the bread and wine that is offered, and of course in the way par
excellence, we remembered one another in the Priest’s Mass
Intention that is lifted up with the help of all of our other

5 APRIL 2015
A Divine Mercy Sunday Encounter with
Christ Jesus, Risen From The Dead!
Place: (Every Church)
Date: (11/12 April 2015)
Time: (Every Mass)
(The scene opens in the absolutely beautiful church of Our Holy
Redeemer in Freeport, New York where the Priest has just arrived at the
Celebrant’s Chair. The music is playing, some of the people are singing,
and as the Priest is preparing to collect the prayers of the gathered
assembly, he is cut to the heart by the Presence of Christ Jesus Risen from the Dead and addresses that
Presence.)
Priest: You seek Isabela, Elizabeth, Anthony, Antonio, Therese, and Theresa. They are not here. (Interiorly the
Priest points to empty pews throughout the church.) Behold the place where they were on Easter Sunday.
Christ: I know where they were on Easter Sunday. I rose to meet them. Where are they today?
Priest: I am sorry Lord. I do not know where they are. (With that, the music stops playing, all the people stop
singing, and the Priest begins in the usual way): “In the () Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy
Spirit. The Lord be with you.”)

“You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the Crucified. He has been raised; He is not here. Behold the place where they
laid Him.” (Saint Mark XVI:6) Anyone and everyone who came home for the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday
heard those words proclaimed. Even if you were not amongst those who came home for the Vigil, it is very
likely that those words are familiar to you never-the-less. They are the words that greeted Mary Magdalene,
Mary, the mother of James, and Salome when “very early when the sun had risen, on the first day of the week,
they came to the tomb.” (Saint Mark XVI:2)
The women at the tomb that morning didn’t get it; for they did not yet
understand the Scripture that He had to rise from the dead.” (Saint John
XX:9) That understanding would come when they joined the disciples who
were gathered together on the evening of that first day of the week and
Jesus came and stood in their midst (cf. Saint John XX:19) in the Upper Room
where on Holy Thursday just a few days earlier He said: “this is My Body”;
“this is My Blood”.
It is in the Upper Room where Jesus continues to rise and meet anyone and everyone who seeks Him. If there
is something about that rising again that you still don’t understand/that you still don’t get, keep coming home
and you will recognize Him in the breaking of the bread (cf. Saint Luke XXIV:35).
Easter 2015
Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Risen Lord:
How changed is the world this Easter morn! How wondrous the truth on the lips of His faithful
disciples! Can there be any chant more beautiful, any news more desired, any heart that could
seek for more? Jesus Christ is Risen! It is true! He is Risen! Alleluia! The long Lent of human
history was ended that first Easter Sunday morn when Mary Magdalen discovered that the
tomb was empty and the body of her beloved Lord was missing. But that body, cruelly put to
death on the tree of Calvary, was not missing. It was transformed! It was glorified! For the Son
of God made man fulfilled His destiny on this earth and so transformed our destiny from sin
and death to life in Him, life eternal.
You and I are the recipients of the long journey of love that Jesus travelled from Galilee to
Jerusalem, from birth in a stable to death on a cross. When Jesus took that sign of death and
made it the sign of glory, He accomplished the will of the Father Who so loved the world that
He sent His Son not to condemn but to save the world. And this is the salvation which is ours:
Life in Christ Jesus, Life eternal!
My prayer this Easter is that we all with deep faith acknowledge with joy and gratitude that
God’s love triumphed in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead and that His resurrection gives
us our new destiny: we share His divine life now and will share it with Him forever in glory! My
prayer is that we all participate in Mass this Easter Sunday as a pledge of our fidelity to Him
Who died and rose. My prayer is that we greet one another with that ancient greeting of
Christians: Christ is Risen! He is truly Risen! Alleluia!
If we do that then I am confident we will be renewed in His life and we will be so filled with His
Spirit that we will seek to share His life with others and witness His life to the world. I am
confident that we will be more eager to care for the sick, reach out to the poor, bear one
another’s burdens and be true brothers and sisters by prayer and action to all who need us in
our parishes, our communities, our nation and the world. The world needs the witness of our
faith in the Risen Christ. The world needs the witness of our hope for the future. The world
needs our love that embraces all those whom our Savior embraced from the cross. May they
too share in the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! For He is Risen. He is truly
Risen! Alleluia!

WHAT DO WE DO NOW?
(with help from Pope Saint John Paul II)
URBI ET ORBI MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS JOHN PAUL II
EASTER SUNDAY 15 APRIL 1979
1. Resurrexit tertia die...
The third day he rose again...
Today, together with the whole Church, we repeat these words with particular emotion.
We repeat them with the same faith with which—on this very day—they were said for the
first time. We say them with the same certainty that the eye-witnesses of the events put
into this phrase. Our faith comes from their testimony, and that testimony sprang from
seeing, hearing, meeting face to face, touching the pierced hands, feet and side.
The witness sprang from the Fact; yes, on the third day Christ rose again.
Today we repeat these words with all simplicity, because they come from people of
simplicity. They come from hearts that love, and that have so loved Christ as to be
capable of passing on and preaching nothing else but the truth about Him:
Crucifixus sub Pontio Pilato passus et sepultus est.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, died and was buried.
Thus sound the words of this testimony. And with the same simplicity of truth they continue to proclaim:
et resurrexit tertia die.
The third day he rose again
This truth, upon which as upon the "cornerstone" (cf. Eph 2:20) the whole edifice of our faith is based—today we
wish once more to share this faith among us, one with another, as the fullness of the Gospel. We confessors of
Christ, we Christians, we the Church. And, at the same time, we wish to share it with all those who are listening to
us, with all men and women of good will.
We share it joyfully, for how could we not be filled with joy for the victory of Life over Death?
Mors et vita duello conflixere mirando!
Dux vitae, mortuus, regnat vivus!
The Lord of life was dead; but now He is alive and triumphs
(Easter Sequence).
2. How could we fail to rejoice at the victory of this Christ, Who passed through the world doing good to everyone
(cf. Acts 10:38) and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom (cf. Mt 4:24), in which is expressed the fullness of the
redemptive goodness of God? In it man has been called to the highest dignity.
How can we fail to rejoice at the victory of Him Who was so unjustly condemned to the most
terrible passion and death on the Cross; at the victory of Him Who first was scourged,
buffeted, spat upon, with such inhuman cruelty?
How can we fail to rejoice at the revelation of the power of God alone and at the victory of
this power over sin and human blindness?
How can we fail to rejoice at the victory definitively won by good over evil?
This is the day that the Lord has made!
This is the day of universal hope. The day on which there gather about the Risen One, and
join with Him, all human sufferings, disappointments, humiliations, crosses, human dignity violated, human life not
respected, oppression, repression, all the things that cry aloud:
Victimae paschali laudes immolent Christiani
To the paschal victim let there rise today the sacrifice of praise!
The Risen One does not go away from us; the Risen One comes back to us.
"But you must go and tell His disciples and Peter, 'He is going before you...'" (Mk 16:7). He comes everywhere,
where people most await Him, where sadness and fear are greatest:, where misfortune and tears are greatest. He
comes to shed the light of the Resurrection upon everything that is subjected to the darkness of sin and death.
3. As He enters the Upper Room though the doors were shut, the Risen Christ greets His disciples gathered there
with the words:
"Peace be with you" (Jn 20:20).
These are the first words of His Easter message.
How great is the good in this peace that He gives us, and that the world cannot give (cf. Jn 14: 27). How closely it is
linked with His coming and His mission!
How necessary for the world is His presence, the victory of His Spirit, the order coming from His commandment of
love, so that men and women, families, nations, continents may enjoy peace.
Today, this greeting of the Risen One, expressed to the Apostles in the Upper Room in Jerusalem—we wish to
repeat this greeting from this place, and address it to wherever it is particularly relevant and particularly awaited.
Peace to you, peoples of the Middle East.
Peace to you, peoples of Africa.
Peace to you, peoples and countries of distant Asia.
Peace to you, brothers and sisters of Latin America.
Peace to you, peoples who live in the various social, economic and political systems!
Peace! As the fruit of fundamental order; as the expression of respect for every human
being's right to life, to truth, freedom, justice and love.
Peace of consciences and peace of hearts. This peace cannot be had unless each one of us
has the awareness of doing everything in his or her power so that a life worthy of the
children of God will be ensured from the first moment of their existence, for all men and
women—brothers and sisters of Christ, loved by Him even to death. I am thinking at this moment in particular of
all those who are suffering for the lack of what is strictly necessary for existence, of all who suffer from hunger, and
above all of the little children, who—in their weakness—are the ones who are specially loved by Christ and to
whom is dedicated this year, the International Year of the Child.
May the Risen Christ inspire in all, Christians and non-Christians—sentiments of solidarity and of generous love
towards all our brothers and sisters in need.
4. Surrexit Christus, spes mea!
Dear brothers and sisters! How eloquent for us is this Day, which speaks with all the truth
of our origin. Christ Jesus Himself is the cornerstone of our whole edifice (cf. Eph 2:20-21).
This stone, cast aside by the builders that God has bathed in the light of the Resurrection, is
placed at the very foundation of our faith, our hope and our love. It is the primary reason
of our vocation and of the mission that each one of us receives at Baptism.
Today we wish to rediscover this vocation, to claim this mission for our own once more.
We wish to let it be filled once more with the joy of the Resurrection. We wish to bring it
near to all people, to those who are near and to those who are far off.
Let us share this joy with one another.
Let us share it with the Apostles, with the women who were the first to bring the news of the Resurrection.
Let us unite ourselves with Mary.
Regina caeli, laetare!
Man can never lose the hope of the victory of good.
May this day become for us today the beginning of a new hope.
Now a Word (about Easter) from Our Saints
The Paschal Sacrament Brings Together
in Unity of Faith Those Who are Far Away
(FROM AN EASTER LETTER BY SAINT ATHANASIUS, BISHOP)
“Brethren, how fine a thing it is to move from festival to
festival, from prayer to prayer, from holy day to holy day.
The time is now at hand when we enter on a new beginning:
the proclamation of the blessed Passover, in which the Lord
was sacrificed. We feed as on the food of life, we constantly
refresh our souls with His precious Blood, as from a fountain.
Yet we are always thirsting, burning to be satisfied. But He
Himself is present for those who thirst and in His goodness
invites them to the feast day. Our Saviour repeats His
words: If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
He quenched the thirst not only of those who came to Him
then. Whenever anyone seeks Him He is freely admitted to
the presence of the Saviour. The grace of the feast is not
restricted to one occasion. Its rays of glory never set. It is always at hand to enlighten the
mind of those who desire it. Its power is always there for those whose minds have been
enlightened and who meditate day and night on the holy Scriptures, like the one who is
called blessed in the holy psalm: Blessed is the man who has not followed the counsel of the
wicked, or stood where sinners stand, or sat in the seat of the scornful, but whose delight is in
the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night.
Moreover, my friends, the God Who first established this feast for us allows us to celebrate it
each year. He who gave up His Son to death for our salvation, from the same motive gives us
this feast, which is commemorated every year. This feast guides us through the trials that
meet us in this world. God now gives us the joy of salvation that shines out from this feast,
as He brings us together to form one assembly, uniting us all in spirit in every place, allowing
us to pray together and to offer common thanksgiving, as is our duty on the feast. Such is
the wonder of His love: He gathers to this feast those who are far apart, and brings together
in unity of faith those who may be physically separated from each other.”
Please Pray for Our Priests…,

as ministers and stewards of Your mysteries may be found faithful in carrying out the ministry
they have received. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You

WHAT DO YOU DO . . .
. . .when inclement weather or sickness prevents you from attending Sunday Mass at Our
Holy Redeemer, or family/business obligations take you to Sunday Mass somewhere other
than Our Holy Redeemer? More than likely, if you use Parish Envelopes to make your
offering, you will place “Sunday-missed” envelopes in the Offertory basket the next time you attend Mass.
If you don’t use envelopes, it is more than likely that your Sunday-missed offering will remain missing,
which makes it very hard for Our Holy Redeemer to pay bills and provide services.
E-Giving, like Offertory Envelopes (thank you for using them) provides you with a way of exercising faithful
stewardship even when inclement weather or sickness prevents you from attending Sunday Mass at Our
Holy Redeemer, or when family/business obligations take you to Sunday Mass somewhere other than Our
Holy Redeemer.
I USE E-GIVING!
Question: What is E-Giving?
Answer:
E-Giving is short for electronic giving. It is an automatic transfer program
which allows you to make contributions without writing checks.
Question: What are the advantages of E-Giving?
Answer:
It saves time and work! It helps the church stabilize its budget. Surveys have
shown that it can enhance the total amount of gifts to your organization. Members
or supporters may donate while on vacation or on a business trip anywhere in the
world.
ENROLLING
Question: How do I enroll in E-Giving?
Answer:
On your computer, go to the Parish Web site, www.ohrfreeport.org and then
click on the “Donate” tab and then on “Donate Now” tab and then submit
our zip code, 11520, then click on “Donate Now” under the Our Holy
Redeemer name, then click on the “Register Now” tab and follow the simple
instructions.
PAYMENT METHODS
Question: If there is a credit card charge, how does the charge appear on the payee's statement? Is it
to E-Giving or Our Holy Redeemer? How would the person who makes a charge recognize
where the charge went from the description on their statement?
Answer:
The charge appears as E-Giving. E-Giving combined with the date and amount on their
statement should be all they need.
For more information about E-Giving visit the secure web site at www.e-giving.org.

FAITH AND MUSIC
Notes from our Music Director, Michael Crouse
How about another exciting Concert Series on the Mile?!
Last summer Our Holy Redeemer sponsored our first concert series
at 175 Woodcleft Avenue, also home of our weekly "Mass on the
Waterfront". Under the direction of Michael Crouse, we provided
six evenings of wonderful and varied entertainment, culminating
with a sacred and Americana program given by members of our
choir. We had such artists as These Three Tenors, Andy Cooney, The
Belles of Broadway and more. Many in attendance have been
asking if we are going to do it again...and the answer is...with your
help...YES!
We are asking for both your input and your donations to raise enough funds to support this summer's
series. At the end of this page there are a few questions that will help us to plan the best evenings for
these programs, so that as many of you as possible may attend.
We also plan to create a decorative plaque with the names of each person, business, or family who donates
$100.00 dollars (or more) towards the funding of the series, which will be permanently displayed at
175 Woodcleft Avenue.
We hope many more will take advantage of these wonderful evenings of music, and we need your help in
spreading the word!
It would be of great assistance if you would take the time to answer the following questions, and then
return the questionnaire to the rectory by _________________________:
1. Were you able to attend any of the concerts last summer?
If yes, how many? _________ Did you find it an enjoyable evening?

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
He is Risen! Truly Risen! The Gospel story of today is a story of faith. The Apostles did not
understand the resurrection yet. They hardly believed in it, but now they see proof. The tomb
was empty and the burial cloths and the cloth that had covered the head of the dead Jesus were
rolled up in a separate place and left behind. Jesus was no longer in the grave! He was no longer
dead! He had risen! HE WOULD NEVER AGAIN NEED BURIAL CLOTHS! How should this affect
us? To quote Saint Paul in today’s Second Reading: “Brothers and sisters: If then you were
raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God” (See John
20:1-9 and Colossians 3:1-4). Saint Paul is telling us that WE HAVE BEEN RAISED WITH HIM, that we
are no longer dead in sin, that we are alive in Christ. So, as Saint Paul says: do not seek what is of
this world, rather, “seek what is above.” Ask yourself, what am I seeking? What is it my utmost
concern? The answer to that question is a good indication of your faith in the Resurrection.
Because, if we really believe that we have been raised with Him, then, we will seek first and
foremost the things that are above, that is, all the good things that will show we are in union with the Resurrected
Christ. All the good things that show that we are EASTER people, yes, people of the Resurrection!

Who Are The Catholic Daughters?
Today as we celebrate Easter Sunday
of the Resurrection of our Lord,
we find the challenge of also seeing and
believing the resurrection that comes
through our own lives of self-sacrifice
which brings new life to others.
Your gift to the Society of Saint Vincent de
Paul will show the love of Christ Jesus
Risen from the dead by bringing your
love to those who live in fear
and doubt, loneliness and dread.
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the
oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women
in the Americas.
They donate to charities, administer scholarship programs
and strive “to be helping hands where there is pain,
poverty, sorrow or sickness.”
Catholic Daughter women enjoy each other’s company
at monthly meetings and work hard for their parishes
and communities. Their motto is
“Unity and Charity”

Sacerdote: Tú buscas a Isabel, Antonio y Teresa.
