Durante varios siglos, Italia fue el lugar de peregrinaje de los artistas
europeos. A finales del siglo XIX, París asumió ese papel. Allí llegó en
1900, con apenas 19 años, Pablo Picasso. Siete años más tarde, el español
se había convertido en el jefe de la vanguardia. La exposición del museo
Van Gogh de Ámsterdam muestra, hasta el 29 de mayo, 70 obras de
aquellos años del malagueño y se realiza con la colaboración del museo
Picasso de Barcelona y la Sociedad Estatal de Acción Cultural.
For several centuries, Italy was the pilgrimage centre for European
artists. In the late 19th century, the role was assumed by Paris.
Pablo Picasso arrived there in 1900, at the age of just 19. Seven
years later, the Spaniard had
become the leader of the avantgarde. Until 29 May, this
exhibition at the Van Gogh
Museum in Amsterdam is
showing 70 works from that
period by the Malaga-born artist.
It is held in collaboration with the
Picasso Museum in Barcelona
and the State Corporation for
Cultural Action.

London is showing the first major exhibition of his work
for half a century. With 80 works on display, the artist is
situated in his context.

The actress Blanca Portillo directs La avería (“The
Breakdown”), a moral tale that recreates a fantastic world
where elderly people debate law, justice and the will to
live. Running in Madrid until 24 April and in Barcelona
from 28 April to 15 May, the play takes us on a journey
inside our conscience, sometimes funny and sometimes
cruel, to analyse decisions taken out of thirst for power and
their effects on those around.

Kurt Elling
Nacido en Pinar del Río en 1969, Raúl Paz se instaló en París
a finales de la década de los 90 fascinado por la cultura
francófona. Sin embargo, Havanization, su ultimo trabajo, es el
disco de un pinareño que escucha a la trova, pero también a Stevie
Wonder y a Bob Dylan. En el tema que da nombre al disco, Paz
remarca las contradicciones que le rodean: “Hay una Habana que
te asfixia con la bobería./ Hay una Habana de fe y de sabiduría./
Hay una Habana que está lista, otra que no se fía./ Así que ten
cuidao”. Muy recomendable.

Philip Roth es uno de esos escritores que, año

letras portuguesas, murió en 1900 en
pleno proceso de escritura del Diccionario
de milagros. Esta obra inconclusa recoge
y tipifica los milagros más sorprendentes
reconocidos por la Iglesia católica. El lector
descubrirá, por ejemplo,
que al menos 20 santos
consiguieron multiplicar
sus viandas.

En España hay unas 70 denominaciones de origen (D.O.) de vinos.
Entre las menos conocidas está Ribeira Sacra, región gallega donde
se cultivan las uvas blancas albariño, loureira, treixadura, godello,
dona branca y torronés; además de tintas como mencía brancellao
y merenzao. La gran apuesta de la D.O. Ribeira Sacra era demostrar
que no sólo producen grandes blancos. Prueba de ello es Regina
Expresión 2007, un vino cien por cien mencía, de Bodega Regina
Viarum, con 90 puntos en la Guía de los Mejores Vinos de
España de la Guía Repsol 2011. En cuestión de blancos, con 92
puntos, destacan Abadía da Cova 2009 (cien por cien albariño y
de Adegas Moure) y Lapena Crianza 2006 (cien por cien godello
y de Bodegas Dominio de Bibei).
Of Spain’s 70 or so official wine appellations, or ‘denominations of
origin’ (D.O.), one of the least known is Ribeira Sacra, a region of
Galicia where the white Albariño, Loureira, Treixadura, Godello,
Dona Branca and Torronés varieties are grown, as well as
black grapes like Mencía Bracellao and Merenzao. The great
gambit of the D.O. Ribeira Sacra has been to demonstrate that
great white wines are not all it produces. The proof is Regina
Expresión 2007, a 100 per cent Mencía wine from Bodega
Regina Viarum that scores 90 points in the 2011 Repsol
Guide’s ‘Guide to the Best Wines in Spain’. Two whites that
stand out with 92 points are Abadía de Cova 2009 (100%
Albariño, from Adegas Moure) and Lapena Crianza 2006
(100% Godello, from Bodegas Dominio de Bibei).

extra del mundo al quedar entre las 20 primeras del ranking de la prestigiosa guía italiana
Flos Olei 2010, con una puntuación de 90 sobre 97. LA Organic, con origen hace 200 años
en el seno de una comunidad de religiosas de Ronda, en Málaga (Andalucía), comenzó con
una pequeña producción de agricultura ecológica extraída del fruto de los olivos centenarios
de la finca LA Amarilla. La familia Gómez de Baeza tomó el testigo en los años 90 y amplió
el negocio con pagos asociados. LA Organic comercializa cuatro familias de aceite y cuenta
con un director artístico de excepción, el diseñador francés Philippe Starck.
The Andalusian firm LA Organic has ascended the Olympus of the world’s finest extra
virgin olive oils by being ranked among the top 20 in the 2010 list published
by the prestigious Italian Flos Olei guide, which awarded it a score of 90 out of 97. The origins
of LA Organic date back 200 years to a community of nuns in the Andalusian province of
Malaga. It started as a small ecological farming
concern based on the fruit from the hundred-year-old
olive trees of the LA Amarilla estate. The Gómez de
Baeza family took it over in the 90s and expanded
the business onto neighbouring plots. LA
Organic markets four families of oil and has an
exceptional artistic director, the French designer
Philippe Starck.
