The wilderness is a demanding place for human life. Just trying to survive can seriously test our faith. In the Israelites’ journey away from a life of slavery and oppression, harsh conditions challenged their trust in the God who liberated them. But their transition brings them closer to God, and they are constantly reminded of the Lord’s gracious provision and nurturing. Good stewards believe the Lord’s presence transforms their own “wilderness” experiences into a place of divine mercy and nourishment. Reflect on your own “wilderness” experiences. How has God been present for you and nourished you in times of transition? WWW.SAINTWILLIAMS.ORG/EBV FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT Saint Vincent’s Corner In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives sight to the blind man. Through grace we are also transformed from not seeing, to seeing and then Jesus sends us to help others see and to believe. Through your almsgiving, you are giving signs of grace to others; far greater than you think. Know that your nickel, dime or quarter is multiplied by the coins placed in the St. Vincent de Paul collection. For more information about Saint Vincent de Paul, please visit www.svdprr.org. Words of Life When we see a neighbor who is created to the image and likeness of God, ought we not to say: Observe and see this creature, how he resembles the Creator? Should we not weep over him with love and bless him a thousand times? And why? For the love of him? No, for we know not whether he be worthy in himself; but why then? For the love of God who has made him to his own image and likeness, and consequently capable of participating in his goodness, in grace and in glory. The supreme love of the divine goodness of the heavenly Father consists in the perfection of the love of our brothers and companions. ~ Saint Francis de Sales (t 1622) FREQUENT NUMBERS/ NUMEROS FREQUENTES PASTORAL CARE Liturgy Divorce & Beyond Bereavement Ministry Hospital visit (English) Hospital visit (Español) Homebound (English) Homebound (Spanish) Nursing Home Ministry Debbie George Debbie George Debbie George Mary DiBonito Martha Estrada Mary Cavett Martha Estrada Azucena Overman 600-8158 600-8158 600-8158 934-3235 417-8722 388-0016 417-8722 627-6423 SPIRITUAL LIFE Eucharist Adoration Pilgrim Statue Our Lady of Grace Estatua Peregrina Praise & Worship Prayer Line Parish Bible Study Legion of Mary Karina Hernandez Debbie Davis Rosie Russi Les & Gabriele Miller Joan A. On this Sunday, we invite God to cure our blindness and our tendency to see only the appearance of things and people. Sin blinds us and we need to be freed from sin in order to see as God sees and live as God wills. Is there a person or situation in our life that we need to see differently? What new sight or what new insight is God wishing us to see? How is God working to heal blindness in us? Hobby Lobby Challenges HHS “Contraceptive Mandate” Hobby Lobby is challenging the legality of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regulation that forces virtually all employers to include in their employee health plans coverage of sterilization, contraceptives, and drugs and devices that may cause abortions, as well as related education and counseling. As the US Conference of Catholic Bishops explained in its amicus brief, it opposes "any rule that would require faithful Catholics and other religiously motivated business owners to choose between providing coverage for products and speech that violate their religious beliefs, and exposing their businesses to devastating penalties. These penalties include "potentially fatal fines" of $100 a day per affected individual. Prayers—Please pray for wisdom for the Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court who heard oral arguments for the landmark case of Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores on March 25 (the Feast Day of the Annunciation). To learn more about the mandate, go to the USCCB’s—HHS Mandate Fact Sheets and Statements located at: www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/religious-liberty/hhs-mandate/hhs-mandate-fact-sheets-andstatements.cfm Prayer Request Please pray for mercy, healing, forgiveness and peace for the convicted killers, their victims, and the families.
