This week we pray for a renewal of our lives. We are beginning to be more attentive and alert. We are trying new patterns. The difficulties we encounter keep us humble. Our desire is clear. We want the “self-sacrificing love of Christ” which brings us mercy and healing - to be “reproduced in our lives.” In our journey, we seek to savor the meaning of Jesus' self-less love, that we might reflect that love to others. At the end of our journey, we will renew our baptismal promises. Dying with Jesus in baptism, we have a new life in him. Today, we desire nothing less than God's re-creating us breathing new life into us. (Creighton Reflec ons) A clean heart create for me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me. CONGRATULATIONS St. Agnes Children who participated in First Reconciliation We would like to congratulate all of the 110 Children of Saint Agnes who participated in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time these past couple of weeks. It was a beautiful little prayer service where the children sang, Father offered a beautiful homily on the Sacrament of Reconciliation and together we examined our conscience in order to be fully prepared for the Sacrament. Some of the more memorable moments from this beautiful yet simple celebration were when the children came out of the confessional with ear to ear smiles and watching the families praying together. It is a pleasure to note that Sacramental life is vibrant in the families of Saint Agnes. During this Lenten season may we all be encouraged to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation as it reinvigorates our joy of faith. LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION !!! By Mrs. Eileen Marie Dunn Old School: taking notes, taking tests, pens, pencils: Ho-hum! New School: demonstrating understanding by creating presentations, adapting learning to real-life experiences, video, iPads, Apple TV’s: Wow! Our St. Agnes Junior High students are moving steadily into the spirit of the Common Core curriculum by using the most current methods to demonstrate learning. The Eighth Grade Religion classes went on virtual pilgrimages by planning a trip to the shrine of their choice and videotaping their journeys to Guadalupe, Lourdes, Assisi, Knock, Quebec, and Medjugorje. Following the example of the Camino de Compostela, students traveled with accompanying music, showed a map of their journey and chose a symbol for their site. Their creativity turned the nurse’s alcove with cot into a youth hostel, the brick sidewalk into walking trails through quaint European towns, and our own beautiful Church into each shrine. The depth of the project was shown through their reflections on the reason for the pilgrimage and how the experience changed them. Our Seventh Grade ELA classes provided lessons on adapting to change. After reading the popular book Who Moved My Cheese for Teens by Spencer Johnson, they worked in groups to demonstrate their ability to apply the suggestions to their own lives. The groups wrote manuscripts of scenarios ranging from the practical … not getting into your first-choice college, to the fantastic … FBI agents being fired from their jobs! Each student had to react to the situation as did the characters in the book. The plays were videotaped and shown to the class via the Apple TV’s. Our students are masters of technology and use it well to demonstrate learning in every area. The “Stars” are really shining at St. Agnes!
