14TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Isaiah 66:10-14
“Rejoice, Jerusalem,” says the prophet. Jerusalem’s days of
mourning are over; all will delight in her new found glory.
Second Reading: Galatians 6:14-18
St. Paul says the only thing he will boast about is the cross of
our Lord Jesus Christ. He owes everything to Christ.
Gospel: Luke 10:1-12. 17-20
Seventy-two people are sent out with what we would call today
a serious lack of preparation. Disciples should not waste time
on preparations for Christ’s mission.

Novena in Honor of
Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Preparatory Prayer
O Glorious Queen of Angels!
most pure and ever-blessed
Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel!
powerful advocate of all those who wear thy holy Scapular! Faithful Protectress of all the servants of thy Son, Jesus
Christ!
I, an unworthy sinner, do this day,
in the presence of thy beloved Son, my Savior, choose
thee for my Patroness, that, through thy intercession, I
may receive from Him whatsoever grace may be necessary
and profitable for me now and at the hour of my death.
Amen.
A Prayer to the Blessed Virgin
Never Found to Fail
(the “Flos Carmeli”, attributed to St Simon
Stock ca. 1200 AD)
O Most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel,
Fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven,
Blessed Mother of the Son of God.
Immaculate Virgin, assist me in
this necessity. O Star of the Sea,
help me and show me herein
you are my Mother.
O Holy Mary, Mother of God.
Queen of Heaven and Earth,
I humbly beseech thee from the
bottom of my heart to help me in
this necessity; there are none that
can withstand your power.
O, show me herein you are my Mother.
O Mary conceived without sin,
pray for us who have recourse to thee.
Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands.

FAITH DIRECT
Did you know that June 20 – the first day of summer – was
National eGiving Day? Our Lady of Mount Carmel can take particular joy in this celebration, as the response to eGiving in our
church has been wonderful.
To build on this success, I am setting a National eGiving Day
Challenge. My goal is for Our Lady of Mount Carmel families to
put envelopes on a permanent summer vacation and make the
switch to eGiving. This is especially important in the summer
months, when many families may be out of town some weekends and Our Lady of Mount Carmel does not receive their
envelopes. It’s easy for people to forget to catch up once
they’re back, and our weekly offertory can fluctuate as a result
– making it harder to predict how much we will have to sustain
our year-round ministries.
The more families who welcome the beginning of summer by
taking this National eGiving Day Challenge, the more consistency and predictable our offertory will be month after month –
and this will help us do even more to spread Christ’s love
throughout the community.
Being part of this challenge is simple:
Visit www.faithdirect.net and use our church code: NY370
Thank you for your continued support of our parish family with
your time and talents as well as treasure!
God Bless You,
Msgr. Sean G. Ogle

PRAYER OF THE WEEK
INDEPENDENCE DAY PRAYER
Lord, we stand today as our forefathers have stood
before You in times gone by,
Celebrating our history and revealing in all the great
things that our country has achieved.
On this day we rejoice in the favor You have graciously
given us.
We thank You for the blessings of liberty, for this generation and for the generations to come.
We thank You for our independence, peace and for all
those who have bravely given their lives in the defense of
freedom and justice.
We thank You that Your gracious and provident hand has
given us so much.
Yet as a nation and people we have not always chosen
the right way.
We ask You to forgive us for these times.
On this day we commit ourselves to wholeheartedly honoring and serving You.
With everything that we are, we lay our lives before You.
Make us a generous people,
A holy nation,
A people set aside to love You forever,
For the sake of the land of the brave and free,
And the peoples and nations of this world.
Today, we do not presume Your grace for our country.
Our land is in need of You,
Our people are in need of You,
Our industry and business is in need of You.
May we look only to You
This Independence Day, dependent on You.
Please come now by Your glorious Holy Spirit,
Breathe new life into the sinews of this nation.
May justice flow like rivers,
And righteousness like a never failing stream,
Until the whole of our country is covered with Your glory,
As the waters cover the sea.
We ask all this in the wonderful name of Jesus,
Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit.
One God, now and for all eternity.
Amen.
