THE PRESENCE OF GOD
After the miracle of Jesus
walking on water, the disciples
exclaimed, ―Truly, you are the
Son of God‖ (Matthew 14:33).
Most Christians will probably
never experience such a dramatic miracle. Like Elijah, we
await the manifestation of God
in other moments. Perhaps the
biggest challenge for the believer is to be constantly attuned to the possible presence of God in the everyday
events of life. This is a stance that takes some people
years to develop. Others seem to find the Lord easily in
the simple things. As the week unfolds, let us look for
the presence of God in the little things around us. Perhaps, like Elijah, we will be surprised at what we find.
And, like the disciples, we can add our voice to the confession, ―Truly you are the Son of God.‖ © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

Después del milagro en que
Jesús camina sobre el agua,

Regresamos a la Escuela
School bells are beginning to toll. It seems as if
the summer just flew by. We are blessed to be
opening the 2011-2012 school year with a
strong enrollment, excellent teachers and a facility that has almost been completely remodeled.
We just finished up the remodel of the junior
high classrooms. This project ended up being a
little more extensive than we had planned so the
Church construction was put on hold to make
sure we finished the school renovations before
school started. The Cougar Court has been patched and
resurfaced creating an inviting environment for our community. Our library has been painted and some new to us furniture has been obtained. Overall, the school environment
is in great condition for our student's return.
Empiezan a tañer las campanas de la escuela. El
verano parece que voló. Es una bendición el abrir
el ciclo escolar 2011-2012 con una fuerte inscripción, excelentes maestros y unas instalaciones
remodeladas casi por completo. Acabamos de
terminar de remodelar los salones de Junior High.
Este proyecto acabó siendo un poco más extenso
de lo planeado, por lo que se tuvo que suspender
temporalmente la construcción de la Iglesia para
asegurarnos de terminar las renovaciones de la
escuela antes de empezar un nuevo año escolar. El Cougar
Court ha sido parchado y recubierto lo que crea un ambiente
acogedor para nuestra comunidad. Nuestra biblioteca fue pintada y se obtuvieron muebles nuevos para nosotros. En general, el ambiente escolar está en excelentes condiciones para el
regreso de nuestros estudiantes.
This year our Catholic Identity focus will be on the "Fruits of
the Spirit". We will be instilling in our students the importance of these fruits in their everyday life--love, joy, peace,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, goodness, kindness
and patience. Throughout the school facility and integrated
within our teaching will be reminders of the "fruits". It is
our hope to make sure all our students reflect the spirit of
Jesus all day long 7 days a week.
Would you like to volunteer in our school? There are many
ways you can from reading to children to working in the
Science lab. Give us a hollar in the office and we can let
you know about the various opportunities.
I invite all to attend an Open House on August 28 from
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Come by the school, meet the teachers and see what is happening at "your" school. We are
blessed to be part of the vibrant community of St. Cyril of
Alexandria Parish. If you are unable to make the open house, please feel free to call me and I would be happy to take
you on a tour.

Este año, el enfoque a nuestra Identidad Católica se basará en
los ―Frutos del Espíritu‖ [Fruits of the Spirit]. Inculcaremos en
nuestros estudiantes la importancia de estos frutos en su vida
cotidiana—amor, alegría, paz, fe, gentileza, auto-control, bondad, amabilidad y paciencia. En toda la escuela, e integrados
a nuestra enseñanza, encontrarán recordatorios de estos
―frutos‖. Esperamos asegurarnos de que nuestros estudiantes
muestren todo el día, los 7 días de la semana, el espíritu de
Jesús.

This Sunday’s first reading from first Book of Kings
is a special scriptural passage for our Carmelite
Order. Unfortunately, the selection stops short of
the dialogue between God and Elijah in which God
asks Elijah ―why are you here?‖ and he responds
―With zeal I am zealous for the Lord God of hosts!‖
This statement, by the one who is honored by the
Carmelites as their spiritual father, is the motto of
the Carmelite Order and is featured on the full version of the Order’s shield (although it is usually
written in the Latin - Zelo zelatus sum pro Domino

significant increases from July 2010 to July 2011
Listed below are the services our St. Vincent de Paul society provided in July 2011 to our friends in the vicinity
of St. Cyril's. Also included is the percentage change in each category compared to July 2010. The number of
office visits increased 33% and adults served 22%. More individuals are being serving now than a year ago.
The conference also handed out 500 bus passes, purchased beds for 10 households, and provided rent/utility
assistance to 13 families. There continues to be great demand for our services. Your donations of food and
money are greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

Registration for Junior High School Religious
Education, grades 7 & 8, the Youth Group, HS
Youth Group and Confirmation I and II will be
after Masses on Saturday, August 13th and Sunday, August 14th.
Confirmation I & II and High School Youth
Group will hold their first meeting of the 20112012 school year on Wednesday, August 24th in
the Guadalupe Room and the Ramada. We will
begin at 7:00 PM. Come join the fun and bring
a snack to share.
Calling all Jr High young people…come join the fun on
Thursday, August 25th in Nicholson hall from 6:30 PM to
8:30 PM. This will be our first meeting for the new school
year.

for Widows and Widowers
Friends Together is a grief support group that meets at Saint
Francis de Sales Catholic Church, located at 1375 S. Camino
Seco. There are 2 groups. The first group meets on the first
and third Wednesdays of each month. The second group
meets every second and fourth Saturday. Choose one of
