On September 29, we’re ordering
2017 boxed sets of offering
envelopes. As we have for the past
few years, we’ll ask you to pick up
your boxed set in the church in December.
We encourage you to use an envelope each weekend you come to Mass so we can credit your participation in the life of our community. We realize
that not everyone is able to make a donation every
week, and that’s okay. You’re credited with attendance even when you drop an empty envelope in the
basket.
One of the reasons we track participation is to help
you. If you’re sending a child to Catholic school or
if you’re being asked to sponsor someone for baptism or confirmation, you’ll be asked to provide a
letter from your parish stating that you are an actively practicing Catholic. We look at the participation record to determine whether or not we can
provide such a letter.
Last year, we had many unclaimed boxed sets so
for 2017 if you’d rather not receive a boxed set,
please let us know by Monday, September 26. You
can contact Rosemary and Olga, our receptionists,
by phone or email (see the bulletin cover). If you
have questions or concerns, you’re welcome to
contact Terry at 919-772-5524 ext 207 or
[email protected].
Thank you for your ongoing support of our community here in Garner, in the diocese, and in the
world.
Pursuant to Article II, §1 of the By-Laws
of the St. Mary, Mother of the Church Pastoral Council, the Method of Electing Members is to be published the last weekend of
September. The By-Laws state:
St. Mary, Mother of the Church
Pastoral Council By-Laws
Article II
METHOD OF ELECTING MEMBERS
Section 1: Setup for Nominations and Elections
At the September meeting of the Pastoral Council,
the Chairperson will appoint an Election Committee of
three non-council members to oversee the nomination
and election process.
On the last Sunday of September the election procedures will be published and distributed to the Parish at
each Mass.
Section 2: Process for the Nomination for Membership
Ballots for nomination will be available at each
Mass on the 1st and 2nd Sunday in October. Ballots will
be collected after each Mass on the 1st and 2nd Sunday in
October as parishioners leave the Church. All registered
parishioners, eighteen years and older, will be eligible
to nominate. All nominees are subject to Pastor’s review; the Pastor has the right to remove nominees before and after publication of the list.
Section 3: Contact with Those Persons Nominated
Before the 3rd Sunday in October, all those nominated will be contacted by an Election Committee Representative and asked if they would be willing to serve on
the Pastoral Council if elected, under terms of the Constitution and By-Laws. If the nominee accepts, a questionnaire will be sent to the nominee to fill out and return. The Election Committee will draw up a personal
outline (resume) of each nominee from these questionnaires and furnish them to the Chairperson for review
and approval by the Pastor.
Section 4: Election of New Members
On the 1st Sunday in November, a personal outline
(resume) of each nominee will be published and made
available to each parishioner.
Bolivia Mission Trip
It’s collection time again. A receptacle will be in the narthex
during the month of October to
collect glasses/sunglasses, blood pressure machines, diabetic testing supplies, electronic thermometers and alcohol wipes. A second collection
will be in early 2017 prior to the Santa Cruz mission. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Peace, Sharon & Ed Padfield
On the 2nd Sunday in November, a ballot with all
nominees’ names (in alphabetical order) will be available to each registered adult parishioner. These completed and signed ballots will be collected or deposited in
the rear of the Church, in a designated Ballot Box. In
order to ensure one vote per parishioner, ballots will be
signed. Unsigned ballots will not be counted.
On the 3rd Sunday in November, the names of the
elected members will be published in the Parish bulletin. All ballots will be kept on file by the Secretary of
the Pastoral Council for one year.
