or strolling along
this emblematic Madrid street.
Una gran fiesta, a la que asistieron miles de personas, permitió contemplar
una calle Serrano con más espacio para
los peatones, con un nuevo mobiliario
urbano, nueva iluminación, más arbolado y menor presión de tráfico. Sin
duda, un atractivo añadido para hacer
más agradable un día de compras o de
paseo por esta emblemática calle madrileña.
