We are all saddened to hear the news of the death of
MSGR. JAMES GOTIMER, retired pastor of
SAINT BARTHOLOMEW PARISH. for more than 60
years Msgr. served the Diocese of Brooklyn as a faithful
priest of Jesus Christ. He served the people of Elmhurst
for more than 20 years and left a wonderful parish to
Fr. Hoffman in 1998. Fr. Gildea and I were honored to
visit him this past May and offer our prayers and best
wishes to him on the occasion of his anniversary of
priesthood. Msgr. Gotimer fondly recalled his days as
pastor here and asked about the health and well being of
many of our current long time parishioners. Join me in
praying that the Lord will receive this faithful servant into
the arms of His mercy and love.
REST IN PEACE MSGR GOTIMER!

Todos estamos muy triste al enterarnos de la noticia del
fallecimiento del Msgr. James Gotimer, Párroco jubilado
de la Parroquia de San Bartolomé. Por más de 60 años
Monseñor Gotimer sirvió en la Diócesis de Brooklyn
como un fiel sacerdote de Jesucristo. El les sirvió a la
comunidad de Elmhurst por más de 20 años y le dejo una
maravillosa parroquia al Padre Hoffman en 1998. Padre
Gildea y yo tuvimos el honor de visitarlo este Mayo
pasado para ofrecerle nuestras oraciones y mejores
intenciones en la ocasión de su aniversario en el
sacerdocio. Monseñor Gotimer cariñosamente recordaba
sus días aquí como Párroco y preguntaba de la salud y
bienestar de muchos de los parroquianos corriente igual
que los de mucho tiempo. Únanse con migo en oración
que el Señor reciba este siervo fiel en sus brazos de
misericordia y amor.

We join in prayer with the Filipino people mourning the loss of life and property from last week's typhoon.
The Philippines and its people will need a lot of support in the days, weeks and months ahead. As a parish we will do
what we can to bring assistance and aid to those most in need. All monies from next Sundays Line Dancing will go to
a diocese most in need in the Philippines. We will also send 50% of our collection on Thanksgiving Day to assist
those most in need. I am certain that in the coming weeks we will be doing even more as a parish and a diocese. But
for now, we will do what we can. Most of all lets remember to pray for those who lost so much.
Last weekend, lay leaders spoke at all the masses about the finances of our parish and some ways we might all help in
giving more in the Sunday collection. This weekend, the parish priests will be speaking as well, urging all of us to
truly sacrifice in our parish giving. Thanks be to God we are doing better and on the right track - but - we can do
more. Every little bit helps. Think about how much you could increase what you give each week. Even $1 - which
today can't buy much would be a great help. If we all could make a $1 to $3 increase in what we give each week our
parish would be able to quickly pay off the debt and focus on programs for youth and education.
Next weekend we will be asking you to seriously make a decision- how much more can I sacrifice to my
parish? $1 more? $2 more $3 more?? Working together we will do great things!! Thanks for all you do!!
Nos unimos en oración con la comunidad Filipina por la pérdida de vida y propiedad del tifón de la semana pasada.
Las Filipinas y su gente van a necesitar mucho apoyo en los próximos días, semanas y meses. Como una parroquia
vamos hacer todo lo que podamos para llevarles asistencia y auxilio a todos los más necesitados. Todo el dinero
colectado del Grupo de Baile en Línea será enviado a una Diócesis necesitada en las Filipinas. También enviaremos
50% de nuestra colecta del Día de Acción de Gracias para asistir aquellos más necesitados. Yo estoy seguro que en
las próximas semanas vamos hacer mucho mas como parroquia y Diócesis. Por ahora, vamos hacer lo que podamos.
Más que todo acordemos en oración a todos que perdieron tanto.
El fin de semana pasado, los líderes laicos hablaron en todas las misas sobre las finanzas de nuestra parroquia y
algunas maneras en que todos podemos ayudar dar más en la Colecta Dominical. Este fin de semana, los sacerdotes
parroquiales hablaran también, pidiendo que todos hagamos un gran sacrificio para la parroquia. Gracias a Dios
estamos mejor que antes y en una buena vía – pero – podemos hacer más. Cada pocito ayuda. Piense en cuanto
podría aumentar en lo que está dando cada semana. Hasta $1 A $3 de aumento en lo que está dando semanalmente
nuestra parroquia podría rápidamente pagar su deuda y enfocarse en los programas para los jóvenes y educación.

Our annual Thanksgiving Day
mass will take place on

in the main church. The mass

conclude
with
the

celebrated in English and
Spanish.
SCHOOL OF THE NEW
EVANGELIZATION
We are happy to announce that our
parish will soon be offering an 8 week
leadership course that all lay leaders
and future leaders will need to
participate and complete in order to
be a group parish leader. This will
be a wonderful opportunity to grow in
the knowledge of your faith as well as
learn the abilities to effectively share
it with others. All group leaders will
soon be receiving a letter from the
parish priests inviting the to the
information day. Other parishioners
will also be receiving a letter
personally inviting them to become
parish leaders and take this course.
The course will be given by the parish
staff and will be offered in English
and Spanish. Please pray for its success.

MAT FLOW GROUP
The Mat Flow Group now takes
places every Monday beginning at 8 p.m. in Heafey Hall
(room under the chapel church)

Everyone is invited to attend –
if you don’t have a mat we will
provide one for you. We pray;
we do yoga exercises and we
have lots of fun. Open to all
men and women of the parish

we will have some leisure time
(weather permitting) to walk a
bit in the city and finish our day
visiting the Christmas tree in
Rockefeller Center. Total cost

MASS IN BENGALI
Over 100 people attended this
month’s first mass in Bengali.
We are off to a great start. The
next mass in Bengali will take
place on Sunday, December 8
at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel.
Confessions will be heard from
4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the
chapel. Fr Nirmal Costa our
new parochial vicar will
celebrate the mass. Following
the mass there will be
refreshments in Heafey Hall.
The Bangladeshi and Indian
community invite all those who
speak Bengali to attend this
mass. Fr Nirmal offers the
9 a.m. mass in English every
Tuesday in the chapel and is
available in the parish office to
speak to anyone.

CHOIR EVENING
OF PRAYER
This Wednesday, November
20 the English Choir will
participate in an evening of
prayer given by Fr Rick in
Heafey Hall. If you like to sing,
and have a decent voice,
consider joining our English
choir. They practice every
Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 pm
in Heafey Hall and sing every
Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in the
chapel. Come to the evening of
prayer this week - it will be a
great way to start.
GROUP LEADERS
MEETING
Next Monday November 25
the parish staff will have a
meeting with all group leaders
beginning at 6:30 pm in Heafey
Hall.
The purpose of the
meeting is to review the
success of the parish ministry
day in October and talk about
the next stepson getting more
of our parishioners involved in
the life of our parish. We will
also discuss the transition of
making the group leaders
members of the Parish Pastoral
Council.
This is a very
important meeting-every group
needs to be represented.

MISA EN BENGALI
Más de 100 personas asistieron en la
primera en bengalí este mes. Es un
buen comienzo. La próxima misa en
bengalí tendrá lugar el domingo, 8 de

Hall y cantan cada domingo en
la misa de las 11:30 A.M. en la
