Bienvenidos a una nueva edición de la revista LIFE. Esperamos que
disfruten poniéndose al día de nuestras últimas noticias, novedades y
objetivos alcanzados. Finalizamos un curso extraordinario que ha estado
cargado de nuevos proyectos y actividades, siempre de la mano de la
excelencia académica que caracteriza todos los proyectos que llevamos a
cabo en El Centro Inglés. Hemos avanzado muchísimo en nuestro proyecto
“Mirando al futuro”, y pueden estar al tanto de los avances más recientes en

Mientras trabajábamos en la impresión de esta nueva edición de la revista,
recibimos la triste noticia del fallecimiento de D. Manuel Ramírez del Águila,
antiguo Director Técnico de nuestro Centro. Ni que decir tiene que, de un
modo u otro, todo lo que van a leer en estas páginas es el resultado de las
bases que sentó D. Manuel durante sus años como Director de El Centro
Inglés. No nos cabe la menor duda de que D. Manuel estaría enormemente
orgulloso de los enormes avances que, en su ausencia, seguimos llevando
a cabo.
A nivel profesional, profesamos un profundo sentimiento de respeto y de
gratitud por los grandes logros que conseguimos de la mano de D. Manuel
durante sus años de trabajo, sentimiento que, sin duda, nos acompañará
siempre. En lo humano, echaremos muchísimo de menos también la
personalidad de D. Manuel, quien, más allá de sus funciones como Director
del Centro, siempre demostró un profundo compromiso y pasión por la
educación y la humanidad.
Nos despedimos deseándoles que pasen unas magníficas vacaciones de
verano. Damos unas vez más la enhorabuena a todos los alumnos que se
han graduado este año y a los demás, les esperamos el próximo curso con
otro curso cargado de progresos y nuevas metas.

Welcome to another edition of LIFE magazine. We hope you enjoy
catching up with all our latest news, innovations and achievements. It has
been a remarkable year with many exciting new projects and activities as
well as the academic excellence that underpins everything we do here at
The English Centre. We have made good progress with our project “Looking

As this magazine goes to print we have received the sad news of the passing
of our ex – Head Teacher D. Manuel Ramírez del Águila. It is fair to say that
much of what you read in the following pages is a direct or indirect result of
the foundations that D. Manuel laid during his years as Head Teacher with
us at The English Centre. We are sure that he would be proud to read about
the achievements of the team he left behind here.
On a professional level we have had, and always will have, a tremendous
respect and gratitude for what D. Manuel achieved throughout his time with
us. On a personal level we will miss the great relationship we developed with
D. Manuel and especially the person behind the role in school that was so
full of commitment, passion for education and humanity.
Have a wonderful summer, congratulations to the pupils who are graduating
this year and we look forward to seeing you all next year for what will be
another year of development, progress and achievement.

EL NÚMERO UNO
¡ De nuevo Número 1 de Andalucía!
Once again we are Number 1 in Andalusia!
Un año más, el periódico El Mundo ha publicado la 15º edición de su ranking de
los 100 Mejores Colegios de España. El Centro Inglés sigue siendo el número 1
de los centros privados y concertados de Andalucía con 87 puntos, ocupando
el puesto 31 de España. Hemos incrementado la posición del curso anterior
en tres puestos. ¡Felicidades a todo el Equipo que conforma El Centro Inglés!
The newspaper El Mundo has published the 15th edition of their rankings; The
100 Best Schools in Spain. The English Centre still holds top position for the
private and state-assisted private schools in Andalusia and with 87 points we
are currently ranked 31st in the country. We are very happy to say that we have
moved up 3 places from last year. Congratulations to the entire team at the
English Centre!

El pasado sábado 26 de abril, profesores de las tres etapas educativas
acudieron a la primera sesión del curso de formación en Innovación
educativa, curso muy interesante en el que se trataron nuevas metodologías
y el papel del nuevo docente frente al grupo de alumnos.

On Saturday 26th April, teachers belonging to all three educational stages
were present at the first session of the Educational Innovation training
course which focused on new teaching methods and the new role the
teacher in the classroom.

PADRES ProFESIONALES
Durante el mes de mayo, en Educación Infantil, hemos invitado a los padres de los alumnos
a clase y para que compartan con sus hijos y sus compañeros información relacionada con
sus profesiones u oficios. Hemos conocido una gran variedad de profesiones: veterinarios,
artistas, constructores, abogados, etc… Con esta actividad, ofrecemos a las familias la
oportunidad de disfrutar, de primera mano, de la preciosa experiencia de vivir nuestro lema
“hands on hearts” es decir, enseñamos a través de la experiencia. Hemos disfrutado de
sus explicaciones, hemos preguntado e incluso participado en diversas actividades, que
refuerzan nuestro proyecto curricular y tanto alumnos como profesores aprendimos de
manera práctica. No tiene precio lo que hemos disfrutado al ver a los alumnos pretendiendo
actuar en un juicio, subiéndose a una excavadora, o manipulando botellas de oxígeno;
jamás lo olvidaran, y nosotros tampoco. Gracias familias.

INTELIGENCIA
EMOCIONAL
Las líneas de investigación más vanguardistas en el campo educativo tienden al conocimiento y desarrollo de la inteligencia emocional. Entendemos por
inteligencia emocional la capacidad de reconocer los sentimientos propios y ajenos y el desarrollo de la capacidad para gestionarlos positivamente. Los
beneficios que aporta son múltiples: genera clima de seguridad afectiva, gestión positiva del estrés y del conflicto, aumenta la confianza, la seguridad, el
autocontrol y mejora el rendimiento escolar.
Por ello, el pasado mes de abril se impartió en el Colegio un curso de Introducción a la Inteligencia emocional destinado al profesorado. Nuestro profesor y
Jefe del Departamento de CC Sociales, Don José Alberto de la Riva, fue el encargado de dirigir la sesión formativa. Desde hace dos años ha asistido a varios
cursos de formación sobre el tema en Madrid y Sevilla, impartidos por especialistas que ya están poniendo en práctica actuaciones concretas y curriculares
sobre la inteligencia emocional.
El profesorado asistente realizó algunas prácticas y sobre todo recibió una dosis de motivación para aplicar en el aula. Seguiremos profundizando en este
campo formativo para sacar lo mejor de cada componente de la comunidad escolar.

EMotional intelligence
The most recent research within the educational field leans towards the awareness and development of emotional intelligence. This concept can be
understood as; an individual´s ability to recognise both their own feelings and those of others, and includes the development of the ability to process emotions
properly. The benefits of emotional intelligence are many; not only does it encourage the creation of an environment of emotional security, ensure the positive
management of stress and conflict and boost confidence, security and self control and but can also improve performance at school.
An Introductory Course on emotional intelligence was held at The English Centre for all teaching staff in April, led by Mr. José Alberto de la Riva, our teacher
and Head of the Social Sciences Department. He has attended several training courses on the topic in Seville and Madrid which were run by specialists who
are currently in the process of putting a definitive educational action into practice regarding emotional intelligence.
The teachers who attended the sessions took part in several activities and focused on building motivation applicable to the classroom. We plan to extend
training in this area to the benefit of our educational community.

ProFESIONALS PARENTS
During the month of May, we invited the Early Year parents to
come and share information about their professions with their
children and classmates. Our pupils have heard about a wide
range of jobs - we have had vets, artists, builders, lawyers,
etc…. We offer parents the possibility of enjoying firsthand our
hands on hearts motto, learning through doing; we experiment,
feel and see. We have been able to enjoy their explanations;
we asked questions and even took part in different activities.
These activities support our curricular project and both students
and staff learn at a very practical level. It is priceless to watch
children acting out a court case, or climbing on a bulldozer or
manipulating oxygen tanks, they will never forget the experience
and neither will we. Thank you families.

DÍA MUNDIAL
DE LA POESÍA
¡Versos en el aire!
Esta mi voz perdida dulce te seguirá…, es uno de los versos que recitaban los grupos participantes en el concurso organizado por el Departamento de Lengua
castellana y Literatura para celebrar el Día Mundial de la Poesía. Los alumnos de 1º de ESO recitaron poemas y confeccionaron unos maravillosos marca páginas con
el título de alguna obra de nuestra literatura; 4º de ESO eligió poemas para cada profesor a los que les recitaron aquellos que consideraron que más se adecuaban
a ellos, y 1º de bachillerato se unió en equipos con alumnos de 2º y 3º de Primaria para participar en el concurso de versos. A cada uno de ellos se le hizo entrega
de doce mitades de versos. Las otras doce mitades fueron repartidas entre el personal docente y no docente del colegio. Cada grupo se presentó y recitó su “santo
y seña” (unos versos de su poeta), tomando la mitad del verso que consideraba que era correcta. Fue una delicia escuchar a los pequeños de 2º y de 3º de Primaria
recitar versos de Salinas, Cernuda, Alberti, Neruda, Goytisolo, Lorca, y un largo etcétera de poetas que nos dejaron el legado de unos versos que el pasado mes de
marzo resonaron en nuestras aulas y pasillos.
Verses on the air!
“My sweet lost voice shall follow you”….is a line from one of the poems that the participating groups recited in the competition organized by the Spanish Language and
Literature Department in celebration of World Poetry Day. Year 7 pupils recited poems and prepared marvellous bookmarks with the title of a famous Spanish literary
work. Year 10 chose poems for each teacher based on the teacher´s personality and interests. Lower Sixth students got together in teams with pupils from Year 2 &
3 to take part in the poetry competition. The pupils were split into twelve groups, each one of them had to submit twelve lots of half-completed poems. The remaining
twelve halves were divided amongst the School´s teaching and non-teaching staff. After, each group presented their “clue” (a few verses from the poem) they matched
up the two halves.
“It was a delight to hear the little ones from Year 2 & 3 reciting poems written by Salinas, Cernuda, Alberti, Neruda, Goytisolo, Lorca” and many more who left the legacy
of their literary work, which echoed around our classrooms and hallways.

La celebración del Eisteddfod de este año ha girado en torno a una temática muy especial, los
Beatles. Durante todo el segundo trimestre, la Comisión de Ocio y Cultura, en estrecha colaboración
con el resto de Departamentos, se aseguró de que nuestros alumnos se familiarizaran con la vida
y la obra del conjunto musical británico más famoso de todos los tiempos. Realizaron campañas
informativas, asambleas y proyectos para todo el Colegio, y el hilo musical del Centro inundó este
con canciones de los Beatles al final de cada jornada escolar.
El colofón de este gran proyecto llegó con las actuaciones que todos pudimos presenciar durante
el Eisteddfod, recuerdos que permanecerán imborrables en nuestra memoria. Los profesores
formaron un grupo musical y un coro, y versionaron un popurrí de canciones de los Beatles,
siempre bajo la atenta mirada y la supervisión del Departamento de Música. Versionaron canciones
como Yellow Submarine, A Hard Day’s Night y Ob La Di, y durante la celebración del Eisteddfod,
disfrutamos de concursos de fotografías y de expresión artística con los Beatles como temática
principal. La guinda del pastel la pusieron los alumnos con la realización de un gigantesco mural
de los Beatles y una alfombra de sal inspirada también en la obra del cuarteto de Liverpool.
Para envolver todo el Colegio en un halo de Paz, Amor y Felicidad durante la celebración del
Eisteddfod, pedimos que todo el personal y los alumnos acudiesen disfrazados de los Beatles o
con ropa al estilo de los años 60. Desde aquí queremos aprovechar para dar las gracias a todos
aquellos que, con su colaboración, ayudaron a convertir este día tan especial en un proyecto
memorable para todos aquellos que formaron parte de él.

This year’s Eisteddfod had a very special theme, The Beatles. Throughout the second term the
Commission for Leisure and Culture worked with all the departments in the school to ensure that
our pupils knew all about the most famous band ever to come out of Britain. It is important that our
pupils are not only familiar with their work but also the cultural influence this group had in Britain
and around the world. There were information campaigns, assemblies and projects throughout
the school with classic Beatles music on the speakers at the beginning and end of the school day.
The finale of this project was a series of performances at the Eisteddfod that will live long in the
memory. The teachers formed a band and choir to perform a Beatles medley under the expert
guidance of the music department. There were inspiring performances of Yellow Submarine, A
Hard Day’s Night and Ob La Di as well as some remarkable entries to the Beatles themed Art and
Photo competitions. To make the day complete there was a giant Beatles mural and it was the
central theme in our salt carpet.
To ensure that there was an appropriate air of Peace, Love and Happiness in the school at the
Eisteddfod all staff and pupils were invited to come to school dressed as The Beatles or in full
sixties dress. Many thanks to all of those who took part and helped to make this such a special
school day and a memorable project for those involved.

SPORT
ACTIVIDADES, DEPORTES Y EJERCICIO
En El Centro Inglés, el área de Educación Física es un componente clave de nuestro International
Currículum. Incorporamos paulatinamente nuevas actividades y nuevos deportes y ejercicios
para asegurarnos de que nuestros alumnos adquieren las habilidades clave de liderazgo,
trabajo en equipo, participación en el deporte y salud física. Este año, hemos incorporado
en Secundaria una nueva iniciativa que ha tenido mucho éxito: el Día del Deporte. Además,
hemos modificado los contenidos de las Olimpiadas de las Casas, hemos implantado nuevas
competiciones para las casas al final de cada tema y los alumnos han comenzado también a
practicar voleibol, a entrenarse en circuitos de atletismo y algunos incluso han participado en
el Campeonato de atletismo municipal y en la carrera de campo a través.
En la Etapa de Primaria hemos incluido nuevos juegos de coordinación para preparar a
nuestros alumnos para su futuro. Nos encanta ver la motivación que demuestran, sus ganas
de aprender y de involucrarse en la Educación Física, y tratamos de fomentar siempre la
competitividad más sana, el respeto y el espíritu de superación personal, mientras adquieren
un profundo conocimiento de las actividades deportivas y disfrutan del deporte y de la actividad
física.
ACTIVITIES, SPORTS AND EXERCISE
At the English Centre physical education is a key component of the International Curriculum.
That is why we ensure that our programme is continually improving and innovating. We introduce
new activities, sports, disciplines and exercises to ensure that our pupils are learning the key
aspects of leadership, teamwork, good health and participation. This year we have successfully
introduced a Sports Day in Secondary, modified the contents of the House Olympics, created
house competitions at the end of every unit, introduced volleyball, athletics, circuit training
and taken part in the municipal athletics and cross country championship. In the early primary
years we have introduced co-ordination games to better prepare the younger children for the
future. We are delighted with our pupils motivation to learn and approach to physical education
and always ensure that healthy competition, respect and personal achievement is combined
with a deep understanding and enjoyment of sport and physical activities.

MOODLE
Este año, la plataforma de docencia online de nuestro centro, ECIONLINE,ha
experimentado un auténtico despegue. Estos últimos doce meses, hemos
subido a la plataforma una enorme cantidad de contenidos y el incremento en
su uso ha sido más que satisfactorio.
No obstante, como profesores, lo que nos parece más llamativo de este
proceso es ver cómo la plataforma ha logrado, de diversas formas, fomentar
la participación, el compromiso y el interés por el aprendizaje por parte de
los alumnos. Nos hace muy felices ver cómo los alumnos se vuelcan con el
Foro de Filosofía de Don Daniel, cómo se usa la plataforma para ayudar a
los alumnos que presentan dificultades en su aprendizaje, el interés que han
despertado los concursos de ortografía en inglés o la entrega de trabajos y
tareas a través de la plataforma.
En resumen, podemos decir que este año hemos realizado un gran avance en
el aprendizaje online y que tenemos una plataforma de enseñanza virtual de
la que podemos estar orgullosos. ¡Prometemos que el próximo curso vendrá
cargado de más contenidos online fantásticos para nuestra plataforma!
ECIONLINE the schools very own learning platform has really taken off this
year. During the past 12 months an astounding amount of content has been
added and the increase in usage has been phenomenal.
Nevertheless I think that the most striking thing as a teacher, is seeing the
new ways in which the platform has been used to encourage participation,
engagement and learning. It really makes me happy and fulfilled when I see
the students becoming so involved with Don Daniels’ philosophy forums, or
the platform being used to address students’ learning difficulties, or children
getting excited about spelling competitions and homework.
Finally, this year we have taken a big step forward in online learning and have
a virtual learning platform that we can be proud of. I’m sure like me you can’t
wait to see what fantastic new online content will be coming next year!!
WIZZY WORDS
CONCURSO DE ORTOGRAFÍA EN INGLÉS
Wizzy Words (el concurso de ortografía en inglés para los grupos de Primaria) se encuentra en su segunda
edición. Los profesores han propuesto todas las palabras del concurso, elegidas entre el vocabulario que se
ha estudiado en clase. La edición de este año ha presentado también un nuevo elemento: todas las palabras
deletreadas, tanto escritas como en audio, están disponibles en ECI ONLINE a través de la plataforma moodle.
Lo realmente apasionante de este nuevo concurso es que nos aporta una pequeña idea de cómo será el
aprendizaje en el futuro. Wizzy Words se ha constituido ya como una interesante experiencia de aprendizaje
personalizado, en la que los alumnos pueden controlar este y avanzan a su propio ritmo. Todas las actividades
están divididas en varios niveles, y únicamente pueden pasar al siguiente nivel cuando completan el anterior.
Cada vez que completan un nivel, los alumnos reciben como premio medallas de estrellas Wizzy y puntos para
sus casas.
Con el objetivo de hacer de la ortografía en inglés algo atractivo para los alumnos, hemos creado una serie
de actividades multimedia online a las que todos pueden acceder cuando quieran y desde donde quieran. Los
datos sobre la participación son muy llamativos: en los 23 días que las actividades estuvieron disponibles, más
de 145 alumnos de 10 clases diferentes completaron 4.000 actividades, y los alumnos que obtuvieron las
puntuaciones más altas pudieron participar en la final del concurso en vivo, delante de todos sus compañeros.
Los resultados de esta final fueron realmente impresionantes.

Wizzy Words (the spelling competition that takes place in Primary) is now into its second edition. All the words
are suggested by the teachers and is vocabulary used in class. This year sees the additional feature of having
all the spellings, both written and voice, available in ECI ONLINE via moodle.
What is really exciting about this innovation is that it gives us a small insight into the future of learning. Wizzy
Words has been set up as an engaging personalised learning experience .i.e. pupils control their own learning
and advance at their own pace. All the activities are levelled and children can only progress when they have
mastered a level. On completion of a level pupils are rewarded with Wizzy star badges and house ticks.
We’ve tried to make spelling engaging by developing multimedia activities online which students can access
when and where they want. The participation figures were very impressive. In 23 days of online spelling there
where 4,000 activities completed by 145 pupils from 10 different classes. The strongest participants then went
into the live final where they competed in front of the peers and the final results were most impressive.

etapas educativas.

At the English Centre, we teach maths throughout the Curriculum.
Ya desde Infantil acercamos a nuestros alumnos a este maravilloso mundo,
enseñándoles no sólo cómo se escriben los números sino algo más importante,
su concepto y el de los restantes contenidos de esta etapa. Les hacemos
conscientes, mediante una gran variedad de actividades, que las Matemáticas
están muy presentes en nuestras vidas.
From our pupils´ very first day in Early Years, we introduce them to this marvelous
world of Maths, teaching them not only how to write numbers, but something
a lot more important; the concept of mathematics, including that of the other
syllabus contents pertinent to this stage. We try to make them aware, through a
great variety of fun activities, that Maths and numbers play an important role in
our everyday lives.
Ese es el espíritu que se sigue fomentando en la etapa de Primaria. Se trabaja de
manera que no les resulten aburrida y que conozcan cómo pueden conexionarlas
con la realidad. Para ello se realizan actividades como la simulación de un
“Supermercado” para aprender las unidades monetarias, el tan exitoso “Baúl
de los problemas” en el que son los propios alumnos los que crean estos, o la
actividad “Tras la pista”, como aplicación de la unidad de longitud, por mencionar
algunas.
Y para mejorar aún más las cualidades de nuestro alumnado, nos hemos
embarcado desde hace unos cursos en el proyecto de UCMAS, que ya empieza
a dar sus frutos.
This is the spirit we strive to develop and encourage in the Primary school
stage. At this point in the education of our pupils, we teach Maths using fun and
exciting methods related to reality. Examples of these are; the “Supermarket”
activity, teaching pupils the units of currency; the successful “Treasure Chest of
Problems”, in which the problems are created by the children themselves and not
forgetting the “Follow the footsteps” activity, which aids our pupils in using and
applying units of length, amongst others.
In addition, to further develop our pupils´ mathematical skills, a few academic

Once our pupils reach Secondary education, working along the same lines, we
prepare them to effectively adapt to the range of social challenges they face, and
then in Sixth Form they are taught to develop their skills in order to acquire the
independence necessary to embark upon their adult lives.

de Selectividad curso tras curso o el poder contar entre nuestros alumnos con el
campeón Olímpico de Matemáticas de Andalucía.
The high grades our Sixth Form pupils obtain in their University Entrance Exams
year after year, and the fact that the Mathematical Olympic champion of Andalusia

años) del Certamen Literario San Luis de relato
corto, convocado por el colegio San Luis Gonzaga de

al certamen un maravilloso relato titulado Cuando los
boleros tenían sentido que la ha hecho merecedora

He spent a whole weekend at the Conference held
in Madrid, where more than 200 Spanish schools
took part, and got through to the Nationals. He

El pasado 17 de enero, varios alumnos de Bachillerato, entre ellos Agustín
Pérez Arjona, participaron en la fase local de la L Olimpiada Matemática
Española, concurso anual de resolución de problemas de matemáticas de
ámbito nacional.
Nuestro alumno Agustín Pérez Arjona, al quedar brillantemente clasificado
en la Fase Local, el primero de Cádiz, fue seleccionado para representar
a Andalucía en la fase final nacional, que se celebró en Requena (Valencia)
entre el 27 y 30 de marzo donde obtuvo una medalla de plata, clasificándose
así como el 1º de Andalucía. Esto le permitió presentarse a la decimoséptima
edición de la Olimpiada Mediterránea. ¡Enhorabuena, Agustín!

On 17th January, several of our Sixth Form pupils, including Agustín Pérez
Arjona, took part in the local round of the 50th Spanish Maths Olympics. This
national competition is held on a yearly basis and focuses on the solving of
mathematical problems.
Our pupil Agustín Pérez Arjona came first in the Local Round for the province
of Cadiz, and was selected to represent Andalusia in the Final National Rounds
held in Requena (Valencia) between the 27th and 30th March 2014. Agustín
was awarded the silver medal in addition to taking first place in Andalusia,
which meant he could take part in the 17th edition of the Mediterranean
Olympics. Congratulations!

JUEGOS DEPORTIVOS
Un año más, por estas fechas, finalizan los Juegos Deportivos Municipales en los que nuestros alumnos y monitores han puesto toda la ilusión y energía.
Por ello, el Club Deportivo El Centro Inglés quiere felicitarlos y, también, agradecer el esfuerzo que hacen las familias cada año por hacer posible que sus
hijos puedan realizar un deporte y participar en las diversas jornadas de fines de semana. Para nosotros es un orgullo contar con el numeroso número de
alumnos dispuestos a participar de todas las actividades deportivas que ofrecemos en el Centro.
Nuestros objetivos van más allá de la evolución física, táctica o técnica. Usamos este maravilloso medio para complementar su desarrollo personal, incidiendo
en hábitos saludables, buen comportamiento, autosuperación, constancia, etc.
Una gran aliada para trabajar estos y otros valores son los Juegos Deportivos Municipales. Además, durante el curso celebramos competiciones internas,
participamos y organizamos torneos, encuentros, exhibiciones o campeonatos. Estas actividades siempre ayudan a motivar al alumnado y nos proporcionar
unas exigencias que llevan implícitas una serie de responsabilidades que ayudan al buen desarrollo educativo de los deportistas: puntualidad, compromiso,
respeto, compañerismo…
Gracias a los Juegos Deportivos Municipales, desde enero hasta mayo celebramos encuentros semanales con otros centros o clubes de la localidad. Este
año han participado 8 equipos de Fútbol sala y 3 de baloncesto, obteniendo tres trofeos y medallas. Participan alumnos desde 1º de Primaria hasta 2º de
Bachillerato.
La valoración que realizamos de la participación de nuestros equipos es muy positiva, en los que hemos visto una notable mejoría con respecto al inicio de
curso. El objetivo del próximo curso es poder contar con el número mínimo exigido de alumnos para participar en las modalidades de ajedrez y tenis mesa,
que dieron muchas alegrías en años anteriores, además de dar un salto de exigencia y participar con algún equipo en la Competición de la Federación
Gaditana de Baloncesto.
Os deseamos unas felices y merecidas vacaciones y aprovechar el buen tiempo de verano para practicar deporte.
TOWN SPORTS
Once again it is that time of year when our Town Sports must come to an end. The English
Centre Sports Club would like to take this opportunity to thank our pupils and monitors for the
motivation and energy they bring to these games, and to also thank their families for the effort
they put in to ensure that their children can practice their favourite sports and participate in
a wide range of activities at the weekend. We are very proud to have so many pupils who are
ready and willing to take part in all the sporting activities available at the School.
Our principal goals go beyond fitness and technique based training. We make use of this
exceptional teaching medium to develop our pupils´ skills on a personal level, ensuring
they adopt healthy habits and attributes such as good behaviour self-improvement and
perseverance.
In order to work on these and many other values, we depend on the own Sportsa great
deal. Throughout the school year we hold many competitions at School; we organize and
participate in tournaments, sports events, exhibitions and championships. These activities
aim to motivate our pupils and contain many elements: punctuality, commitment, respect,
teamwork…contributing to the educational development of the sports players involved.
Thanks to the Municipal Sports Games, from January right through until May we are able to
hold weekly matches with other Schools and Sports Centres in our town. This year, pupils from
Year 1 to Upper Sixth have played for our 8 indoor football teams and 3 basketball teams,
winning a total of three trophies and medals. We regard the participation of our teams very
highly, especially for those teams that have significantly improved with respect to the start of
the school year. Next school year, our main aim is to have enough participants to take part in
the chess and table tennis events, something that we have thoroughly enjoyed in past years.
also, we would like to aim even higher and take a team to the Cadiz Basketball Association
Competitions.
We hope you really enjoy these much deserved holidays and make the most of the Summer
to play as much sport as possible.

DE MANTAS
Este curso se ha realizado por primera vez la Campaña de recogida de mantas
para la ONG portuense “Nueva Bahía” con un balance final de 173 unidades.
Desde la comisión consideramos que ha sido un éxito a nivel material y a nivel
de concienciación en valores como la generosidad y la solidaridad. Muchos
alumnos se implicaron tanto personalmente como por cursos, dando un
ejemplo de participación, de ánimo y colaboración con las campañas solidarias.
Vivimos tiempos difíciles, pero precisamente por ello son tiempos propicios para
sacar lo mejor que llevamos dentro y colaborar con los más necesitados de
nuestra sociedad. Muchas personas no pasaron frío gracias a la aportación
solidaria de nuestros alumnos.

The campaign for the Charity based in El Puerto de Santa María, “Nueva Bahía”
which involved the collection of blankets, was held for the first time this year and
has come to an end with a grand total of 173 blankets.
We consider the campaign to have been a great success in terms of the number
of items we collected, but equally in terms of the awareness of important
values such as solidarity. Pupils from different year groups got involved, either
individually or as a class, demonstrating a fine example of collaboration and also
a great enthusiasm for working on charity campaigns.
We are living in difficult times, however it is precisely for this reason that there
has never been a better time to make the most of what we have in order to
help those who are most in need in our society. Thanks to the generosity of our
pupils, many individuals won´t get cold.

Es para nosotros ilusionante y muy emotivo poder recibir cada año a nuestros ex alumnos en el Colegio y poder mantener una convivencia con ellos. Y maravilloso
observar cómo aún mantienen contacto entre ellos, los recuerdos que conservan de su etapa aquí, la motivación por participar, el esfuerzo que realizan para venir
desde Granada, Sevilla, Madrid…, y, sobre todo, los éxitos académicos y profesionales que están cosechando una vez salen de “su “ Colegio. No podemos olvidar
tampoco a las madres que participan: pundonor, esfuerzo y ganas de colaborar con el Colegio.

One of our most important traditions at the Eisteddfod are our basketball matches with expupils. For us it is a very special and emotive occasion to welcome our old pupils
back to school every year and spend some time catching up. It is great to see how they have stayed in touch and to hear the memories of their time with us. Some of
them come make a big effort to come and play in the match even coming from Granada, Seville or Madrid. We are especially proud to hear about their achievements that
is the result of the education they received at “their” school. We should also mention the mothers who come and play too with their desire to take part and good humour.

“I left the English Centre 4 years ago and it has been an absolute pleasure to come back to what was my home for many years. When the School got in touch with me
about the possibility of playing in a Basketball match, I was so excited about seeing my old classmates and teachers, that I didn’t think twice about it. Throughout the
game we laughed and joked and afterwards we had a fantastic time reminiscing. The match was an unforgettable experience and I really hope we get the chance to do

ACAMPADAS
Las Acampadas son las actividades que esperan los alumnos del Tercer ciclo de Primaria con más ilusión. Desde que en 2º de Primaria tienen un primer
contacto con la Granja escuela, están deseando pasar un par de días disfrutando de la naturaleza y realizando actividades, ya sea en la Hacienda Barriche o
en El Picacho. Y qué mejor que las palabras de dos alumnos de 6º para relatarnos sus experiencias:
Durante el pasado mes de abril, los alumnos de 6º de EPO hemos visitado las instalaciones de El Picacho, en el Parque Natural de Los Alcornocales. Fueron
dos días y una noche inolvidables.
Las habitaciones no eran muy grandes, pero aun así, espaciosas y disponían de unas literas de lo más interesante.
Las actividades que realizamos fueron muy diferentes y variadas. Desde el tiro con arco y cerbatana, hasta senderismo, rapel, hockey… Como novedad,
nos pareció de lo más divertido aprender a seguir el rastro de los animales y poder participar en el taller de los esqueletos, formado por muchos de distintos
animales.
Por la noche, fuimos al corazón del bosque para contarnos terribles historias de miedo, con las que más de uno se asustó bastante…
Damos las gracias a nuestros profesores y a los monitores, pues nos atendieron muy bien en todo momento y, además, nos ayudaron para que no olvidemos
nunca esta estancia en El Picacho.
CAMPS
Our Year 5 & 6 pupils look forward to the Camping Trip to la Hacienda Barriche or El Picacho from Year 2 when they first visited the Farm School. They can’t
wait to spend two days in the country doing all sorts of activities. The pupils themselves have perhaps best expressed how much they enjoyed it.
This April, our Year 6 primary pupils had the opportunity to visit El Picacho in the Los Alcornocales Natural Park. They were two days and a night that we will
never forget. The rooms were not very big, but light and spacious, and the bunk beds quite unusual…
We did a lot of different activities, from archery and blowguns, to hiking, abseiling and hockey.
But it was a new activity we all enjoyed the most - learning to track animals. We also had a skeleton workshop with all sorts of animal bones that we found
fascinating. In the evening, we all headed into the heart of the woods to share our scariest ghost stories. More than one of us was got a real fright.
We would like to thank our teachers and monitors for looking after us so well and for making our trip to El Picacho unforgettable.

PIC-NIC
Los alumnos del grupo de teatro de 1º y 2º de Bachillerato demostraron su gran
maestría sobre las tablas el pasado 30 de abril, día en el que representaron
la obra Pic Nic de Fernando Arrabal. Pic Nic es una pieza teatral breve que
denuncia lo absurdo de la guerra y lleva a los espectadores a situaciones
ridículas y trágicas a la misma vez. El grupo del taller de Teatro de El Centro
Inglés ha estado ensayando y trabajando durante todo el curso para estrenar
esta obra ante sus compañeros. ¡Enhorabuena a todos los integrantes y en
especial a sus profesoras Srta. Elsa y Srta. Sonia!

On 30th April our Sixth Form Theatre Group demonstrated considerable talent
on stage performing the work Pic-Nic by Fernando Arrabal. Pic-Nic is a short
play which condemns the absurd nature of war by presenting the audience with
situations that are ridiculous and tragic at the same time. The English Centre
Theatre Workshop has been rehearsing and working hard throughout the school
year to perform for their classmates. Congratulations to all those who took part,
and especially to the teachers Elsa and Sonia!
RUTAS
CULTURALES
Los alumnos de 2º, 3º, y 4º de ESO han disfrutado este curso de las Rutas
Culturales organizadas por los Departamentos pedagógicos. El objetivo de estas
Rutas culturales es acercar a los alumnos a nuestra riqueza artística, cultural
y científica.
Los alumnos de 2º de ESO realizaron la Ruta Cultural de Granada, con una visita
a la Alhambra, una ruta literaria de García Lorca y la visita al Parque de las
Ciencias. Los grupos de 3º de ESO partieron hacia la provincia de Huelva para
visitar la casa Museo de Juan Ramón Jiménez, en Moguer, y realizar una ruta
literaria del escritor por su pueblo natal en el Año de Platero. Posteriormente, se
acercaron hasta La Rábida, en Palos de la Frontera, y la Gruta de las Maravillas
en Aracena. En el aniversario de El Greco, los alumnos de 4º de ESO se
dirigieron a Toledo para realizar actividades y visitas relacionadas con el pintor,
y a Madrid donde visitaron el Museo de la Biblioteca Nacional, el Museo Reina
Sofía y el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales.
Cultural Routes
Our Secondary pupils, from Years 8-10, had the chance to visit different areas
of Spain as part of an inter-departmental initiative. The objective of these
activities is to bring pupils closer to the cultural, artistic and scientific wealth
our country has to offer.
Year 8 pupils took a cultural tour of Granada, where they visited the Alhambra,
were taken on a literary tour - in the footsteps of García Lorca and then visited
the Science Park. Our Year 9s travelled to the nearby province of Huelva and
visited the House of Juan Ramón Jiménez in Moguer and were also taken on
a literary tour of the writer´s home town, 100 years after his work “Platero y
yo” was written. Afterwards, the children stopped off at La Rábida Monastery,
in Palos de la Frontera and the “Gruta de las Maravillas” in Aracena. For the
anniversary of El Greco, our Year 10 pupils visited Toledo where they took part
in activities and trips focused on the artist, and then on to Madrid where they
visited the National Library Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum and the National
Museum of Natural Sciences.

Notificación de administración de medicamentos al Departamento Médico.

Notificación de cambios de autobús/comedor (tanto permanentes, como puntuales y periódicos).
Control Parental
Ausencias: indicando si es justificada o no.
Retrasos: justificados o no.
Faltas de uniformidad: se indica fecha y motivo que conlleva la falta de uniformidad.
Conductas contrarias: todas las observaciones contrarias al sistema y al reglamento de
organización y funcionamiento del Centro (ROF) que no estén recogidas en otros tipos de
observaciones.

Consulta de los datos personales de la unidad familiar y de todos los alumnos asociados a ella.
Consulta del horario escolar por clases.
Consulta de las calificaciones académicas de sus hijos.
Consulta de las observaciones realizadas por el personal docente y de administración que
afecte a algún miembro de la unidad familiar.
Consulta del histórico de cambios de comedor y autobús de todo el curso escolar.
Consulta del histórico de tutorías e informes derivados de dichas tutorías por parte del tutor.
