TWENTY - SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
A Catechist’s Prayer
Father of all families, you have called me to serve the
family in truth and love as a catechist. May I be faithful
to this call, rooted in your Word, and open to the gifts
of the Holy Spirit.
May I use these gifts, especially the gifts of faith,
hope, and love, to serve the family as a witness to
you, who are love and life and the source and destiny
of all families.
Let your Spirit enlighten my mind and strengthen my
heart so that I can be a path of Christ’s love to families,
especially those in need, the homebound and aged,
the disabled and disheartened.
Through the intercession of Mary and Joseph, I pray
for the Church, the Bride of Christ, whose mission to
build a civilization of love passes through the family.
Amen.

News From The Streets…
Make Someone Happy!

It doesn’t take much to make someone happy. Our friend
Evelyn recently celebrated her birthday. For the past
several years we have taken the opportunity to celebrate
with Evelyn on her special day. On this Saturday we
brought her a cake with candles. We do this because we
love her. She does not have much. Just a few blankets to
lie on and the cloths on her back. Home for Evelyn is at
the intersection of Scott Street and I-45. We have been
friends for at least 10 years. I think she is beautiful, but
best yet, she loves God! Evelyn is the one person God
uses to help us do outreach to the neighborhood off
Scott Street spreading His message of love. We’ve chosen to love her right where she is at. We are not there to
change her – that is God’s job. We are just asked to love
her (Romans 13:8 “owe no man anything but to love him”).
Mother Teresa said it best “do small things with great
love.” She also said that what we do “is only a drop in the
ocean. But if we didn’t put the drop in, the ocean would
be one drop less. Same thing for you, same thing in your
family, same thing in the church where you go, just begin . . .
one, one, one.”

" RECUERDA, Señor, QUE TU MISERICORDIA ES ETERNA"
F I L I A L I D A D
Jesucristo “se rebajó hasta someterse incluso a la muerte, y
una muerte de cruz”. Este pasaje de la segunda lectura de
hoy, nos revela cuál es el gran ideal y misterio de la vida y
fecundidad del Señor: cumplir siempre y en todo la voluntad
del Padre. Cada impulso de su corazón, de su voluntad y de
su cuerpo, no está determinado por los deseos de la
naturaleza. No, solamente la voluntad amorosa del Padre lo
decide todo.
Seguramente, en ciertas oportunidades clama su naturaleza:
“Padre, si es posible, que pase de mí este cáliz”, dice Jesús en
Getsemaní. Pero esta súplica resulta sobrepasada por las
solemnes palabras: “Mas hágase tu voluntad y no la mía”.
(Mt 26,39)
En el Evangelio de hoy, en la parábola de los dos hijos, Jesús
exige esta acƟtud suya también de nosotros: que no sólo
digamos que sí sino que - sobre todo - hagamos la voluntad
del Padre. La verdadera grandeza del hombre está en
entregarse, en cada momento, como Cristo a la voluntad del
Padre.
Es la acƟtud caracterísƟca del niño ante el Padre. Nuestra
verdadera sanƟdad consiste, por eso, en entregamos
filialmente a Dios-Padre, tal como lo hizo Jesús. Seremos
tanto más perfectos y grandes, cuanto más imitemos ese
saberse y senƟrse niño de Cristo (hijo, de Jesús).
Y lo mismo si miramos a dos grandes santos de todos los
Ɵempos: Santa Teresita y San Francisco de Asís. Y si nos
preguntamos, por qué son santos tan grandes y tan amables,
la respuesta no es muy diİcil: Es porque eran perfectamente
niños ante Dios. Los dos vivían, en su Ɵempo, ejemplarmente
la acƟtud de la filialidad, sencillez, espontaneidad en su
relación con Dios-Padre.
Y así nos muestran también a nosotros el camino más rápido
y más eficaz para conseguir nuestra perfección crisƟana. Pero
el hombre moderno está enfermo: Él no quiere ser hijo de
Dios, más bien quiere sacar a Dios de su trono para ocuparlo
él. Uno de los grandes educadores suizos, Enrique Pestalozzi
opina que la calamidad más grande de la humanidad actual
es la pérdida del senƟdo filial.
Porque Dios puede desplegar su paternidad sólo cuando el
hombre es niño, cuando se abre filialmente ante Él. Lo que
nos fascina en el niño es, especialmente, su simplicidad y su
sencillez.
También nuestra filialidad es perfecta sencillez. Significa ser
grande y fuerte en la vida exterior, pero en la vida espiritual
ser ingenuo, franco, espontáneo. Significa ser auténƟcos
hombres y mujeres en el mundo, para ser niños ante Dios.
Cuando el hombre vuelve a ser niño ante Dios, cae todo lo
superfluo, todo lo accesorio, todo lo arƟficial.
La filialidad da una idea de la simplicidad y sencillez de Dios.
Porque Dios es la persona más simple, más sencilla que
existe. Entonces, cuanto más lleguemos a ser como los niños,
tanto más lograremos asemejarnos a Dios.
El Padre José Kentenich, Fundador del Movimiento Apostólico
de SchoenstaƩ, quien ha vivido ejemplarmente la filialidad
ante Dios y la paternidad ante muchos, nos dice: Si soy un
hombre filial, no me preocupo innecesariamente.
Dios ha preparado y previsto el plan de mi vida, y ya lo está
realizando. Lo que me toca en cada momento, está
determinado o permiƟdo por Él. Yo sé, por eso, que lo que el
Padre me manda, es siempre lo mejor para mí. Y esto me
basta.
Como niño vivo para el momento, y en cada momento
escucho del Padre lo que debo hacer. Debo decir sí a su plan, y
dejarme conducir por Él. Porque como hombre filial sé que mi
obra es grande sólo en la medida en que corresponda al deseo
del Padre. Y en este filial y alegre sí a mi camino, tengo la
solución de todos los enigmas de la vida.
Y voy cumpliendo, además, la condición para la entrada en el
cielo:
“Si no cambiáis y os hacéis como los niños,
no entrareis en el Reino de los cielos.” (Mt 18,3)
Queridos hermanos, pidámosle, por eso, a Cristo y María que
nos regalen algo de esa acƟtud de niño tal como tuvieron ellos
de un modo tan ejemplar.
¡Qué así sea!
