The city of San Luis Potosi located in the plains of north central Mexico, is the capital and
most populous city in the state of San Luis Potosí. With a metropolitan area (San Luis Potosi
& Soledad de Graciano Sanchez) of 1,777 square kilometers and a population of 1,040,443
inhabitants (2010) it is considered the 10th largest Mexican city.
The city is considered one of the most important industrial and logistic centers in Mexico due
to its privileged location, with a distance less than 350 miles from Mexico´s 3 biggest cities
(Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico city), and within 500 miles to the US border as well as
four of the country´s biggest ports (Manzanillo and Lazaro Cardenas at the Pacific ocean,
Altamira and Veracruz at the Gulf of Mexico).

Besides its industry, the city is also a great touristic destination in Mexico thanks to its wonderful
historic and UNESCO’s world heritage site downtown that displays a great mixture of baroque
and neoclassical style churches and buildings as a major example of colonial architecture in
Mexico. San Luis Potosi is today a thriving city in constant growth and development.

The city of San Luis Potosi alone has an estimated population in 2012 of 789,923 inhabitants,
according to the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (INEGI).

• Economic outlook
The state of San Luis Potosi occupies the 17th largest economy of the 32 entities in Mexico,
measured by the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) generated in 2009, which represented the
1.9% of the entire national economy.

The most important sectors that contribute to the GDP in San Luis Potosi are the manufacturing
industries; trade, real estate and rental of intangible and movable goods; construction;
transportation; mailing and warehousing; educational services; electricity, water and gas
supply by pipelines to the final consumer; and government activities. These eight sectors
constitute more than 176,100 million pesos equivalent to the 80.9% of the Gross Domestic
Product of the state.
According to the data provided by the Labor and Social Prevision Ministry, the economically
active population in the state of San Luis Potosi is 1,065,610 people.

as the NAFTA corridor, it communicates the Valley of Mexico,
main industrial center in the country, with the main international
land customs in Mexico: Nuevo Laredo, passing by important

Highway 70: (Tampico, Tamps. - Barra de Navidad, Jal.) This
corridor connects the Pacific and the Mexican Gulf, besides it
communicates San Luis with Guadalajara, the second most
important economy in Mexico and Aguascalientes which possess
the main crossing points to the north.
Highway 49: (San Luis Potosí, SLP - Zacatecas, Zac.) This
highway allows communication from San Luis Potosi to Zacatecas,
Durango, Torreon, Chihuahua and Ciudad Juarez.

San Luis Potosi counts with eleven diaries of state coverage and
the Official Newspaper of the Free and Sovereign State of San
Luis Potosi.
• Turism
Originally founded as San Luis Minas del Potosi, the city is named
after the main saint Viceroy Don Luis II de Velasco also known as
San Luis IX, King of France joined with the quetchua word “Poctosí” meaning “hill that explodes” in allusion to the famous mines
of Cerro the San Pedro (similar to those in the famous Potosi area
in Bolivia).
The city’s attraction calendar varies throughout the year, but
without a doubt, its biggest celebrations conserve a religious
influence, being the most important the Day of the Dead (Nov
2) and the Ceremony of Silence every Holy Saturday during the
Catholic Holy Week.
Every August, the city host the Feria Nacional Potosina (FENAPO),
considered the second most important State Fair in the country;
as well San Luis Potosi hosts varied artistic and cultural festivals
through the year such as the “Festival de San Luis”, “Fiesta de
Luz” and the “Festival de Danza Contemporánea Lila López” to
mention some.
The city´s gastronomy by itself is a huge tourist attraction,
with plates like the cheese red tacos “Camila” or the famous
“Enchiladas Potosinas” being the latter the most recognized dish
of the city, made with red pepper corn tortilla filled with a mixture of
cheese and chilies, commonly served with fried beans, chopped
onion and guacamole. The desserts include the famous “queso
de tuna” and the ones elaborated with goat milk like custards and
“cajetas” (milk caramel spreads).

The Government of San Luis Potosí is headed by the Mayor
Mario Garcia Valdez, elected in the year of 2012 and active
member of the party Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI).
The council is composed by 2 Syndics and 15 Councilors,
whom are in charged of the city’s Public Administration.

Entrepreneurial Ecosystem
The Entrepreneurial Ecosystem is a strategy of the city’s
Government to contribute with the business organisms,
educative institutions, investigation centers and funding
systems to generate supportive synergies with the citizens
of San Luis Potosi for them to generate productive and
prosperous business.

This effort is aimed to transform the city of San Luis Potosi in
an intelligent, sustainable, integrated and open economy to
the world. We are currently looking for strategic allies, willing
to potentiate the local economies, allowing the entrepreneurs
to grow their business and so contributing to the economic
growth and development of the city and the country.

Program of Cadastral Modernization
Historic Downtown Rehabilitation
It is a program that encompasses new technologies of
information for the government taking decisions process,
focused in the urban development, cadastre, commerce,
public works and that reduces time and cost associated with
the transactions that the population carryout.
This program promotes both the embellishment of the city´s
downtown and the urban sustainable mobility. The first stage
consists in the modernization of the public bus transfer station,
located at Juan Sarabia´s grove, used daily by thousands
of citizens mainly on their way back and forth to work. This
project operates along the Federal Government´s National
Development Plan 2013 – 2018.
The program grants higher competitiveness to the city, every
time it counts with a modern platform of information consulting
that makes more efficient and effective the government’s duty.
By means of this program there is a better control of the uses
and destination of floor of the city, this contributes to the
territorial order and the sustainability of the City.
The program eliminates the informal channels of communication
with the citizens and aims the institution system to eliminate
the corruption.
Energy Program
Digital Government
The strategy of this project is to simplify the life of the citizens
and has concrete objectives that point out to the future of the
city. It looks forward for the city to count with an economy
based on knowledge and to improve the quality of its citizens
by means of technologies, under a platform of Electronic
Government that improves the income of the city, optimizes the
expenditure and usage of municipal resources, concentrated
all services in a unique window and also supervising and
auditing all the city’s operations.
The main objective of this program is to reduce the city´s
carbon dioxide emissions and the energy bill. The action lines
of the program are:
• Efficiency; replacing conventional bulbs with energy saving
bulbs.
• Reduce waste of energy; turning off lights and electronics
when not in use, and assure proper function of city´s
electronics as well as automated luminaries.
• Sustainability; replacing street luminaries with LED lamps
and solar power generators.
