It was just a few days off in the beautiful city of Las Vegas to relax and find what more oddities of
human creation this city has come up with; Vegas never disappoints. While traveling on the Deuce (the local bus system) we passed
a tattoo parlor; not just any emporium of permanent penmanship that paints pictures to pizzazz the pallid skin, but one called “Sacred
Heart Tattoos.” Unfortunately the next bus stop was too far away from the Sacred Heart Tattoo shop to trot back, so I took the trouble
to do an internet search. I don’t want to cause a panic and have everyone rush to their cars but there is a Sacred Heart Tattoo
Emporium in Lincoln Nebraska! It also has body piercing; but of course, who would want a Sacred Heart that has not been
pierced? I suspect they are referring to piercing other parts of the body besides the heart, but for us Catholics the lance in the side of
Jesus piercing His heart is very doctrinal. The internet also assures us that there are a string of Sacred Heart Tattoo parlors in the
United States, beginning with a big one in Atlanta, Georgia.
Who would pick the name Sacred Heart for a tattooing and body piercing enterprise; there are so many other good names:
“Pins and Needles Tattooing,” “Infection Reflections,” “Shaky Pete’s Piercings,” “Puncture Graphics,” just to name a few. If I may
theorize here, please note that each Sacred Heart Tattoo parlor is found in the major city of a diocese; the name is just too
Catholic. Las Vegas, Lincoln, Atlanta are all dioceses; is it possible that the bishops of these dioceses have found another way to
support their ecclesiastical ministries? Are bishops of the United States supporting their dioceses by running commercial enterprises
involving body art and elective surgery (body piercing)? Well, it’s only a theory but there are coincidences that make one
wonder. Sacred Heart Tattoos began operation in Lincoln at about the time Bishop Fabian Bruskewicz was ordained bishop of that
diocese; sadly the shop is now closed, but closed on the very day that Bishop Bruskewicz retired. I’m just saying…
On this Sunday of the Holy Trinity we celebrate something beyond human creation; indeed the eternal Trinity is the source of
creation. The Holy Trinity is also intimate with creation, beyond creation and the goal of creation. Three Persons, One God. These
days we often dismiss what we do not understand, so why even meditate on a reality we cannot hope to know fully? Does a parent
understand fully his or her love for the child, or the child for his or her parents? Isn’t it enough to realize the love and live in its
warmth? Father Rector

Our parish has been blessed to have a sponsor for our website
for the past five years and their commitment is up this summer.
We are hoping that some one would step forward and help with
the $38 a month maintenance fee for our site.
This could be one or two family’s or one or two business. The
commitment could be 1 year or 2 years. The company that we
have does several of the Churches in our Diocese.
The website has our schedule of Masses, meetings or

Central Catholic : Grand Island Central Catholic Hires New Principal
Kristen Klein, a business teacher at Grand
Island Senior High, who holds a Master of
Arts in Education Administration, was hired
as principal at Grand Island Central
Catholic School. She will begin her new
duties June 1, 2016.
Before teaching business classes, Klein
also served as a School Interventionist at
Grand Island Senior High School.
Bishop Joseph Hanefeldt, a member of the Corporate Board of
Grand Island Central Catholic School, said “Mrs. Klein will join
GICC Superintendent Steve Osborn on
our administrative team. Collaboratively, the two will fulfill our
school’s mission in our continual quest for excellence.”
Cultivating a collaborative academic environment of
high-achievement, as well as ensuring the rigor, relevance and
student-centered nature of instructional strategies will be among
Klein’s focus.
“Klein exudes an air of confidence and infuses vitality into any
conversation,” Bishop Hanefeldt said with a smile. “She will
challenge our teaching staff with her dynamic leadership, both
supporting and stretching them, and will assist them in the
mission that is Catholic Education.”
"I am thrilled to be a part of a school and diocese that embraces
forward thinking. I am especially looking forward to collaborating
with the people who will continue to support this school and its
students,” Klein said regarding her new position.
“She not only brings a wealth of knowledge and understanding of
current trends in education, but she is especially enthusiastic
about her Catholic faith. She has an integrity that is rooted in
discipleship, and this is precisely the witness and example
that students in a Catholic school need to experience,” Bishop
Hanefeldt said.
Grand Island Central Catholic School is committed to excellence
in academic achievement, Christian values formation, athletics,
fine arts, and community service. Above all, the school is
dedicated to producing well-rounded individuals who will become
strong community leaders of tomorrow.
Prior to working in Grand Island’s public school system, Klein was
the Assistant Program Coordinator for the William H. Thompson
Scholars Learning Community at the University of Nebraska at
Lincoln. She also served as a Graduate Assistant for the College
of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources with a special
interest in Entrepreneurial Leadership.
Klein grew up in Gering, Nebraska, and attended Christ the King
Parish there. Currently, she and her husband Brett are members
of Resurrection Parish in Grand Island.

News/Spiritual
Today Readings
First Reading — Before anything was created, the wisdom of
God was brought forth (Proverbs 8:22-31).
Second Reading — God’s love has been poured out into our
hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us (Romans
5:1-5).
Gospel — Everything that the Father has is mine; the Spirit will
take from what is mine and declare it to you (John 16:12-15).
Thoughts: JOURNEY OF FAITH
We are on a long and eventful journey. Today’s readings for
Trinity Sunday succinctly cover the depth and breadth of our
human travels.
The very beginnings of our journey are revealed in the
reading from Proverbs. God’s plan filled with divine wisdom was
born before the earth was made. In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks
of his own personal journey. He has come from the Father and
will return to the Father. Only then will the Advocate—the Spirit of
Truth—take us onward.
This does not diminish the fact that the journey will be hard.
The very setting of the Gospel is the night before Jesus died. As
Saint Paul writes to the Romans, “[W]e even boast of our
afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and
endurance, proven character, and proven character,
hope” (Romans 5:3-4).
Ultimately, our human journey is modeled by the Holy
Trinity—a family of love among Father, Son, and Spirit that we are
all called to emulate.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Around the turn of the fourth century, Augustine, still fairly
fresh from the baptismal waters in Milan, was elected bishop of a
tiny city in North Africa, Hippo. He told his people, “While I am
frightened by what I am for you, then I am consoled by what I am
with you. For you I am a bishop, with you I am a Christian.” He
had his priorities right, and also knew that everyone coming from
the water arises with a ministry, a specific role, in bringing about
God’s kingdom.
If we were asked to purge English of Greek vocabulary, we
would gain an insight into key ministries in our church. Bishop,
from the Greek episkopos, would become simply “overseer;”
priest, from the Greek presybter, would become “elder;” and
deacon, from the Greek diakonos, would be “servant.” Each title
stands in relationship to all the baptized, serving the community,
helping it to be the Body of Christ. In our deepest tradition, each
of these ordained ministries is attuned to help us become our best
selves, to hunger and thirst for the coming of God’s kingdom. The
goal for each one of us is to be able to recognize the presence of
Christ in worship and in service. Although only some of us are
ordained to ministry, each of us is called to ministry.

Corpus Christi: The Body and Blood of Christ
The Eucharistic Procession for the feast of Corpus Christi is a time when our Lord in the Blessed
Sacrament is exposed not just to faithful Catholics but to all the world. This is a time when Catholics can
show their love for Christ in the Real Presence by honoring Him in a very public way.
The full name of this feast is Corpus et Sanguis Christi or The Body and Blood of Christ. The feast of the
Blessed Sacrament was established in 1246 by Bishop Robert de Thorte of Liege at the suggestion of
St. Juliana of Mont Carvillon. It was extended to the universal Church by Pope Urban in 1264. The office
composed by St. Thomas Aquinas and customary procession was approved by Popes Martin V and
Eugene IV. It is celebrated the first Sunday after the feast of the Trinity.
