Sobre La emigración “irregular”: Dennisha Concepcion
Hay un par de problemas que enfrentan los inmigrantes al cruzar la frontera. Un gran problema
que tienen es ser atrapado por la policía. Otro problema es que pueden ser robados,
secuestrados, abusados, arrestados y otras cosas terribles que enfrentan al cruzar la frontera.
Puede ser realmente peligroso.
Algunas estrategias utilizadas por los inmigrantes para hacer el viaje con éxito es utilizar
identidades falsas como pasaportes falsos por ejemplo. Cambiaron sus nombres y mucho más.
Yo creo que no vale la pena para esta gente arriesgarse la vida para este viaje porque pueden
morir y sufrir otras cosas terribles. Pero también creo que merece la pena arriesgar la vida
para la gente que necesita apoyar a sus familias. Lo que quiero decir es que sí vale la pena y no
vale la pena ir a este viaje. Depende de la situación. Ser valiente, fuerte y tener fe les ayuda a
lograr este peligroso viaje que puede provocar muerte y otras cosas peores.
I think it´s not worth it for this people risk their lives to make it to the States because they
can die and suffer other terrible things. But I also think it's worth risking your life for people
who need to support their families. What I mean is that it is and is not it depending on the
situation. Being brave and strong and having faith helps immigrants achieve this perilous
journey that can cause death and other terrible things.
Sobre la Distribución de riqueza en los EE.UU: Yolanda Feliciano
No es justo que 1% de la población controle 43% de la riqueza. No es justo porque hay mucha
gente en este mundo y la gente que son parte del 1% no son las únicas personas que importa
en el mundo. Hay gente que necesita dinero también y deben distribuir el dinero justo.
It is not fair that 1% of the population controls 43% of the country´s wealth. There are many
people in this world and the people who are part of 1% are not the only people who matter
in the world. Some people need money too and we should distribute the money directly.
PAIDEA: ¡Gran éxito! Great success!
Este año los estudiantes de PFSJ participaron en diversas actividades
extracurriculares por un periodo de tres días entre el 22-23 de Enero. Las
actividades incluían un recorrido por cuatro Universidades, un gimnasio de escalar,
un restaurante local, y muchos otros lugares.
This year PFSJ students participated in various extracurricular activities for a
period of three days between January 22-23. Activities included a tour of four
universities, a local restaurant, rock climbing gym, and many other exciting places.

nervioso sobre todo los solistas”- El show mostró
el gran talento con lo que PFSJ cuenta entre sus
estudiantes.
A great success this year at PFSJ was the song
and dance show which was held at an auditorium
at HCC. Said participant Chelsea Garcia:
"On the day of the concert everyone was nervous
about all the soloists" The show was a
demonstration of the huge talent of some of the
students at PFSJ.

¿Qué en el mundo es eso? Estos son los tapires y ellos están en peligro de extinción.
Hay cuatro especies diferentes. Ellos asombrosamente no son relativos de los
elefantes pero son más cerca en relación con los caballos. Hay los Malayan, Baird’s,
Brazilian, Kobomani y Mountain tapires. Todos viven en Centro y Sudamérica menos
los Malayan que viven en Malasia. Debido a su gran tamaño, el tapir tiene pocos
depredadores naturales en el ambiente pero se sabe que es acosado de los gatos
salvajes como tigres, jaguares y pumas, junto con los grandes reptiles como
cocodrilos e incluso los serpientes como los anacondas.
What on earth is that!? Well they’re the baddest of the bad animal and they’re
sadly endangered. It’s called the Tapir. Surprisingly its not related to the
elephant but closer related to horses and rhinos. Their little trunks are called
prehensile trunks because they’re for gripping things. Their only real predators
are large cats and the occasional snake but what is really killing them is
poaching and habitat loss.

Antes de las vacaciones, PFSJ hizo un
viaje de estudio a un museo de la
ciencia y muchos de los estudiantes
lo disfrutaron. Había exposiciones
sobre el cuerpo humano y había
cuerpos verdaderos. Los cuerpos
estaban muertos y en conserva. Eran
los cuerpos de presos. Había una exposición de las estrellas
y las constelaciones. Todo el mundo creó que fue divertido.
Hacia el final del el viaje, fuimos al “teatro” y vimos una
película en 3-D.
Before Christmas break, PFSJ took a field trip to a science
museum and many of the students enjoyed it. There were
exhibits about the human body and they showed real human
bodies. The bodies were dead and preserved and they were
prisoners. There was an exhibit about outer space and the star
constellations. Everyone thought it was cool and fun. Towards
the end of the trip we went to the “theater” and watched a movie
in 3-D.

Jalene Rivera Black Veil Brides es un banda americana de rock basado de Hollywood, California. Ellos son considerados una banda “hardcore” o de
“emo” rock. Los miembros de la banda son Andy Biersack (vocalista), Ashley Purdy (vocales, guitarra baja), Jake Pitts (guitarra), Jinxx (guitarra

Black Veil Brides is an American rock band based in Hollywood California. They are considered a hardcore rock “emo” band.

Imagíne Dragones es un grupo Americano de rock alternativo de Las Vegas, Nevada. Mis favoritos de ellos son
“Radioactive”, “Demons” y “Monster” poque me puedo relacionar con los temas. Desde el principio ha sido el objetivo
del grupo tomar el dolor que han experimentado cada uno en sus propias vidas y comunicarlo en algo retentor y
edificante para todos a escuchar. Imagine Dragons is an American alternative rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. My
favorite songs of theirs are “Radioactive”, “Demons” and “Monster because I can really connect with the lyrics. From the
beginning it’s been the group’s goal to take the pain they've each experienced in their own lives and spin it into
something redemptive and uplifting for everyone to hear.
Nicki Minaj por Yamilex Torres Nicki Minaj Nació en diciembre 8, 1982 en Saint James, Trinidad y Tobago pero se crió en Queens N.Y. Su nombre al nacer era
Onika Tanya Maraj. Nicki tiene descendencia de indio y Trinidadeño. Ella es rapera, cantante, y actriz. Ella se crió con un padre abusivo y drogadicto quien trató
de encender la casa a fuego intentando matar a la madre de ella, pero afortunadamente, falló. Un tiempo después, ella fue para la escuela para cantar
y ser actriz. Hizo unos cuantos mixtapes y ella los puso en myspace. Así es que que ella fue descubierta por un hombre y después por Lil Wayne.

father that set the house she lived in on fire to try to kill her mother but fortunately he failed. Later on she went to a school for acting and singing. She made a
couple mixtapes and put it on her myspace. From there she eventually got discovered by Lil Wayne. She had made 2 albums which went platinum. Nicki’s top 3
songs were Starships, Pound The Alarm, and Va Va Voom. She later on was named most influential female rapper of all time. How interesting isn’t it? I like Nicki
Minaj a lot because she raps about that are true about life and relationships and she doesn’t care about what people say about her.

ellos y también les importa que yo pasé porque no

-Gracias.
-Para seguir aquí ¿cómo te gustan los estudiantes?
-Los estudiantes son buenos conmigo y yo hice
muchos nuevos amigos en esta escuela.
-¿Algo más que quieres decir?
-Nada más que yo soy bien chulo y que estos años
yo sé que voy a pasar de grado con los estudiantes
y los maestros.
-Hello, Mr.Rebollo what do u think of the school so
far?
-Well I think it’s a great school so far. The teachers
are really funny, they can take a joke and aren’t so
snotty or stuck up. Plus the teachers really care and
really want you to pass and never say things like “I
don’t care, I already finished high school.”
-That’s great Mr.Rebollo let me also add you look very
handsome.
-Thank you.
-Anyway, on with the interview so aside from
everything how are the students?
-The students are great and I’ve meet a lot of new
people and made a lot of new friends because I’m
popular like that.
-Fantastic Mr.Rebollo, anything else you would like to
add?
-Just that I’m great and with the excellent teachers,
students and staff I know I won’t be staying back this
year.

Yo nací en Tampa Florida cuando bebé yo solo veía a mi madre al lado mío
cuidándome... Y nunca me dejaba sola mi mai es madre y padre y por eso a ella la amo
mucho. Ella cogió la responsabilidad de saber los dos papeles y criarnos solita a mí y a
mi hermana y hermano...mientras mi padre nos abandonó y estaba en su mundo sin
importar si estábamos vivos... Ya que pasaron 15 años no creo que lo necesito
sinceramente al lado mío para nada porque cuando yo nací él no estaba. ¿Para qué lo
quiero ahora?...Después de tanto tiempo...mi madre Luz Diana Román ella es una
verdadera amiga de corazón. Ella es mi todo y nadie me conoce mejor que ella. Yo la
admiro mucho...cada mañana me levanto y veo esa hermosa mujer con su cabello negro
como la noche y su piel color canela y sus ojos achinados y digo
bálgame...ella sí es una mujer luchadora y fuerte, bella y
independiente y ¡yo estoy muy orgullosa de ella y yo seré como
ella luchadora y independiente!
I was born in Tampa Florida when I was baby I just saw my
mother beside me watching me ... And she never left me alone My Mother She took the
responsibility to know the two papers raise us alone and me and my sister and brother
... while my father left us and was in his world regardless of whether we were alive ...
Since I've been alive it been 15 years I do not honestly think I need him next to me at all
because when I was born he was not there. What does he want now? ... After all this
time ... my mother Luz Roman Diana she is a true friend of the heart. She's my
everything and no one knows me better than her. I admire her a lot ... every morning I
wake up and see this beautiful woman with her black hair like the night and her

Ella dice “Nunca he estado tan emocionada para venir a mi trabajo antes. Su consejo para la comunidad es para que todos estén amigables uno
con el otro. Ella dice “Nunca pensé que yo estaría una maestra, solo pasó y lo amo.”
Vero is the 9th grade English teacher at PFSJ. She thinks we have amazing students and staff and says “I have never been so excited to
come to work before” Her advice for the community is to be kind to each other. She also says “I never thought I would become a
teacher, it just happened and I love it.
Entrevista con Eric Frary por Thea Yvon
Eric Frary es un maestro de las ciencias en PFSJ. Viene de Easthampton, MA y eligió ser un profesor de ciencias
porque le gusta estar afuera en la naturaleza y sentarse en troncos y mirar a los pantanos. Quería trabajar en PFSJ
porque hay más oportunidades para enseñar la ciencia y la biología y para estar cerca de personas que creen en la

Eric Frary is a science teacher at PFSJ. He is from Easthampton, MA and chose to be a science teacher because
he likes being out in nature, sitting on logs and looking at the marshes. He wanted to work in PFSJ because there
are more opportunities to teach science and biology and be around people who believe in social justice and also he wanted to be part
of the mission of the school. He likes human ecology because it is interesting to explore how beings humans exploit the land.

Patrick O’Neil is the 10th grade geometry teacher at PFSJ. He likes teaching 10th graders and taught before at Dean Tech"
He said he heard about the school through schoolspring.com and that "I really am the only teacher who was born and
raised in Holyoke Massachusetts" I asked how he became a math teacher and he said: "I had a scholarship that paid me to
be a teacher"

J.R: ¿Cómo describirías los estudiantes de esta escuela?
J.H.R: Los estudiantes de esta escuela están llena de energía. Vienen de todo tipo de fondos que hace que
nuestra comunidad escolar muy vibrante. Me encanta trabajar en una escuela bilingüe'' es tan grande que muchos
estudiantes hablan dos o más idiomas, ya que tiene una lengua extranjera es una herramienta muy valiosa en la
vida. Espero que todos nuestros estudiantes trabajan duro para desarrollar sus habilidades en inglés y español. La
mayoría de nuestros estudiantes hablan español.
JR: How would you describe the students in this school?
JHR: Students at this school are full of energy. They come from all kinds of backgrounds which makes our
school community vibrant. I love working in a bilingual school ''it´s so great that many students speak two or more languages, and
having a foreign language is a valuable tool in life. I hope all our students work hard to develop their skills in English and Spanish.
Most of our students speak Spanish.

Español de herencia por Joalis García
Mi favorita clase es español de herencia. Unos temas que hemos estudiado son: cruzando la frontera (la emigración) y los
riesgos que pasaron los inmigrantes para ganar trabajo. Me gusta contar mis historias en la clase y los compañeros y el
maestro me escuchan. El estilo de enseñar de Julián es entretenido, conversacional, abierto y liberal.
My favorite class is Heritage Spanish. We have studied immigration and the dangers that immigrants face crossing
the border looking for jobs. I like to tell my stories in class and have the teacher and my classmates listen. Julian’s
teaching style is entertaining, conversational, open and liberal.
Improv por Génesis Santos
Mi clase favorita es la clase de Improv porque a mí me encanta actuar y el todo relacionado con el teatro, que ha formado una gran parte de mi
vida. Nosotros juntos como una clase hemos aprendido muchas aptitudes en actuación. También hemos aprendido cómo trabajar con alumnos
aunque no lo queremos. Nuestros aptitudes como un equipo crecieron desde estar tímidos y silenciosos hasta querer ofrecernos como
voluntarios para hacer una cierta pieza que la maestra nos dio para representar.
My favorite class here in this school is Improv because I really love acting and theater which has been a big part of my life. Together as
a class we have learned many skills in performing. Also we have learned how to work well with others even if sometimes we don’t want
to. Our skills as a team have grown from shy and quiet to volunteering to do a certain piece of work the teacher has given us to
perform.

Mi clase favorita es U.S Historia. Me gusta esta clase porque la profesora la hace divertida y no aburrida. Estamos aprendiendo acerca de la
historia. La forma que la profesora explica ciertos eventos es muy clara y fácil de entender. Los estilos que ella usa son la visualización,
tecnología en el aula y aprendizaje activo.
My favorite class is History U.S. I like this} class because the teacher makes it fun and not boring. We are learning about recent history.
The way the teacher explains certain events is very clear and easy to understand. She teaches visually, with classroom technology and
active learning.
Inglés por Thea Yvon
My favorite class is English. Even though English class is tough it is still fun to go to. We do really challenging essays and reading but aside from
that we always joke around and do fun things also. Ryan, who is my teacher is really nice and funny. Ryan always says “I’m going to make sure
you leave this school knowing how to write like a college student”. For some projects we can pick our own grade which is cool because we know
how much effort we actually put into it.
Mi clase favorita es el inglés. A pesar de que la clase de inglés sea difícil, todavía es divertido ir. Nosotros hacemos ensayos
desafiantes, pero aparte de eso siempre bromeamos y hacemos cosas divertidas también. Ryan, que es alguien realmente agradable y
divertido. Siempre dice "me voy a asegúrate de que te vayas de esta escuela sabiendo escribir como un estudiante universitario” Para
algunos proyectos que podemos elegir nuestro propio grado, que es genial, porque sabemos la cantidad de esfuerzo que realmente
ponemos en él proyecto.

The school system at PFSJ is great! I love how things are taught, I love coming to school every day because I'm actually learning. The staff

The teachers at Paulo Freire Social Justice Charter School are very understanding and dedicated to their students. The teachers help their
students until they understand the topic. They’re very understanding, if you’re not comfortable with speaking out loud in front of the class,
they’ll understand and move on to somebody else.
