Fun for all Ages. PASTOR’S MESSAGE ASSOCIATE PASTOR’S MESSAGE 33 W ith last Sunday’s celebration of Pentecost, we return to the portion of the liturgical year named Ordinary Time. It is called Ordinary Time because it is an ordered or numbered period of time in which the Sundays and weeks are numbered: First Sunday in Ordinary Time, Second Sunday, and so on until the Thirty-Third or Thirty-Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time. But the Sunday after Pentecost is special. The Sunday after Pentecost is the Solemnity of the Most Trinity and is commonly called Trinity Sunday. This particular Sunday is an opportunity to recall and reflect on “the central mystery of the Christian faith and of Christian life:” the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity (CCC 261). At Mass on Sundays, we typically recite the Nicene Creed after the homily. We begin the Creed by professing belief in one God: “I believe in one God.” We then proceed to confess belief in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is the Most Holy Trinity: one God in three Divine Persons. The Trinity is a mystery because we cannot fully understand how the three Divine Persons are one and the same God. Because the Trinity is a mystery, the Church has used different means over the centuries to convey this truth of faith. One traditional way to present the doctrine of the Trinity is with the Shield of the Trinity or Scutum Fidei (“ shield of faith” ). The Scutum Fidei presents the relationships between the three Divine Persons. The Shield of the Trinity We invoke the Trinity whenever we make the sign of the cross: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” We were baptized “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Notice the wording: “In the name of” and not “In the names of.” “Name” is singular because there is one God. Let us glorify the Triune God every day of our lives: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Fr. Richard A. Yevchak, IVE TEC is a three-day retreat weekend based on the Paschal Mystery: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Pathways TEC brings teens and adults together to be participants in encountering Christ as the family of God. MAY 31, 2015 4 Pray for Vocations to the priesthood and all religious life. - The number of men to be ordained to the priesthood in the United States this year could exceed the number from the previous year by more than 100. If all the men preparing for ordination do in fact receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders this year, the total would be 595. That's a 25% increase over the 477 that were ordained in 2014. Presented by The Mankato Serra Club for priestly and religious vocaƟons for more informaƟon call 507.696.8119. The Catholic Ministries Appeal thanks you for your generosity! Solemn High Mass for the Corpus Christi Thursday June 4th 5:15 pm Msgr Thomas Cook celebrant and Frs Aren and Mariano as deacons. —Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
