Dear St. Matthew Parishioners, Families and Friends,
As another school year begins, I’m reminded of where we’ve
just been, what’s happening now, and where we’re going….
Where we’ve just been…
The 2014-15 school year began with the wonderful celebratory
opening of our McGuire Gymnasium. This beautiful addition to our
campus provides a state-of-the-art, clean, safe environment where
our children can learn, gather, and grow and is a wonderful
representation of the generosity and dedication of so many
members of our school and parish community.
We bid a fond farewell to our class of 2015 who are beginning
the next chapter in their lives. Amid the blue gowns, smiles and
tears, I’m sure there were reflections of their time here and an
optimism of the future. Over the past nine years I have been
witness to these students displaying their strengths and abilities in
many different venues, and I have been thoroughly impressed.
They are a remarkable class. May God bless them in their future
endeavors.
What’s happening now…We look forward to continuing a high
standard of excellence as we move into the 2015-16 school year
with a focus on:

Dear St. Matthew Parishioners, Families and Friends,
(cont’d)
Implementation of California Common Core English language arts (ELA) and math allowing for activitybased curriculum throughout the subject areas
• Extended student engaged learning with the creation of our eLab
• Technology in the classrooms with the addition of two more class sets of iPads and portable carts
• Interactive science lab projects
• “Families” of students from grades one through eight collaborating with and mentoring each other. .Most
importantly, we are reminded by our school theme this year that God is our core:
“Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them,”
Matthew 18-20.
Where we’re going… The school supplies are securely placed in the backpacks by the front door. Uniforms are
waiting to be worn with pride. The first day of school arrives on Tuesday, filled with anticipation and
excitement! The campus looks beautiful a welcome site for our 600 students arriving this week. Its’ been too
quiet around here! I’ll leave you with this verse for everyone to enjoy.

Twas the Night Before School Started
Author Unknown
‘Twas
the night before school started,
When all through the town,
The parents were cheering
It was a riotous sound!
By eight, kids were washed
And tucked into bed…
when memories of homework
Filled them with dread.
New pencils, new folders, new notebooks, too!
New teachers, new friends
Their anxiety grew!..
The parents just giggled when
They learned of this fright
And shouted upstairs
“Go to bed! It’s a School night!”
Blessings,

mediante Jesucristo y el Espíritu Santo (cf. 1 Co 1:18-25, 2:6-10; Rom 16:25-27;
Ap 10:7).
limitaciones normales.

Gentleness
Feelings are everywhere —be gentle.
-J. Massai
GOD’S WORD TODAY
Decisions. Life is filled
with them. Decisions are
presented in the first
reading and Gospel proclaimed today. The Israelites are asked to choose
whether or not they will
continue to serve the Lord,
the God of Israel. In voicing their choice to continue serving the Lord, they
call to mind all the wonderful things that God
had done for them. The
disciples in today’s Gospel reading are also
faced with a choice.
Many choose to turn
away from Jesus because
his invitation to eat his
body and drink his blood
is too hard a saying. Pe-
ter and the Twelve, when
asked if they, too, would
abandon Jesus respond,
“Master, to whom shall we
go? You have the words
of eternal life.” We, in a
way, repeat these words
every time we come to
Mass, for in fact there is
nowhere else we can go
to be fed by the body
and blood of the Lord
and hear words that will
bring us eternal life. Remembering all the wonderful things that God has
done for us, we choose to
come to Mass to give
thanks and praise to God.

LA PALABRA DE DIOS
HOY
Decisiones. La vida está
llena de ellas. La primera
lectura y el Evangelio que
se proclaman hoy nos
presentan un número de
decisiones. A los israelitas se
les preguntó si querían
servir al Señor, el Dios de
Israel, o no. Al responder
que continuarían sirviendo al
Señor, ellos recuerdan todos
los prodigios que hizo Dios
por ellos. Los discípulos en el
Evangelio de hoy también
se enfrentan con una
decisión. Muchos deciden
alejarse de Jesús, pues la
invitación que él les hace de
comer su cuerpo y beber su
sangre les suena muy difícil.
Cuando Jesús le pregunta a
los Doce si ellos también
quieren abandonarlo, Pedro
♥
responde por todos
diciendo: “Señor, ¿a quién
iremos? Tú tienes palabras
de vida eterna”. También
nosotros, de cierta manera,
repetimos esas mismas
palabras cada vez que
venimos a Misa, pues no hay
en verdad otro lugar donde
podemos ir a recibir el
alimento del Cuerpo y la
Sangre del Señor, y
escuchar palabras que nos
dan la vida eterna. Nuestra

Iglesia. (CIC-1497)
