Circus of Comissura is a knickersless trapeze artist, an unfaithful percusionist (betrayal or right to one's
own privacy?), a waxed woman drowned in 20 litres of wax, an enriched poor man (necessity or
insatiability?)...
Comissura, a circus whose drama is presented with exposure of 7 clown numbers. It talks about the
pressure other people put on one's own body, about our inability to tell need from insatiability, about murder
and maternal instinct (or how the society of consummation makes us devour our children), about the pulse
and the defeat caused by our own momentum, about the beauty in heartbreak (much beauty in heartbreak),
about pessimism as action used to affect the people looking, about jealousy and the confusion between
treason and people’s right to privacy.
Comissura connects us to the melancholy of recognizing that we live with joy, and the strangeness that
assumes the existence, contradictions, mixed and subtle feelings. The corners, the commissure.
Patrícia Pardo’s works are dramatic creations that develop a research project on the coexistence of
conventional clown expression (the existing language) and contemporary expression (the imagined), using
any artistic tool even though they do not fit conservative parameters of theatre and circus.
This mix of classic and contemporary traits means:
- Use of physical and technical abilities or use of gag as a means, as metaphor, and not a means
to an end
- Research on the composition of live music
- Interpretive break between character-artist
- Transgression of form and content propieties
- Wonder where the current « even more difficult » is ?
