Dear Parents,
As Monroe staff, we are committed to provide
a strong instructional program for all our students.
With input from parent, staff and community members, Santa Ana Unified School District has developed
the Local Accountability Plan. Below are the three
main goals and some of our minor goals that will help
us achieve the main goals. Monroe School will focus
on these goals this year:
Goal 1: Our students need the knowledge, skills, and
values to become productive citizens in the 21st century.
Early Literacy Goals
1a: All students will be proficient readers by the end of
third grade.
1b: Reclassified within 5 years of entering program.
1c: All students will demonstrate readiness for Algebra
I before entering 9th grade.
Goal 2: Our students need equitable access to a
high quality curricular and instructional program that
is accessible from school and home.
Goal 3: Our students and staff need healthy,
safe and secure environments in which to learn.
In order to achieve these goals, we need your commitment:
1. Students must come to school everyday on time
2. Attend parent meetings to get informed about our
programs
3. Attend parent trainings that will give you strategies on how to get more involved with your child
as a parent
This year we will also be offering tutoring for all students who need the extra support in reading. As a
school we make the commitment to work hard to ensure your child improves academically. We hope that
you as a parent, partners with us for this goal!

It is very important that our students come to school
every day and arrive on time We will continue to select
the class that “BEAT THE BELL” on a monthly basis. We
will also have prizes for the classes that win the competition. We hope to encourage our students this way.

Estimados Padres,
El personal de Monroe esta comprometido a
ofrecer un programa academico fuerte para todos los
estudiantes.Con el apoyo de los padres, miembros ,
personal y la comunidad , el Distrito Escolar Unificado
de Santa Ana ha desarrollado el Plan de Responsabilidad Local. A continuación se presentan los tres principales objetivos y unas de las metas nos ayudarán a
lograr los objetivos principales. La Escuela Monroe, se
enfocara este ano en estas Metas:
Objetivo 1: Nuestros estudiantes necesitan los conocimientos, habilidades y valores para convertirse en ciudadanos productivos en el siglo 21 .
Los primeros objetivos de la alfabetización
1a: Todos los estudiantes serán buenos lectores al final
del tercer grado.
1b : Alumnos serán reclasificados dentro de los 5 años
de programa que entran.
1c : Todos los estudiantes demostrarán la preparación
para Álgebra I antes de entrar en el noveno grado.
Objetivo 2: Nuestros estudiantes necesitan tener acceso equitativo a un currículo de alta calidad y programa de instrucción que sea accesible desde la escuela y
el hogar.
Objetivo 3: Nuestros estudiantes y el personal
necesita un ambiente sano, y seguro en donde puedan
aprender.
Para alcanzar estas metas necesitamos su compromiso:
1. Los estudiantes deben venir a clases todos los dias a
tiempo
2. Debe asistir a las junta de padres para informarse
3. Debe asistir a los talleres de padres que le proveerán con estrategias para tener una buena relación
con sus hijos
Este año ofreceremos tutoria para los que necesitan
apoyo en la lectura. Como escuela hacemos el compromiso de asegurarnos que su hijo tenga un progreso
académico. Esperamos que como padre se asocie con
nosotros para alcanzar nuestra meta.

Es muy importante que los alumnos vengan a la escuela
todos los días y que lleguen a tiempo. Seguiremos con la
competencia de “WE BEAT THE BELL” (“Le ganamos a
la campana”). Los alumnos tendrán la oportunidad
de ganar premios y esperamos que esto sirva de motivación para que los alumnos asistan a la escuela cada día.

Family Fall Festival
This year Monroe Elementary will be celebrating the First Family Fall Festival
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30TH
2:30-5:30P.M
WE WILL HAVE A LOT OF FUN ACTIVITIES FOR THE CHILDREN
AND THEIR FAMILIES TO PARTICIPATE IN. WE WILL HAVE A
PETTING ZOO, JUMPERS, FACE PAINTING, MANY GREAT
GAMES, FOOD AND PRIZES.
In order to make this event possible we need the support and participation of all parents, families, staff,
and community members.
Picture Day:
Friday, October 16th, 2015
Studio 1 will be here on Friday, October 16th, to
take school pictures of students. Fliers with more
information and prices will be sent home soon.
Please be sure your child is on time this day as students begin taking pictures in the morning with
their class. A specific schedule is set up for classes
to follow.
Money is due on the day of pictures with the
order form.
We are very excited to make this event
happen and we hope to see you there!

breakfast fuels you up and gets you ready for the day.
In general, kids and teens who eat breakfast have more
energy, do better in school, and eat healthier throughout the day. Without breakfast, people can get irritable,
restless, and tired.

Este año la escuela Monroe celebrara el primer Festival de Otoño Familiar

ESTE AÑO TENDREMOS MUCHAS ACTIVIDADES DIVERTIDAS PARA TODOS LOS NIÑOS Y FAMILIAS. TENDREMOS
PASEOS EN CABALLITOS, UN PEQUEÑO ZOOLOGICO,
BRINCOLINES, PREMIOS, Y MUCHAS OTROS JUEGOS.
Para hacer este evento posible necesitamos del apoyo y
participación de todos los padres, estudiantes, familiares,
personal, y miembros de la comunidad.

Studio 1 estará aquí el viernes, 16 de octubre,
para tomarles fotos a los estudiantes de la escuela. Un recordatorio con más información y precios, será enviado a casa pronto. Por favor,
asegúrese de que su hijo(a) llegue a tiempo el día
de las fotografías ya que Studio 1 comienza por
la mañana y sigue un horario específico para cada una de las clases.

El desayuno es la comida mas importante del día. Un buen
desayuno nos prepara para el día. En general, los niños y adolescentes que desayunan tienen más energía, les va mejor en
la escuela, y comen más saludable durante todo el día. Sin
desayuno, nos podemos poner mas irritables, inquietos y cansados.
Así que haga tiempo para el desayuno - para usted y sus
niños!!

Bicycles must have a lock.
If your child rides a bike to school please be
sure they wear a helmet and have a lock to secure their bike every day. Students are not allowed to bring skateboards to school.

Parking Lot:
Drop-off and Pick-up zone is on the left parking lot side. Be sure to enter through the Delhi
Center Parking Lot to drop-off your children.
Please do not double lane when dropping off
your children. No left turn is allowed when
exiting the
parking lot after dropping off your child. Parents are not to drop off students in the Monroe
Staff Parking Lot. Lets be safe and show our
children we love them and value them.
Crosswalk:
Red Ribbon Week
This year Monroe School is participating in Red Ribbon
week from October 26-30st, 2015. During this time
students will be educated and reminded of the importance of living a healthy and drug free life.
Students will participate in various positive activities.
Halloween
There will be no Halloween events or parties at Monroe
School. Students are not to bring candy to school.
Please be sure your child comes to school in their regular uniform following the school dress code.
NO COSTUMES.

Please remember when bringing students to
school in the morning, they are to only cross
the street using the crosswalk. Before crossing
be sure to look on both sides of the street to
make sure no cars are coming.
Visitor Sign-in/ Volunteer Forms
For student and staff safety, we are asking
that all visitors sign in to the main office. You
will receive a visitor/volunteer pass, this way
we know who is on and allowed to be in campus
at all times. If you will be volunteering at any
time throughout the year, please submit the volunteers form with a copy of your identification.

Ha cambiado su número
telefónico?
Favor de llamar a la oficina cada vez que haya
un cambio en su número telefónico o en el
número de los contactos en casos de emergencia. Es vital que tengamos la información más
reciente de cada contacto.
Estacionamiento:
Para dejar y recoger a los niños en la escuela se
usa el estacionamiento izquierdo. Debe entrar
al estacionamiento por el centro de comunidad
Delhi. Los padres no deben dejar a sus hijos en
el estacionamiento del personal de la escuela.
No se permite girar a la izquierda al salir del
estacionamiento después de dejar a su hijo.
Tengamos cuidado y demostrémosle a nuestros
hijos que los queremos y valoramos.
Cruzando la Calle:
Semana Del Liston Rojo
Este año la Escuela Monroe participará en la semana
del Listón Rojo, del 26-30 de octubre del 2015. Durante este tiempo, los alumnos serán educados sobre la
importancia de vivir una vida saludable y libre de drogas. Los estudiantes participarán en diversas actividades positivas.
Halloween
No habrá eventos de Halloween ó fiestas en la Escuela
Monroe. Los estudiantes no deben traer dulces a la escuela. Por favor, asegúrese de que su hijo llegue a la
escuela con su uniforme regular...
NO DISFRACES
Gracias.
Por favor recuerde que cuando traiga a los
estudiantes a la escuela por la mañana, deben
cruzar la calle por el área indicada. Asegúrese
de ver a los dos lados de la calle antes de cruzar para ver que no vengan carros.
Visitantes/Voluntarios:
Pedimos a todos los visitantes que registren su
entrada y salida en la oficina. Usted recibirá
un pase de visita/ voluntario, de esta forma,
nosotros sabemos quién está en nuestra escuela
a todas horas. También si ustedes piensa ser
voluntarios por favor pase a la oficina a llenar

The Common Core Standard

Prior to common core, each state had a separate set of education standards, lists of skills that students are
expected to do by the time they promote to the next grade. In response to concerns about American student achievement and just how prepared students are for college and careers, education leaders in 48
states, along with the National Governors Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers
(CCSSO), have written a set of standards for student across the U.S.
As a parent it is important to know what is expected of our children. Here’s what you should know and
how to help your child prepare for the common core:
The Common Core Standards are State-Driven
The common core state standards are a set of learning skills that all
students should achieve. They set the benchmarks and guidelines
for what each student should learn. They are focused on students
being career and college ready. Students are focused on attaining
21st Century Skills.
Parent Idea: This year in Santa Ana, we will be implementing three
units of study. Parent received pamphlets on Back to School Night with information about grade level
standards. Ask your son or daughter’s teacher when the units will be implemented and ask your son or
daughter what they are learning about throughout the year.
Preparing students to be Career and College Ready
In general, standards set a progression of skills that students learn as they move through school from Kindergarten through Grade 12. The goal is that students are career and college ready and have the
skills to be successful in college and in the workplace.
Parent Idea: Review the standards for your child’s grade level and the grade level prior and after. California has adopted the new Common Core State standards. In Santa Ana, we distributed a common
core pamphlet explaining the common core standards for each grade level. If you did not receive
them ask your school’s office for a copy.
Students will gain a Deeper understanding of the Core Concepts
The common core state standards focus on the important topics that students need to know and go more in
depth into a few concepts. In math, that means that students focus on really understanding numbers in elementary school and ill need to be able to solve problems with various responses instead
of just one.
Parent Idea: As your child completes homework, help them hone in on the most important aspects and
core concepts. Your child should also be able to explain how and where they found an answer.
The Reading Standards will Get More Difficult
As the common core is implemented, students will be expected to read more difficult text sooner, and discuss what they read at a more complex level. For example, instead of pulling out individual text
elements, such as characters, plot, and setting, students will be reading or listening to various stories, and will compare stories using their understanding of text elements.
Parent Idea: As you read with your children, ask them in-depth why and how questions that encourage
them to analyze, evaluate and synthesize texts. For example, read three different versions of the Goldilocks
and the Three Bears and ask your child to compare and contrast them as you read. Ask your child to show
you where they find the evidence to be able to answer the questions you ask. We have included bookmarks
with questions to ask your child as they are reading.
Focus on Informational Text
To prepare students for college-level work and career, there will be more of a focus on informational and
expository text. In middle school especially, students will be reading informational text, including
original documents, from the Declaration of Independence to presidential speeches.
Parent Idea: Encourage your children to research topics they interested in using informational texts and
original documents. Ask students to make sure they include where they find information and to
find evidence that supports their research.

Los Estándares Estatales Básicos Comunes es un set de habilidades de aprendizaje que todos los estudiantes deberán lograr. Establecen reglas y metas según el grado
de cada alumno, y se enfocan en prepararlos para que estén preparados para la Universidad y para
una carrera profesional. Estos estándares también se enfocan en ayudar a que nuestros alumnos tengan
habilidades del siglo 21.
Idea Para Los Padres:
Este año en Santa Ana, estaremos implementando tres unidades de estudio. Los padres recibieron folletos la
Noche de Regreso a Clases con información acerca de los estándares de acuerdo con los grados. Pregunte
al maestro/a de sus hijos acerca de las fechas en las cuales estas unidades serán cubiertas, y durante el ciclo escolar pregúntele a sus hijos acerca de lo que están aprendiendo.
Preparando a Los Estudiantes Para La Universidad y Una Carrera

En general, los estándares proporcionan habilidades de progreso que los estudiantes aprenden desde
que entran al Kínder, hasta terminar el grado 12. La meta es que los estudiantes estén preparados y
que tengan las habilidades para tener éxito en la universidad y en la carrera que elijan.
Idea Para Los Padres:
Repasen los estándares del grado actual de sus hijos al igual que los de el grado anterior y el próximo. El
estado de California ha adoptado los nuevos Estándares Estatales Básicos Comunes, y en la ciudad de Santa
Ana hemos distribuido un folleto con estos estándares para cado grado. Si usted no recibió este folleto,
puede obtener una copia en la oficina de la escuela
Los Estudiantes Obtendrán un Entendimiento Profundo de Los Conceptos Centrales
• Los Estándares Estatales Básicos Comunes se enfocan en los temas importantes que los estudiantes deben
saber, y también se enfocan mas a fondo en ciertos conceptos. En la materia de las Matemáticas, esto significa que los estudiantes de primaria se enfocan en realmente entender los números y así poder contestar
los problemas con más de una respuesta.
Idea Para Los Padres:
Mientras sus hijos hacen la tarea ayúdelos en los aspectos y conceptos centrales. Sus hijos deberían poder
explicar cómo y dónde encontraron la respuesta.
Los Estándares de Lectura Tendrán Mas Dificultad
 Conforme se implementen los Estándares, se espera que los estudiantes lean texto difícil con mas rapidez, y que puedan discutir lo que hayan leído a un nivel mas complejo. Por ejemplo, en vez de utilizar
elementos textuales individualmente, como personajes, locación, y el trama de una historia, ellos estarán leyendo y escuchando múltiples historias y así comparándolas usando su entendimiento de los
elementos textuales
