The PTSA Board Meetings are held on the second
Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in the Media
Center, followed by the Student Board Meetings (lunch
provided for students) at 12:10 p.m. (See page 2 for a
description of the Student Board.)
Why Join the PTSA?
Our PTSA supports many activities at Layton High
School including: scholarships, Reflections, Battle of the
Bands, service projects, anti-drug program, health &
safety week, teacher appreciation dinners, the senior
bash, and the PTSA Student Board. Please join and
support PTSA today! Dues are just $7.00 for each parent
and/or student. To join online, go to myDSD, then click
on Optional Fees. You can also pay in the office.
Students who join the PTSA are welcome to be part of
the Student Board.
Your PTSA membership card gives you many discounts,
including Staples, AARP, Schwan’s, MetLife, Sylvan
Learning, Hertz, and PTSA discount days to Jazz, REAL,
Grizzlies, Bees, Owlz, and Ogden Raptors
games.
Please support these good programs
at our school and join PTSA today.

Lunch-Hour Library
Volunteers Needed
If you would like to provide service for the school,
we are in immediate need of volunteers to
work in the library during the 40-minute lunchtime
so the librarian can take a lunch break. It would be
12:10-12:50 on Mondays & Wednesdays, and
12:25-1:05 on Tuesdays. If you are able to help,
even one day a week or one day a month, please
contact Gladys Paredes at [email protected].

Battle of the Bands
PTSA Student Board
The Utah PTA sponsors Battle of the Bands,
a yearly event where bands from high
schools across the state come together to
compete for prizes. All musical ensembles
or groups (with a minimum of two members) are
welcome to enter. The winner will advance to the
multi-region competition to represent Layton High.
Those who are interested in competing, please
contact Shanna Dummer (801-497-0515) or Lynette
Checketts (801-633-3156) as soon as possible.
The PTSA Student Board at Layton High is a student
organization that supports the PTSA in providing
service to the school.
They meet the second
Tuesday each month at 12:10 p.m. in the media
center. Lunch is provided. To be a part of the
student board, just become a member of the PTSA
by paying the $7 fee on myDSD, then text Makell
Westenskow (801-671-7585) to let her know you
would like to be part of the student board. The first
meeting will be on Tuesday, September 13th.

great for scholarship
applications. The PTSA
also has a scholarship to
award to one of the
contributing
students.

Earn Money for LHS
Do you shop at Smith’s? If so,
you can help Layton High’s
PTSA by enrolling in Smith’s
Earn and Learn Program.
Every time you use your
rewards card for Smith’s purchases, the Layton High
PTSA will receive a percentage of those sales. You
must re-enroll every year, so make sure your card is
once again linked to Layton High PTSA. To enroll
online, go to www.smithscommunityrewards.com
and click “My Account”. Then under “Community
Rewards”, enter Layton High PTSA’s code 80913.
Thank you for your support. Encourage family and
friends to enroll as well!
Amazon Smile Program
Enroll in the Amazon Smile
Program to earn money for
Layton High! Amazon Smile is a foundation
operated by Amazon.com. With every eligible
purchase you make at Amazon, the Amazon Smile
Foundation will donate 5% to our school. To
enroll, just go to smile.amazon.com. Select the
charity organization “PTA Utah Congress Layton
High PTSA”, then shop as normal. It’s that easy!
PTSA Scholarships
The PTSA will award scholarships to several senior
Lancers this year. The recipients are chosen on the
basis of service, leadership, and
academic achievement. All applicants
and one parent must be a member of
the PTSA. Watch for more details!

Only original works of art will be accepted. Entry
forms and rules are available in the office or online

the office by Monday, November 7th. If you have

submit an entry. Show your creative side by
entering PTA Reflections this year!

Las reuniones de la Junta Directiva se llevan a cabo
cada segundo Martes de cada mes a las 10:30 am en el
Media Center, seguido por la reunión de la Junta
Estudiantil (almuerzo es proveído para los

Porque Unirse al PTSA?
Nuestra PTSA apoya muchas actividades en la escuela
Layton High los cuales incluyen: becas, concurso
Reflections, concurso la Batalla de las Bandas,
proyectos de servicio, programas anti drogas, semana
de salud y seguridad, cenas de apreciación para
maestros, la fiesta de graduación, y la Junta Estudiantil
del PTSA. Por favor únase y brinde apoyo al PTSA por
una pequeña cuota de $7 tanto para el padre de
familia como para el estudiante. Para inscribirse visite

puede pagar en la oficina. Los estudiantes que se unen
al PTSA también son bienvenidos a formar parte de la

Se Necesitan Voluntarios
para la Biblioteca a la
Hora Del Almuerzo
Hay una oportunidad de brindar servicio voluntario
para la escuela. Estamos en la urgente necesidad de
voluntarios para atender la biblioteca durante los 40
minutos que necesita la bibliotecaria para su
almuerzo. Hay dos horarios disponibles, los cuales
son los Lunes y Miércoles de 12:10 – 12:50 pm. El
otro horario es los Martes de 12:25 – 1:05 pm. Si
usted tiene alguno de estos horarios disponible, ya
sea por un solo día a la semana, o un día al mes, por

Batalla de las Bandas
Junta Estudiantil del PTSA
La Asociación de Padres y Maestros (PTA) de Utah
patrocina la Batalla de las Bandas. Este es un evento
anual en donde bandas musicales de escuelas
secundarias a través del Estado se reúnen para
competir por premios. Todos los grupos y bandas
musicales (con un mínimo de dos integrantes) están
invitados para competir. El ganador avanzará a la
competencia multi-regional representando a Layton
High. Todos los interesados por favor contacten Becky
Lowder al número (801) 209-4900 o por correo
electrónico [email protected] o a
Lynette Ckecketts al número (801) 633-3156) tan
pronto como sea posible.
La Junta Estudiantil de Layton High es una organización
que apoya al PTSA al proveer servicio a la escuela. Ellos
se reúnen cada segundo Martes de cada mes a las 12:00
pm en la biblioteca. Durante la reunión se les sirve
almuerzo gratis. Para ser parte de la Junta Estudiantil,
solamente tiene que pagar una cuota de $7 en myDSD, y
después asegúrese de hacerle saber a Makell Westenskow

usted quiere ser parte de la Junta Estudiantil. La primera
reunión esta planificada para el Martes 13 de Septiembre.

comer pizza. Debido a las horas de servicio que se
pueden lograr siendo parte del PTSA, ésta es una buena
oportunidad
para incluir ésta información en
aplicaciones para becas escolares. El PTSA también tiene
una beca para otorgar a un estudiante que se elegirá por
sus contribuciones de servicio. Ven y únete a la diversión!

Becas del PTSA
El PTSA otorgará becas estudiantiles a varios graduandos
Lancer éste año. Los recipientes son elegidos de acuerdo
con el servicio comunitario, liderazgo y rendimiento
académico que hayan logrado durante el año escolar.
Todos los aplicantes y al menos uno de los padres deben
ser miembros del PTSA. Espere por más detalles!
Reflections de PTA
El tema de Reflections de PTA para el ano 20162017 es:
“Cual es tu Historia?”
Los estudiantes interesados en participar pueden competir
en las siguientes categorías:
Literatura
Composición Musical
Fotografía
Coreografía y Baile
Producción Fílmica
Artes visuales en 2 dimensiones
Artes visuales en 3 dimensiones
Artista Especial (para estudiantes con disabilidades)
Solamente obras originales serán acceptadas. Formas para
competir y reglas están disponibles tanto en la oficina
como
en
línea
en
el
sitio
web
www.utahpts.org/reflections. La última fecha en que las
obras/arte deben ser entregadas es el Lunes 7 de
Noviembre, en la oficina. Si tiene alguna pregunta por

estudiante que presente una obra o arte, recibirá un
