T
he Cycle B readings present us with a year of
struggles. This week's Bible meditations offer
us a window onto the struggle with fear of loss.
The first reading deals with the blind, the deaf, the lame and
the mute. Each of these situations can produce a fear of
never having a full life--never getting out of life what people who are sighted, hearing, firm and speaking will have.
But, the "lack" can be anything--it doesn't have to be one of
these. A lack of wealth, perhaps, or an addiction, or, more to
the point: any "thing" that seems to mark us as different and
inferior to the majority can make us afraid that we will
never have what others seem to have so easily. The Gospel
deals with a man whose ears are opened to sound for the
first time...the letter of James deals with the poor, who will
never have the "doors" opened to him that the rich so easily
walk through. So, what is the message of the readings regarding these fears? In each one, God meets the individual
with something that overcomes the disability--in the Gospel,
Jesus heals, in James, the community welcomes the poor
one, in the first reading God finds a way to make the lame
dance and leap and run. We are not told if these healings
were actual or metaphorical--but whatever they were, they
were enough to bring total joy and meaning to the lives of
those who had felt so small and so inferior and so excluded.
The promise is that the God Who authored you and loves
you will meet you in whatever it is that causing your own
discomfort, and bring you to fulfillment. A wonderful promise, and, I've found, a true one. May God bless you all, this

E
n el año que hemos estado en el Ciclo B, las lecturas han tratado sobre la lucha. Las meditaciones de
esta semana se tratan sobre la lucha del miedo a
perder. La primera lectura se trata sobre el ciego, el sordo,
el tullido y el mudo. Cada una de estas situaciones nos
puede dar un miedo a no llegar a la plenitud– de no llegar
a ser plenos como los que ven, oyen, caminan firmes, y
hablan. Pero, la “falta de algo” puede hacer cualquier cosa
y no necesariamente una de éstas. Una falta de riqueza, o
tener una adicción, o concretamente: Podemos tener miedo en que nos falte “algo” que nos hagan diferentes y que
nos sintamos inferiores a los demás. El Evangelio nos
habla de cómo los oídos de un sordomudo llegaron a escuchar el sonido por primera vez. La carta de Santiago nos
dice que tratemos igual a los invitados aunque sean pobres
o ricos. Entonces, ¿Qué es el mensaje de estas lecturas?
En cada una de las lecturas, Dios se encuentra con el individuo y vence al obstáculo– En el Evangelio Jesús sana,
en Santiago la comunidad le da bienvenida a los pobres,
en la primera lectura, Dios encuentra la manera de hacer
de que los tullidos brinquen y corran. No se nos dice si
estas sanciones sucedieron o son metáforas– sean o no,
estas lecturas nos da alegría y esperanza a quienes nos
hace “falta” algo y quienes nos sentimos inferiores y excluidos. La promesa es que Dios Quien te creó y quien te
ama, te encontrará sin importar la situación que te encuentres, y te llevará a la plenitud. Es una promesa maravillosa.

ometimes we can make a big deal out
of something someone has done and
miss the simple faith and love that
was the core of it. We see this in the Gospel today.
Jesus did not want his miracles and acts of kindness
to be see a magic but rather as signs that the salvation of God has arrived.
Jesus did not want to be burdened with the trappings of human status and power. Yet in rejecting
human ideas of him as a powerful, magical healer,
he in fact claims something much greater for himself: he is the one who brings us God’s saving
power. This is what we should glory in!!

día de hoy. Jesús no quiso que sus actos de sanación
se vean como magia, más bien como signos de que
ha llegado la salvación de Dios.
Jesús no quiso estar preocupado con el poder ni el
estatus humano. De tal manera que al rechazar las
ideas humanas de poder, de un líder mágico, él llegar
a ser algo más grande: Jesús es quien nos trae el poder salvador de Dios. ¡Alegrémonos por la salvación
que nos trae Jesús!

Tutoring Resumes September 17
Tutoría/Asesoría Regresa el 17 de septiembre
Our tutoring program, led by Ashley Merryman, will kick off
on Thursday, September 17, 2015. From this day, we will meet
on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays from
1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Room 4. The program is free and it is
designed for students Kinder to High School. All are welcome.
Nuestro programa de tutoría, dirigido por Ashley Merryman,
regresa el jueves 17 de septiembre de 2015. A partir de este día

Our parish family had a glorious Night of Praise. It was wonderful to see both communities celebrating, singing, dancing
and praising the Lord. The music and food were excellent !!
Congratulations to Ms. Juana Navarro, who won the computer. In good time. !!!
The Night of Praise Team would like to extend our sincere
thanks to all the community who supported us with their presence, donations, buying and selling tickets, once again we feel
very blessed and proud to belong to this great community. May
our good Lord reward your generosity to our community.
A huge thanks to all the cooks who prepared dinner. Thanks
to Celeste, Irene, Gloria and Ashle Onix for your help with the
flower arrangements that decorated our tables. Thanks also to
all the cashiers, to all who helped serve food and sell raffle
tickets. And what about our master of ceremonies, Marcus
Jacques, excellent job, thank Marcus !!!!

Nuestros huéspedes recibieron más que alimento para
sus cuerpos. Oscar y Alicia y
el ministerio de Pan de Vida
sirvieron alimento espiritual
duradera para el alma llena
de amor, compasión y esperanza. Oscar leyó pasajes de
la Biblia y pronunció un
mensaje que tocó y inspiro a
nuestros huéspedes. El día
fue muy caliente pero nuestros huéspedes escucharon en
tranquilidad y absorbieron el
mensaje de este hombre tan
increíble y lleno del fuego de
Dios. Oscar y Alicia entregaron el mensaje en español y
en Inglés. La presencia de
Dios sin duda estaba allí en
la Gruta. Nuestros invitados
comieron pollo, arroz, ensa-
lada de papas, pan, sandía,
refrescos, agua y postres de
parte de Linda F y su familia.
Unos pocos hasta tuvieron
dos o tres platos. Comenzamos a las 4:00 pm y el último
invitado entró corriendo en la
gruta a las 5:30 pm. Las ollas
de pollo y arroz parecían sin
fondo, todos los huéspedes
estuvieron satisfechos . La
palabra debería haberse extendido por la vecindad sobre la comida caliente porque
vimos muchas caras nuevas.
Los miembros del Ministerio
Pan de Vida son verdaderos
discípulos de Dios. Cada mes
donan la comida y van a alimentar al pueblo de Dios que
están en necesidad y, al mismo tiempo la palabra de Dios
para el alma y el espíritu. Lo
hacen en silencio apoyado en
la gracia de Dios y con los
demás. El Ministerio de
