MAFEX, the Spanish Railway Association, is arranging its group participation in the InnoTrans trade
fair for the fourth consecutive edition.
Participation in the trade fair has stood out in the latest events due to the spectacular growth in the
number of Spanish companies taking part. This impressive figure serves to illustrate the evolution that
the Spanish railway industry has itself undergone specially during the last two decades.
What has been particularly spectacular in the case of Spain, has been the development seen in the field
of railway material, especially in all that relates to high-speed rail, but also in long-distance passenger
transport as well as urban transport in all its aspects - tram, underground and commuter trains. This
progress has been possible thanks to the decisive support both from the government, on a economic
and political level, as well as from the society as a whole. Here we must, without doubt, make a special
mention to the large number of Spanish companies which, as a result of Spain’s backing the railway,
have developed excellent highly advanced products and solutions and have trained up outstanding
professionals for the sector. All this has lead to Spain being placed in the international vanguard in all
that concerns the railway sector.
Adding to the development of the sector in Spain is the growing interest in the railway as a means of
transport, no longer just to destinations within our country, but now also to those outside it: the railway
as a means of international travel. The railway is, without any doubt, a highly efficient passenger
and freight transport solution in terms of energy saving and environmental impact. Moreover, it also
presents an enormous variety of benefits of various kinds in relation to other transport solutions such
as those of road and air, which, in any case, it is complemented by, and with which, in many cases, it
interacts.
With all of this, it is a pleasure for MAFEX, as the Association which brings together the main national
companies in the sector, to provide you with an overview of the Spanish presence at InnoTrans 2012
in the following pages.
All that remains is for me to invite you to visit us at the trade fair, where you will be able to learn more
about the Spanish railway industry and what it has to offer.

MAFEX, la Asociación Ferroviaria Española, organiza por cuarta edición consecutiva la participación
agrupada española en la feria de INNOTRANS.
La participación en la feria ha destacado en las últimas ediciones por su espectacular crecimiento en
cuanto a número de empresas españolas participantes. Esta importante cifra viene a representar la
gran evolución que la propia industria ferroviaria española ha sufrido en las últimas décadas.
En el caso español ha sido espectacular el desarrollo acontecido en los últimos años en materia ferroviaria,
tanto en todo lo relativo a la Alta Velocidad especialmente, pero sin dejar de lado el transporte de
pasajeros de larga distancia, o el urbano en todas sus vertientes -Tren Ligero, Metro y Cercanías-.
Todo este desarrollo se ha basado en un apoyo decidido tanto por parte de la Administración, a nivel
económico y político, como por el conjunto de la sociedad. Pero sin duda, debemos hacer mención
especial al gran número de empresas españolas que, como consecuencia de esta apuesta de España
por el ferrocarril, han desarrollado excelentes productos y soluciones de alto contenido tecnológico, y
han formado destacados profesionales para el sector. Todo ello ha contribuido a situar a España y a su
industria ferroviaria a la vanguardia internacional en lo referido al sector ferroviario.
Sumado a este desarrollo del sector en nuestro país, se añade el cada vez mayor y creciente interés
existente por el modo de transporte ferroviario, ya no sólo en nuestro país, si no en general a nivel
internacional. El ferrocarril es sin duda una solución de transporte de personas y de mercancías
eficiente desde el punto de vista del ahorro energético, respetuoso con el medio ambiente y que
además presenta multitud de beneficios de variada índole en relación a otras soluciones de transporte
tales como el de carretera o aviación, con las que en cualquier caso se complementa en muchos casos
e interactúa.
Con todo esto, es para MAFEX un placer, como Asociación que agrupa a las principales empresas
nacionales del sector, presentarles a través de estas páginas y de forma breve, la presencia española en
la edición de INNOTRANS 2012.
Sólo nos queda invitarles a visitarnos en la feria de tal modo que puedan conocer mejor a la industria
