On Friday October 13,
1972, a plane from Uruguay,
carrying 45 passengers to
Chile, crashed in the Andes.
Many of them were students
and players in a rugby team.
After being isolated
from everything for 72 days,
on December 22, 1972, the world found out that
sixteen of them had died. The others had
survived by eating the flesh of the dead
comrades. A shocking situation but necessary
for survival. In their declarations, they stated
that with all due respect to their dead comrades,
they did so by way of Eucharistic Communion in
which Christ invites us to eat his body.
When Jesus says to the Jews that those
who eat His flesh and drink His blood has eternal
life, I'm sure they were shocked and thought that
He was inviting them to a horrendous act of
cannibalism, yet in fact, when we receive the
Communion is not a symbolic representation of
the Body and Blood of Jesus. There is no need
for hosts, or laboratory tests to believe in this
divine event, but rather faith.
It is said that we are what we eat. That is,
that if we eat junk food, we will not be as healthy
as if we eat nutritious food. The truth is that we
obtain vitamins, proteins and nutrients from the
food we eat. Hopefully when we consume the
body and blood of Christ, we will come to say, as
Saint Paul says: ¨It is no longer I who lives, but
Christ who lives in me¨.
In Jewish tradition, drinking from the
same cup, means accepting to share the same
fate, to seal a commitment with who your drink
with. That's why in Jewish weddings the bride
and groom devote themselves to drink from the
same cup, which they later break, meaning they
have made a pact that no one else will intervene.
Communion with Christ means accepting
his own destiny, to live his own way, to love as
He loves and be willing to die with Him, in order
to resurrect with Him. To accept to be One with
Him, to be part of His Mystical Body which is the
Church, in which there are many members with
different functions, but we accept to live in the
unity of his love.

muchos
eran
estudiantes y jugadores de un
equipo de rugby, se estrelló en
la Cordillera de los Andes. El
22 de diciembre de 1972,
después de haber estado durante 72 días aislados de
todo, el mundo se entera que dieciséis vencieron a la
muerte teniendo que comer la carne de los
compañeros fallecidos en el accidente. Situación
impactante pero necesaria para sobrevivir. En sus
declaraciones, dijeron que con todo respeto a sus
compañeros difuntos lo hicieron a manera de la
Comunión Eucarística en la que Cristo nos invita a
comer su cuerpo para tener vida.
Cuando Jesucristo declara ante los Judíos
que el que come su carne y bebe su sangre tendrá
vida eternal, estoy seguro que se escandalizaron
pensando que los estaba invitando a un horrendo
acto de canibalismo y sin embargo, efectivamente, al
comulgar comemos su cuerpo y bebemos su sangre,
no una representación simbólica de ello. No
necesitamos hostias sangrantes, ni pruebas de
laboratorio para creer en este acontecimiento divino,
sino la fe.
Se dice que somos lo que comemos. Es decir,
que si comemos comida chatarra, no estaremos tan
saludables como si comemos comida nutritiva. Lo
cierto es que asumimos las vitaminas, proteínas y los
nutrientes de los alimentos que consumimos que
pasan a ser parte de nuestro organismo. Ojalá que al
consumir el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, lleguemos
a decir como San Pablo: ¨Ya no soy yo el que vive ,
sino Cristo que vive en mi¨.
En la tradición Judía, beber de una misma
copa, significa aceptar el compartir el mismo destino,
sellar un compromiso con quien se bebe. Es por eso
que las bodas judías se consagran al beber los novios
de la misma copa que luego la rompen, significando
que han sellado un pacto y que nadie más ha de
intervenir para su cumplimiento.
Comulgar con Cristo, significa aceptar su
propio destino, vivir a su manera, amar como El ama
y estar dispuesto a morir con El, para poder resucitar
con El. Aceptar ser Uno con El, ser parte de su
Cuerpo Místico que es la Iglesia, en la cual, hay
muchos miembros con funciones diferentes, pero que
aceptamos vivir en la unidad de su amor.

MAY 30. MEMORIAL DAY.Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States
for remembering the people who died while serving in
the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is
observed every year on the last Monday of May,
originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil
War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an
organization of Union veterans founded in Decatur,
Illinois, established it as a time for the nation to
decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers By
the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate
holiday traditions, celebrated on different days, had
merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor
all Americans who died while in the military service. It
typically marks the start of the summer vacation
season, while Labor Day marks its end.
MISSION OF GUADALUPE
The Guadalupe Mission is taking place in Our
Community Parish, including Bridgeport and Lee
Vining.
Each week a new family will take with them the
Pilgrim Image of the Virgin of Guadalupe and take
it home, where all the neighbors will be invited to
participate in the Rosary and taught the subjects of
evangelization for a few missionaries to accompany
the family during the week. On Friday’s, Father
Jorge will celebrate Mass in that house and there
will be fellowship. This family will deliver the image
to a new family. It will be accompanied during the
week by other missionaries.

30 DE MAYO. DIA MEMORIAL.El Día de los caídos en guerra o Memorial Day
es una fecha conmemorativa de carácter
federal que tiene lugar en los Estados Unidos de
América el último lunes de mayo de cada año,
con el objeto de recordar a los soldados
estadounidenses que murieron en combate.
Inicialmente fue establecido para conmemorar
a los soldados caídos de la Unión americana que
participaron en la Guerra Civil estadounidense,
aunque tras la primera guerra mundial fue
extendido para rendir homenaje a todos los
soldados estadounidenses fallecidos en las
guerras en las que participó ese país.
MISION GUADALUPANA
La Misión Guadalupana se está llevando a
cabo en Nuestra Comunidad Parroquial, incluyendo
Bridgeport y Lee Vining.
Cada semana una nueva Familia recogerá
el Cuadro de la Virgen Peregrina y la llevará a su
casa donde todos los vecinos serán invitados para
que participen del Santo Rosario y de los temas de
Evangelización impartidos por un par de Misioneros
que acompañarán a la Familia durante la Semana.
Los Viernes, El Padre Jorge celebrará la Santa Misa
en esa casa y habrá convivio. Esta Familia entregará
la Imagen a otra nueva Familia que será
acompañada durante la semana por otros
misioneros.

35 ANNIVERSARY OF PRIESTHOOD.On Monday, June 6, Fr. Jorge Román will be
celebrating 35 years of Fr. Jorge Roman´s
ordination. For this reason, the 6 p.m. Mass will be
bilingual to accompany Fr. Jorge to give thanks to
God for his priesthood. After Mass, we will have a
potluck to enjoy the delicious dishes that you will
provide.
CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN.Next week, we will take up the Collection for the
Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). This collection
communicates the Gospel through Catholic social media
activities and enriches our faith through podcasts, television,
radio, and print media.
Please be generous in next week’s collection and
support this important work. Remember, half of your
donation stays in our diocese to support local
communication needs. The CCC is how we share our
experience of faith, worship, and witness.

de la ordenación Sacerdotal del Padre Jorge
Román, por eso la Misa de 6 p.m. será Bilingüe
para acompañarlo a dar gracias a Dios por su
Sacerdocio. Luego de la Misa, tendremos un
convivio en el estacionamiento para disfrutar de
los deliciosos platillos que tú vas a traer.
CAMPAÑA CATÓLICA DE LA COMUNICACIÓN.La próxima semana realizaremos la Colecta para la
Campaña Católica de la Comunicación (CCC). Esta colecta
comunica el Evangelio a través de actividades en los medios
sociales católicos y enriquece nuestra fe a través de los medios,
la televisión, la radio y la prensa escrita.
Por favor, sean generosos en la colecta de la próxima
semana y den su apoyo a esta importante labor. Recuerden que
la mitad de sus donaciones permanece en nuestra diócesis para
financiar las necesidades locales en el campo de la
comunicación. A través de la CCC es como compartimos
nuestra experiencia de fe, veneración y testimonio.
