YWCA Lake County Parent Services & Family Management programs help parents build strong families and launch their
children on the path to successful lives. Through parenting and life-skills education, literacy programs and supportive
services, we empower families to build the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to overcome barriers and prepare
their children for success in school and life.
Customized Child Care Referrals:
Parents can call (877) 675-7992 to inquire about the IL Department of Human Services Child Care Assistance Program.
Income eligible parents could receive assistance paying for child care while they work or attend school.
Developmental Screenings
Developmental screenings use the Ages and Stages Questionnaire to ensure that your child is reaching developmental
milestones. Each questionnaire covers five key areas of development: communication, gross motor skills, fine motor skills,
problem solving, and personal-social. Parents will participate in all aspects of screening and be directed to early intervention
services if any signs of a possible developmental delay are detected. If you would like to schedule a screening,

Social-Emotional Screening
The Social– Emotional screening focuses on the setting and time, development, health, and family culture when assessing
social and emotional competence. The Ages and Stages Questionnaire SE acknowledges that children’s behavior is different
across different environments. This instrument can reflect the emotional and social competence of infants, toddlers and

Teen Mom’s Program
Today’s parents face pressure from every direction. Sometimes, it’s even hard for
adults to cope. The YWCA offers young mothers a personal mentor to help them
prepare the best life possible for themselves and their babies. Mentors guide teens
on their road to self-sufficiency by helping them address their housing, education,
parenting skills, employment and financial planning. We help them strengthen the
support mechanisms with their extended families and the
community at large. Dates: Mondays - April 11, May 9, and June 13, 2016

“Read for Joy” The Baby TALK Model – For parents with children 0-3 years old
Baby TALK (Teaching Activities for Learning and Knowledge) is a community
family support model which provides the framework to guide parents in nurturing
school readiness and child development by supporting infants and toddlers and

La Asociación de Salud Respiratoria ofrece presentaciones
sobre las nuevas leyes de Illinois de radón y leyes para los

Trainings locations are at the YWCA unless otherwise specified
Registration and payment must be made at least 24 hours in advance for guaranteed admission into class.
An additional $3.00 late fee will be assessed for payments made at the door the day of the training.
Please arrive 15 Minutes before class starts, Participants over 15 minutes late will not be admitted nor receive certificates of
attendance.
Class sizes are limited to 30 participants.
The YWCA does not keep change on hand. Please pay with check, credit card, money order, or bring exact change.
There will be absolutely no refunds.
The YWCA Lake County strives to create an environment that supports adult learning. For that reason, children are not permitted
in trainings. Please make arrangements so that you may attend.
Replacement certificates will have a charge of $3.00 per certificate.
DTP transcripts will be issued at the request of individual participants and will be released only to the individual to ensure
confidentiality. There will be a $3.00 charge per transcript.

DESCRIPTION
Participants will gain an understanding of how to vary,
modify, and adapt physical activity and motor skill
development to different ability levels in young children.
We will learn how to design and structure the
environment to include ALL young children. Working on
strategies that increase skills, development, and
physical activity. Participation for ALL young children is
one of our objectives for this training.
Are you interested in improving health for the children in
your care? Join us for a series of 4 trainings that will
encourage: Nutritional Quality of Food Served, Amount
and Quality of Physical Activity, Staff-Child Interactions,
Facility Nutrition and Physical Activity Policies and
Practices and Technical Assistance and Consultation.
***Participants must attend all sessions to
receive .5 of a point in Health, Safety and wellbeing
for the ECE Credential.
Emotional literacy is the ability to identify, understand,
and express emotions in a healthy way. Participants will
learn how a strong foundation in emotional literacy
affects a child. They will participate in various activities
and be given ideas to help promote social literacy in
their classrooms.
In this training, teachers will learn how to develop and
teach expectations for children’s behavior, how to
create classroom rules, redirect behavior, and help
children problem solve. Participants will get the chance
to work through various scenarios in regards to
challenging behavior and will be given tips for
successful classroom management.
(Recommended for all new or prospective child
care providers) Learn how to begin your business and
about services available to you as a new child care
provider. Gather information on contracts, policies,
insurance, food programs, the Child Care Assistance
Program (subsidy), the YWCA Lake County CCR&R
Resource and referral services.

Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) is designed to
help child care directors and infant/toddler care
teachers become sensitive to infants' cues, connect
with their family and culture, and develop responsive,
relationship-based care. This training takes an
in-depth look at cognitive and social-emotional
development, encouraging growth within daily routines
and tips on setting up appropriate environments for
experienced infant and toddler professionals.

The Illinois Department of Human Services Child Care
Assistance Program – helps pay for child care
expenses for income-eligible families who work or go
to approved school or training. Participants will gain
knowledge related to provider qualification, application
process, payment process, parent co-payments, and
other issues.

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the sudden
death of an infant under 1 year of age which still
remains unexplained. Come to this training to learn
ways in which you can reduce the risk of SIDS and
provide a safe environment for infants in your
childcare.

developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) as well as
recognize the importance of DAP when caring for

The Respiratory Health Association is currently
offering presentations about the new Illinois Radon
and Daycare laws and while supplies last, this
association is also providing test kits for home
daycares for free. Radon presentations cover an
overview of what radon is, where it comes from, how
it causes lung cancer, how it enters a building/home,
how to test for it, and what to do if one finds radon in
their building/home. Asthma management is a
program delivered by community health educators for
daycare providers, teachers, school staff, parent
groups, bus drivers, and any other caregivers or
community members.

ExceleRate Illinois is the new quality rating and
improvement system for licensed child care centers,
Head Start, and Preschool for All programs. This
orientation provides child care centers an overview of
the goals, quality indicators, benefits of participation,
application process, and the system supports
available for success at reaching each Circle of
Quality.
One of the distinguishing characteristics of
high-quality early childhood programs is their ability to
adapt to change. This training will explore the concept
of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) as an
essential component of first-rate programs. Through
discussion and group activities, participants will learn
the key features of this leadership philosophy, the
steps in the CQI process, and how to create a
Continuous Quality Improvement Plan (CQIP) to
guide.
The director of the YWCA CCR&R, Provider
Services, and Training and Education will meet
with Center Directors to give an update on
information relating to: Continuous Quality and
Improvement, ExceleRate, Annual Child Care
Conference, upcoming trainings and CCAP.
This training reviews child growth and development in
early childhood environments. A review of several
commercial screening tools is discussed to allow child
care practitioners more options on monitoring a
child's typical development. Case studies provide
hands-on learning for the participant on use of a
developmental screening tool and guidelines for
referral to an early intervention program.
