Hello Arlington Families,
Just think.....less than 2 months left of the school year! Where did the time go???
We ended February with our annual "Pennies for Patients" drive. To coincide with the
100th Day of School, students were asked to donate "100 pennies". Every cent
collected, was donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). The LLS is the
largest voluntary cancer research agency that specifically focuses on treatment and
research for blood cancers. Working in the health care field, campaigns and agencies
such as the LLS are near and dear to my heart. I also appreciate the fact that it allows
us to teach our kids the importance of donating to those in need. Thank you to those
who participated in this worthwhile cause. And thank you to Jan Hirata who
spearheaded this drive.
Schools nationwide celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday by participating in the "Read Across
America" program. Arlington joined in on the fun and brought in people from various
backgrounds and careers to read Dr. Seuss books to our Superstars. Thank you to
Nancie Fukushima for organizing this fun and educational event.
Our Arlington Superstars were treated to a magic assembly & the kids oohed and awed
as Magician Brock Edwards performed his jaw dropping magic And if that wasn't enough,
he stepped it up a notch at our Family Magic Night and dazzled our families with his
state of the art magic. He even sawed our very own Principal Dr. Hath in half! Thank you
Diane Wang for arranging such a wonderful night for our families to enjoy together!
The 3rd through 5th Graders got the chance to jump on their bikes and participate in
the Bike Rodeo. Our bicyclists were required to show off their skills by riding through
various obstacles and perform tricky maneuvers. Congratulations to our top performers
as they represent Arlington in the District Bike Rodeo! Thank you to Karry Kiyonaga for
chairing & organizing this event for our school.
Hurray! Another successful Jog A Thon for Arlington Elementary! A heartfelt thank
you to the GENEROUS families we have here at our precious school! We were able to
raise over $20,000 for our school and ultimately for our kids! Our Superstars did an
awesome job as they ran their hearts out around the track. Each and every year I am
humbled by all of the effort set forth by the families and volunteers, the generosity,
and school spirit that is portrayed here at Arlington. Thank you to Jan Hirata for
chairing yet another successful and organized fundraiser!
Until next time, be safe, be well, stay healthy.

Principal’s Message
Dear Arlington Families,
I can’t believe April is almost over; May will be here before you know it! The month of May marks the beginning of State
Testing for our 2nd – 5th grade Super Stars as well as big celebrations of thanks to our Arlington Teachers and Staff! Please
join me in sharing my gratitude to every employee of Arlington School for all the dedication, hard work, and devotion to our
students! Thank you, Arlington Teachers and Staff!
Be sure to mark your calendars, as testing is coming up for our 2nd through 5th graders. Please as it mentions below,
students cannot be removed from classrooms once testing begins. I have had parents beg to have their student removed
for that dentist appointment which was made 6 months ago and we cannot comply. So, please look at your calendars, and
then put a big X on their testing dates. Thank you for your support and understanding.
STATE TESTING The month of May marks the beginning of state-wide testing. The CSTs - California State Tests – are
administered to all 2nd – 5th grade students. Please look over the schedule to see when your child will be participating in
State tests. Please try to get your child to school on time, well rested, and fed with a nutritious breakfast. A well balanced
meal will help your child stay alert and focused throughout the tests. We ask that all families reserve these dates as
appointment free, especially in the morning! Testing will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue through until 11:00 a.m.
Classrooms cannot be interrupted during the timelines (9-11) which is why it is vital all students get to school on time.
Students cannot be pulled out once testing sessions start.

We are about half-way through our 5th and last project of
the year – Dappled Sunlight. The students have been learning
how to create sunlight shining through trees using acrylic paint
and Q-tips. They have been making some beautiful paintings!
Thank you to the families that have donated items such as wipes,
pencils, paper and labels. We appreciate you all so much. Thank you to all of the parents who have taken time out of their
busy schedules to assist our docents with the projects this year. We couldn’t have done it all without you. Our annual Adventures in Art Gallery will be on Friday,
May 18, 2012 from 6p-8p. Each of our Arlington Superstars
will have one piece of their artwork on display at the gallery. Please come by and see the artwork of our talented Superstars. More details to follow in the PIP and on the website.

MAGIC Extravaganza at Arlington
With reading incentive week coming up around the corner, on Friday, March 9th, we had two magic
assemblies with magician Brock Edwards to encourage students that reading is fun! Brock brought a humorous
program, with amazing tricks based on award winning books and stories. We had participation from many
students as well as teachers! With the help of our magician, our own Ms. Fukunaga and Ms. Lyu performed an
escape trick! And Ms. Hargenrater and Mr. Kono performed a rope trick! It kept the kids laughing and
smiling in amazement!
On Friday, March 30th, Brock Edwards returned to Arlington to perform a family magic show.
This was a community time to spend with family and friends at Arlington. It was great fun with
exciting illusions, like spinning heads, fantastic escapes, and the highlight, Dr. Hath getting cut in half...almost!
Thanks, Dr. Hath, for participating in the show and making it even more memorable!
Thanks to all the families who came out for our Family Magic Night! You made it a success!
COMING UP:
In May, the PTA will be sponsoring an Imagination Machine Assembly, in which improv
actors will act out stories written by our own students!
ATTENTION PARENTS!
Lost and Found
Are you wondering where that fancy jacket went you bought your child for Christmas? How about that CARS lunchbox?
Each and everyday, Arlington students leave these items on the lunch benches and the playground - each and everyday
they are collected, and every Friday they are added to the LOST & FOUND rack. Almost ALL of these items
go unclaimed. You would be amazed at how many jackets etc are collected every week!
Lost items are routinely donated to charity several times a year, so if you don't want to see your hard earned money
go to charity, PLEASE take a few minutes and look at the rack and see if your child's missing jacket is there! the Lost & Found rack is located near the front gate near the cafe!
Thank you!
