Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I welcome you to our joint program this year in which we
have combined our Hispanic Ministry and On Fire with Faith
conferences. This program has been established as a means
for instructing the faithful and refreshing their faith. The
theme for this year’s program is: Casting the Nets of Mercy.
It should be an exciting venue in which there is collaboration
between our English-speaking and Spanish-speaking
participants.
The list of speakers this year includes, Hector Molina, a lay
Catholic speaker and apologist whom you may have heard
on SC Catholic Radio hosting the Catholic Answers program.
His is a presentation that you will not want to miss, and will long remember. Also
speaking will be Dr. Carole Eipers, Vice President, Executive Director of Catechetics for
William H. Sadlier, Inc., and twenty-plus year veteran of religious education on the parish
and archdiocesan level. You will be offered a number of breakout programs that will be
led by various Diocese of Charleston representatives. I urge you to make the most of
these opportunities.
I pray that you will benefit greatly by those to whom you will be exposed and from whom
you will learn. I especially pray that you will leave nourished and believing that you have
been sent to engage in the new evangelization. May this joint conference be the first of
many.

Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,
Les doy la bienvenida a nuestro programa este año en el que
combinamos la conferencia anual de la Escuela de la Fe del
Ministerio Hispano y la conferencia En Fuego Por la Fe.
Este programa ha sido establecido como medio de instruir a
los fieles y refrescar su fe. El lema de este año es: “Lanzando
las Redes de Misericordia,” debe ser una emocionante forma
de colaboración entre nuestros participantes que hablan inglés
y hablan español.
La lista de presentadores esta año incluye a Héctor Molina,
laico católico orador y apologista de quien quizá ya han oído
en la radio católica de SC que anfitriona el programa de Respuestas Católicas. No se
pierdan su presentación que recordaran por mucho tiempo... Se les ofrecerá varias divisiones de grupos dirigidos por representantes de la Diócesis de Charleston. Les exhorto
a aprovechar a lo máximo esta oportunidad.
Oro para que se beneficien grandemente de quienes estarán expuestos a aprender. Oro
especialmente para que se vayan alimentados, y con la certeza de haber sido enviados a
envolverse en la nueva evangelización. Que esta conferencia sea la primera de muchas.

Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Office of Catechesis and Christian Initiation, let me welcome
you to this exciting day. We have been holding On Fire W ith Faith (previously
Fire at the Beach) for several years now and in several locations. We are
excited to be in Columbia once again. We are also excited to be able to
‘rekindle’ the ‘fire’ after we had to postpone this event due to flooding last
Fall.
This biennial conference was started to remind us that, as Eucharistic people,
our Lord has called us, nourished us, and sent us into the world. As such, it
consists of sessions that are particularly applicable to catechetical ministry, but
also sessions that are intended to inspire all the faithful to live out the mission
of the Church. This year’s theme, Casting the Nets of Mercy, brings us in
close contact with that mission, especially as we celebrate the Jubilee Year of
Mercy. As Christians, we are called to constantly, always and everywhere,
proclaim the Good News of Christ Jesus and to show His mercy to all that we
encounter.
It is my sincere hope that in our brief time together, you will find both inspiration and practical guidance as we are once again sent forth to make Christ present in the world around us.
I also would like to take this opportunity to thank the Office of Hispanic Ministry for collaborating with us on this event. Today as we share this space,
grow in our faith, and worship together, let us remember that linguistic and
cultural differences are a cause for celebration. As we celebrate, then, the
richness of the Church, let us pray that the recognition of this richness will
always unite the Body of Christ in His infinite love and mercy.

Muy Estimados Estudiantes de la Escuela de la Fe,
Es un gusto poder estar juntos de nuevo en esta Segunda Conferencia Anual
2016 “Lanzando las Redes de Misericordia.” Les damos una cordial bienvenida también a los que aun no son estudiantes y vienen por primera vez.
Esta conferencia es parte de las tres requeridas dentro de los tres años de formación catequética. Ellas procuran ofrecerles herramientas practicas
para incrementar o llegar a una adhesión plena en el misterio de Jesucristo.
Primero para sus vidas personales, y para transmitirlo a quienes ustedes sirven
en sus hogares, trabajos, estudios, y si los tienen, también en el servicio
ministerial que rinden en sus parroquias.
Permitan que Cristo Maestro, obre en sus vidas y ábranse a la enseñanza que Él
les quiere regalar en esta conferencia, a través del conocimiento y madurez de
los presentadores de los diferentes talleres.
Exhortamos a los que vienen por primera vez, y a los ya estudiantes, a renovar
su compromiso de conocer mejor su fe a través de los cursos de la Escuela de
la Fe que se ofrecen durante el año en los diferentes centros alrededor de la
Diócesis.
Vayan a la mesa de la Escuela de la Fe que esta a la salida del Exhibit Hall
(salón grande) para recibir más información sobre los próximos cursos y para
saber que centro les queda mas cerca.
Agradecemos a la Ofician diocesana de Catequesis por colaborar con nosotros

Primera Lectura: Jer. 38, 4-6, 8-10
Durante el si o de Jerusalén, los jefes que tenían prisionero a Jeremías dijeron al rey: "Hay que matar a este hombre, porque las cosas que dice desmoralizan a los guerreros que quedan en esta ciudad y a todo el pueblo. Es evidente que no busca el bienestar del pueblo, sino su perdición". Respondió el
rey Sedecías: "Lo enen ya en sus manos y el rey no puede nada contra ustedes". Entonces ellos tomaron a Jeremías y, descolgándolo con cuerdas, lo
echaron en el pozo del príncipe Melquías, situado en el pa o de la prisión.
En el pozo no había agua, sino lodo, y Jeremías quedó hundido en el lodo.
Ebed-Mélek, el e ope, oficial de palacio, fue a ver al rey y le dijo: "Señor,
está mal hecho lo que estos hombres hicieron con Jeremías, arrojándolo al
pozo, donde va a morir de hambre". Entonces el rey ordenó a Ebed-Mélek:
"Toma treinta hombres con go y saca del pozo a Jeremías, antes de que
muera". Palabra de Dios.
