Get ready…
Divine Compassion
The impact of the
miracle contained in
today’s Gospel is
heightened by the
brevity and restraint
with which Luke presents his account of it.
Up to this point Jesus
has manifested the
presence of God’s life-giving power with him by
healing the blind and the deaf and the lame. Now he
calls back to life someone who has crossed over into the
realm of the dead.
Although the miracle clearly reveals the presence of a
divine power, it is recounted in such a way as to emphasize the love and compassion that motivated Jesus to
perform it. The dead man was an only son and his
mother a widow. It is not difficult to imagine the feelings of loss and desolation of such a woman. Seeing her
Jesus is deeply moved. He resolves to come to her aid
in the most significant way that anyone possibly could.
The act of resuscitation is brought about with a simple
word. Jesus speaks, and the man comes back to life.
With this, however, the incident is not yet complete.
The text stresses that “Jesus gave him back to his
mother.” The phrase underlines again that the story is as
much about divine compassion as it is about God’s
life-giving power.
—Preparing for Worship
Join us for our next PRAYER CLASS on
The Liturgy of the Hours
Tuesday, June 8th
10am in the Parish Hall
Engaging your spiritual life can
be hard. Routines are difficult
to start and usually more
difficult to maintain. If you find
yourself struggling in your
prayer life or looking for something more, the Liturgy of the
Hours might be your answer!
What is it exactly, who prays it,
who should pray it and how do you pray it? Learn more
at this last prayer class before we break for the summer.
St. Didacus
Church’s 4th
Annual
KERMES
IS NEXT
WEEK!
Sunday, June 12th
8:00am-2:00pm
Get ready to buy great Mexican food like:
tamales, tacos, corn, nachos and more! And get
ready to play games and win raffle prizes! This is
a fun community event so plan on joining us!
Don’t forget to dress up in the style of the
1920’s to celebrate our Kermes and the
90th Anniversary of our church!
We are still in
need of prizes
for the
Tombola!
Tickets are $1
to play the
Tombola and
everyone is a winner—that’s why we
need LOTS of prizes! If you have new or
like-new items that you would like to
donate, please bring them to the Parish
Office this week. Thank you!
Congratulations to
Msgr. Robert Ecker
“Father Bob”
on the
65th Anniversary
of his Ordination to
the Priesthood on
June 9th!
Our parish is
blessed by
Fr. Bob’s faithful
service as our regular Monday Mass
celebrant and by his many other generous
ways. Thank you, Fr. Bob!

Stewardship—Building up the Community of God
Current number of Registered Families receiving envelopes: 691 — 158 of whom tithed last weekend using their envelopes
Our GOAL this year: ALL parishioners tithing each week!
Providing collection envelopes is a large expense. If you don’t use your envelopes,
it is money wasted by the parish. Please contribute using your envelopes.
The Joy of Giving
Amount we need each week to cover parish operating costs:
General Collection, May 29, 2016:
Deficit for the week of May 29, 2016:
Building Fund—May 29, 2016:
—
$7,155.00
$4,777.00
$2,378.00
$ 219.00
The Stewardship lifestyle is one of service, putting God first and to “love one another.” Unfortunately today, many people have “passion” for
activities they enjoy - their job and off-work activities. Many times our “passion” to excel is at the expense of someone else. Maybe we need
to focus on a little less passion for our individual concerns and a lot more compassion for others.

DIOCESE OF SAN DIEGO
Queridos amigos,
Rev. Obispo Robert W McElroy
