“You can’t take it with you,” Aunt Frances used to say. “I never saw a hearse
pulling a U-Haul.” Aunt Frances had a point. We expend a lot of effort making
money for our families, planning for retirement, and managing our
investments. Yet we have no control over when our lives will be demanded of
us. And wealth may not be the only “treasure” that we “store up.”
We have many ways to preserve a false sense of security, to mask the
vulnerability that we humans share. We may install security systems, move into
gated communities, or buy a gun. We may buy SUVs with antilock brakes. We
may store up good deeds that allow us to feel smug and self-satisfied, or
grudges that put others in our debt. The scriptures today remind us that
whatever we might be banking on to keep us safe is mere “vanity.”

Reflexionemos sobre la Palabra de Dios
“No puedes llevarte nada contigo; nunca he visto un coche fúnebre jalando una
camioneta de mudanza”, decía siempre la tía Francisca. Dedicamos mucho
esfuerzo en hacer dinero, en nuestras familias, en planear nuestra jubilación y
en administrar nuestras inversiones. Sin embargo no tenemos ningún control
acerca de aquel momento en que se nos pedirá la vida. Y ojalá no sea la riqueza
el único “tesoro” que “almacenemos”.

The Gospel message today is so contrary to our modern culture where advertising continually tries to convince us that
our value lies in the things we possess. Jesus showed us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He
challenges us to not store up or hoard material possessions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle.

What is More Than Bricks?
More Than Bricks
Over the past few years we have been “saving for a rainy day”,
and St. Cyril’s has been doing this with our Capital Repairs
offering. Brothers and sisters, in the past three months it has been “pouring”,
and while we are covering the cost of the $300,000 emergency repair to the
plumbing pipes and A/C lines, we need to replenish that rainy day fund.
Our facilities are aging; it is almost certain that sooner or later there will be
another major repair. More Than Bricks is an opportunity for us to save for the
next “rainy day”. That is what “More Than Bricks” means; we are not just “fixing
what is broken”, we are allowing this community to continue the ministry to
which God has called us.

Más Que Ladrillos
Durante los últimos años hemos estado ahorrando para situaciones
inesperadas y San Cirilo ha estado haciendo esto con nuestra ofrenda
para Reparaciones Mayores. Hermanos y hermanas, en los últimos tres meces se nos
ha soltado un diluvio, y mientras que estamos cubriendo el costo de $300,000 para
reparar la tubería del aire acondicionado, también necesitamos restaurar ese fondo
para emergencias.
Nuestras instalaciones son cada vez más antiguas, y es casi seguro que antes de lo
esperado habrá otra reparación que hacer. La campaña “Más que Ladrillos” es una
oportunidad para que ahorremos para emergencias como esta que vengan en un
futuro. Eso quiere decir “Más que Ladrillos”, no solo estamos reparando lo que
necesita reparación, sino que estamos permitiéndole a esta comunidad a que
continúe el ministerio al cual Dios nos ha llamado.

Monthly Meeting
Pastoral Care Ministry
St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic
Church is currently assigned to five
nursing homes, where a team of
volunteers help by taking
communion to those who are no
longer able to attend Mass.
Once a month, we schedule a Mass
and the anointing of the sick at the
nursing homes. This ministry would
not be possible, if it were not for our
lovely volunteers who help us meet
the needs of the elderly and the
sick.
We are currently seeking
volunteers, who are available to
help on a rotating basis on
Thursdays.

Grupo Guadalupano Iglesia San Cirilo de Alejandría
La asociación guadalupana es una asociación religiosa
que es constituida para el bien de los devotos a la Santa
Virgen de Guadalupe.
Misión: La misión como Guadalupanos es ayudar a las
sociedades guadalupanas fermentar y cultivar la
devoción a nuestra Señora de Guadalupe el
acrecentamiento del culto público.

Acomodadores
Usted quizás piense que los acomodadores toman en su
mayor parte la ofrenda durante la misa, pero su ministerio
implica mucho más que esto, En algunos lugares les llaman
Ministros de Hospitalidad, porque su papel principal es servir a la
comunidad así como dar la bienvenida y acomodar a las personas que
atienden a la misa. La misa de la 1:15pm esta buscando personas que
les gustaría ser parte y servir como acomodadores.

GRUPO AMOR Y SERENIDAD
Grupo de apoyo para personas con depresión, ansiedad, soledad,
irritabilidad, miedos, resentimientos, conmiseración, ira, celos,
nerviosismo dificultad para concentrarse, insomnio, enfermedades que
el medico no logra descubrir, etc.
Te ayudaremos a superar estos problemas.

RETIROS nuevo nombre:
Por aproximadamente 6 años nuestra parroquia ha estado ofreciendo los
retiros de ACTS para hombres y mujeres en español. Esto nos ha reforzado el
conocimiento que los retiros es algo muy bueno para la vida espiritual de
nuestra comunidad.
Continuaremos con los retiros, pero bajo otro nombre, este retiro contiene
varias cosas que son parte de cualquier retiro, pero en adición a eso contendrá
elementos mas personalizados que consideramos se apegan mas al estilo de
nuestra comunidad en español.
Estamos muy agradecidos con ACTS Missions San Antonio y Houston por todo
el apoyo que nos dieron durante los años que realizamos estos retiros.
Los animamos a que sigan motivando a sus familiares y amigos para que vivan
la experiencia del retiro “KAIROS” este es el nuevo nombre de nuestros retiros
que remplazara a ACTS.
